Karima Weird--it might be some anomaly like someone using brackets or quotes that are causing them not to show up. Try this (can't promise it will work but try it) -- remove everything from the surname box and then type in the two surnames separated by the comma and space and see if that fixes it. If not try removing everything (adding a single space to make the change take) and THEN go back and add the surnames after you have removed everything from the box. Joan

If I look at My Account in both Rootsweb and Ancestry, my e-mail is the correct lkleback@hotmail.com<mailto:lkleback@hotmail.com>. But when I look at the Board Information listing on the boards I admin, it still shows as kleback@bellsouth.net<mailto:kleback@bellsouth.net>. I no longer have access to that account. What haven't I changed? Go to the RootsWeb interface of the boards and click on My Profile. Update your email address and post email there. If you have a standard Board Info page that should update the address. If you did a customized info page you will need to click Edit Board Info on the tools for your admin center page for the board. Note the word "similar" and "create a new subject line and modify the body to fit each board" which is the same thing we've been saying all along--modify the post to best fit each board. The question may be moot though as under the system as it now exists I can't find any way of searching for multiple posts--unless you search for common wording in a post. I don't see a way to identify posts by a single poster in a search--try it and see if you can do it. Joan

    1. [BAd] Message Board Changes
    2. Margaret L. Sopp
    3. I think I need help. I'm not having any problems on the admin side. . .but I'm totally confused when it comes to using the revised Boards. I've been a Board & List user & admin since the beginning, so I'm no newbie. . .but I hope I am being stupid and you all will be able to help me. . .because, at this point, I notice some things that seem odd or peculiar to me. Here are some examples (#3 being the most troubling to me): (1) When I go to a Board, the subjects are curtailed. . .so you can't read all the words in the subject. Without clicking on the post, how cannot see the full subject? Or does this depend upon one's browser? (2) How do I sort (oldest/newest) in threaded view? I can only find that setting for the flat view. On the Boards I checked, in the threaded view the dates are a hodgepodge. . .and this seems to be exacerbated when the subject of the thread is altered. By that I mean the wording of the subject changed within the thread. . . perhaps to better reflect the way the thread was drifting. . .ok, they probably should have started a new thread, but they apparently didn't, and it's too late now. Or again, could this be a browser thing? (3) The following is difficult to describe. Feel free to query me if what I'm writing is not clear. When I go to a Board, the "newest" post in a thread appears to be visible. Well, not really. I've discovered that if someone has changed the wording of the subject within a thread it totally screws everything up. Thus, there may be a "newer" (more recent, more current) post in the thread but if the subject wording changed from the original, then it's hidden (buried) within the original thread. Thus, if perhaps you had read through a thread a month or two ago and then you visit the Board again. .. since the date of the "newest" post in the thread hasn't changed, you would assume that no one had posted a follow-up. It's not going to occur to folks to go back and (a) expand the thread again and search for a possible "hidden update" or (b) change to the flat view and click on "newest to oldest." In general, apparently new posts within an old thread will be missed. In one example, if you visit the Board, it appears that the newest post in a thread was made in Oct 2001. It states "Last post - 5 Oct 2001." But that's not true. There are follow-up posts in the thread from 2002 & 2003. However, along the line, the subject name in the thread was altered. Today I posted a follow-up to one of the posts in the thread with an altered subject. Theoretically, I'd assume that my brand-new follow-up would be visible when you go to the Board. . .since it's the newest post in the thread (indeed the newest post at the Board). Nope! No one would have a clue it's there. It's buried within the thread. It still states: "Last post - 5 Oct 2001." The only way you can find this brand-new reply is to click on the false "newest" (Oct 2001) with the original subject and do what I've described above as (a) or (b). Then you'll see the posts from 2002 and 2003, and also mine posted there in December 2006. This seems goofy. Or I'm goofy. (4) Occasionally when I read someone's post to a Board, I might decide to send them an e-mail. It was always easy to click on their name, view their e-mail address, and send them a quick e-mail. With the Board changes, it appears that if the poster does not have a "profile" I can see their e-mail address, but if they have a "profile," then I can't figure a way to see their e-mail address. How do I do that? Margaret in IL

I did not know that as a List Admin can not do that. I am also not in favour of the new deal where you can not mention a living persons name without their permission. Seems like that defeats the whole purpose of trying to find genealogy relatives. If that is going to be the way it is why would I want to be associated with rootsweb or ancestory? 3. I have a funny feeling of de-ja-vue - is this the Lists update muddle through all over again? Under the old board system I had a direct link (bookmark/favourite) to an Admin sign-on page, where all I had to do was click a link and I was into my Board in admin mode. Three clicks in all. Now all that link does is throw me direct to the board in User mode. So I clicked on 'Sign In' (top right), bookmarked that page, signed in (fortunately I'd written down my password as it's a long time since I've had to use it !!), ticked 'remember me'; and finally 'Sign In' took me back to the Board page in Admin mode. A quick familiarisation with the new look board, not sure I like all of it - but that's another issue - time will tell. FWIW I believe the text about the board being gatewayed should be at the top, not tucked away down the bottom. OK, so I logged out to see if I could get back in directly via the Sign-In page. First (main) problem - the 'signin' page hasn't remembered me - I haven't changed any setting, so if the new logon page uses Cookies like the old, then that can't be the problem, can it ? Second (lesser) problem - I still have to find and click on my Admin bookmark for the Board, as signing on only gets me into the general RootsWeb Contents page. Am I doing something wrong ? Is there an easier way? 3. I'm sure I will be asked this from the board users. I checked out my boards, when I came upon one of my board posts, I tried clicking the "poster" information (which was myself), it came up that I had chosen the option to remain anonymous (which I had not chosen) and that the connection service is a premium service from Ancestry, which requires basic membership with a minimal subscription fee. Clicking the "Go to Ancestry Profile" button below will take you to genebug2's profile on Ancestry where you can click the "Contact this person" link to send a private, anonymous message through the connection service. When I tried to see if I could reach the information by doing as suggested, there was NO contact info. Is there a secret way to contact other posters to the message boards? Donna

Why, when I look at one of my boards, the first message listed is dated 2 Sep 2006 (it has 3 in the thread, so I am presuming that if I open the message, it will show a Dec, 6 or 7 message at the end of the thread?), the second listed is 29 Mar 2000 (and it has NO other messages in that thread) and subsequent ones are listed latest first - 6 Dec 2006, 5 Dec 2006, 4 Dec 2006, etc. ?? Wow - I just went back to that board to open that first message dated 2 Sep 2006 to see what came up so I could describe it and those two old messages (2 Sep 2006 and 29 Mar 2000) are GONE. They are no longer listed on the board first!! What kind of crazy things are going on - why were they listed on the first screen earlier? All I did was go to the Next screen to see how they were listed and then back to the first screen. Bizarre~ Marilyn G.
