    2. Jackie Wilson Goddard
    3. Yes, that is a problem. It needs to be reported to both the HelpDesk and the new "Send Feedback" feature, which on some boards takes you to a form to fill out, but on others it opens up a new message in your default e-mail..... Anyway here's the address: boardfeedback@rootsweb.com Please, EVERYONE use the above address to let them know what you think. Jackie At 09:59 AM 12/7/2006, you wrote: >HELP! What is happening when you try? Surnames will only be included with a message if the poster included surnames in his post. << And how do I go about getting the messages to show in Date Expanded mode. I think it's the only way to manage/edit messages.....especially when posters are replying to posts that are a few months or years old.>> --- There is NO date expanded display mode on the boards now -- you can expand a thread by clicking the FLAT view link. What has changed is that with the previous boards a new post to an old thread kept the thread in its original location on the board instead of moving it up to the top of the board again. The new boards have the feature that an old thread with a new post added to it moves the thread (not just the reply) up to the top of the board -- so you can find the new posts that way. <<To make matters worse......I'm on AOL and they are delaying ALL my rootsweb email 6 to 8 hours so I'm not getting replies to the problems/questions that are raised.>> I'm not sure that it is AOL--it seems that lists9 which has had some "issues" of late is delaying sending out the posts. This time the culprit may not be AOL. <g> Joan

These new changes sure don't mix well with pain medicine....<g> so I am going to have to work slowly through these. But... here are a couple of concerns.... 1. Not being able to change from thread to date order. It was so handy to go to date order with the newest being first and check/edit recent postings. 2. No ability to go to next message (or have I missed something there). Again, with the messages in date order I could open the first one - check it - edit if necessary - and then click and go to the next one. Much more efficient then this new set up where I have to click back several times to get back to the original list of messages. 3. No change in color when a message has been read. 4. Unable to see posters history. I used this a lot as a user rather than an admin. I could check and see if they were posting in the same areas of the country where my interest was. 5. Clicking on the poster's name now takes you to that profile form. All the ones I have checked so far are blank and I wonder if they won't stay that way. Sorry folks but I really don't think my "age group", "education", "employment status", "occupation", or "religion" are necessary for me to participate in a genealogy community and quite frankly aren't anyone else's business. 3. After MANY attempts last night to login to my one and only board I was so frustrated that, yes, I was ready to give this all up. Then, just because I wanted to look at the new boards I logged in through my public link (that I had saved when I could no longer get search results through the admin board). Accidentally, at the bottom of the page, I saw a link to ADMIN CENTER. Hoping to find the solution to my problem I clicked on that link. Surprisingly, it took me to my admin board - with no login. Try it and see if it works for you, Kathie. This appears to me to be one more major step backwards with our boards. I've posted over 3000 complete obits to the Phillips County, CO board and I'm now in the process of creating new files for each obit and linking to them from the cemeteries on the Phillips County Museum site. Looks to me like they are going to "improve" the boards out of usefulness! 3. Oh, my goodness, after complaining there was no way to see what I had not read, I read your message about the orange dot! That is better than nothing - thanks! Oh, unfortunately, those dots are only visible once you open the first message of a thread. You can't see at a glance like you used to be able to do with the colors of the Unread messages :-( Sigh~ I'm sorry, Jennifer I don't have any answers for you. I didn't understand your first question about the author name - are you saying information on the author you can see on the message itself is not what was listed for that same message on My Notifications? I just found another disturbing thing. Whenever I was about to move a message, I would always right-click on the author of a message to see if she/he had already posted the same message to the board to which I was planning to move the message. If so, then I would see if that message could go to another list - a second surname mentioned, locality, etc. Checking the author's name no longer brings up all the posts made by that person. Will that be a feature that is returning? 3. Yep, you have to switch back to "Thread view" to be able to click on any reply - even if you manipulate the URL you won't get taken to the message you want, only the FLAT view of the thread. 1. Re: [BAd] So-called improvements
    2. marilynandmonty
    3. Marilyn, Bah Humbug is right! I don't think it's just AOL, Marilyn. I wrote the message below yesterday evening at 9 p.m. - it was received here at 4 a.m this morning :-( Since I wrote this message, I was able to get in to admin mode (although it took quite some time and when I didn't see a link at the bottom of the page, I found my way to my boards by clicking on the "Back" link on the upper left corner). While there I didn't really do anything except try to find where I stopped reviewing (which I couldn't), what it looked like in "flat view" (which I stumbled on by mistake) and then shake my head at all the changes that don't seem to be advantageous. Just a few minute ago, I was able to access the boards from the old Login page. The advantages seem few, in my opinion. After each board name that we admin it has the number of objections in parentheses (so far mine all say zero). That is the way it was when I first became an admin, about 4 or 5 years ago. We no longer have to open a board just to see at a glance if we have any objections. I like that, along with all of my information (MyAccounts) on one page. I wonder if I change my Login to some of the MyFamily pages if that will all show up as well on MyAccounts page. I will swear that once last night when I did click on my login that it took me to the MyFamily sites I belong to, though I can't get that to happen again today. Perhaps as we use the new boards, more advantages will become evident?? I know we can get used to the "look" but one of my biggest concerns is that I can no longer see which messages I have looked at/cleaned. And that is as bad as not being able to view them in expanded mode without opening each and every one. In expanded mode I could tell if there were duplicates, if surnames were included, if it was commercial, spam, etc. - to see any obvious problems that needed immediate attention. I can't even see the complete subject line the way it is set up! And if I were a user, I know I would like it even less!! As a user I like to browse the surname boards, not search them. Now I would have to open every message to see the complete title. Bah. I do know one thing. If I can't tell by the color which messages I have reviewed for clean-up and/or we are not given a tool to mark them (I can "guess" about where I stopped cleaning on my nearly 18,000-message board), and if there is no way to view them in Expanded Mode so I can see at a glance which ones have been completed and - the big IF - I continue my volunteer administration, I will spend no extra time cleaning up the boards that still need it. I will continue keeping up with the news ones, but I still have a number of boards that I need to go from about a year ago back to their inception and clean up. I can't even get the list of boards to be in alphabetical order!! I was trying to find the TAYLOR board and it took awhile. I would hate to see what that list looked like if I still had 143 boards instead of the current 43 (soon to be 3, I think!!) Oh, and another other thing! - did you notice it no longer shows Rootsweb at the top of the screens - even though my original Login was on the Rootsweb side and that is how I can still get in (thought I have made a new Favorites so I'm taken right to the boards without clicking on my User ID), I am looking at an Ancestry screen and not Rootsweb. It has redirected me. Soon there will be no vestiges of Rootsweb left. How sad. So sorry I wrote a book. I could write more, but I won't! I could click on that and get to the list of my boards to administer to them... Now I have to go throught some kind of hoops... and rings like a clown... Why did accessing the admin pages change... So far, I see only the classification on posts so I think, "hm, no surnames, gotta fix it." But I click edit and it does have the surnames ALREADY. Think I'm going to go away & not try to do boards for a week until this mess gets straightened out. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.rw.admin.badmin/5005.2.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The only thing I'm seeing at the bottom of every page is this: Return to Message Boards | Request New Board | Community Guidelines | Board Help | Board FAQ | Send Feedback and this is when I'm logged in as Admin. Does it only show up if one is NOT logged in as Admin, but using a generic login?

Second (lesser) problem - I still have to find and click on my Admin bookmark for the Board, as signing on only gets me into the general RootsWeb Contents page. Am I doing something wrong ? Is there an easier way? Peter- Have you tried going to this link? http://boards.rootsweb.com/Default.aspx?view=admin That will take you directly to the admin center. Joan
