Now the boards are "live", I'm guessing the admonishment of talking about the beta testing is moot..... Of my fellow admins who were beta testers, I'd like to hear (privately if you'd prefer): What was your overall opinion? Do you remember anything about the list of adminned boards being at the top of your screen? Do you like that feature. Have you found anything on the new boards you like or consider an improvement? Ian, the board admin does have thre options, do nothing, delete, or move the message to the board where it should have been posted to start with. Surnames can be a problem because if there is not a list for them, they cannot be moved. Yes, my links are gone. Yes, I have to log in every time. Checking the "Remember me" box does not work. I have more than 1 userid so I do not want to be auto logged on - but SOMETIMES (not always) when I use the "back" button, I get switched from my main id to another one. Wow! Has Ancestry destroyed the purpose of the message boards for the genealogy community? To freely share data and to make contacts to obtain more detailed data of common interest. Or this for pay service just to be able to get e-mail addresses for those people who have chosen to be anonymous? Why would any genealogist want to be annonymous and not be contacted by anyone if they have posted a query? Is this an oxymoron or am I missing something? -----Original Message----- From: boards-admins-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:boards-admins-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, December 07, 2006 5:21 PM To: BOARDS-ADMINS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BAd] Changing account information for boards? I'm sure I will be asked this from the board users. I checked out my boards, when I came upon one of my board posts, I tried clicking the "poster" information (which was myself), it came up that I had chosen the option to remain anonymous (which I had not chosen) and that the connection service is a premium service from Ancestry, which requires basic membership with a minimal subscription fee. Clicking the "Go to Ancestry Profile" button below will take you to genebug2's profile on Ancestry where you can click the "Contact this person" link to send a private, anonymous message through the connection service. I see no point in going backwards. The boards WERE very good. You could view by all, the classification of your choice, thread collapsed, thread expanded, date collapsed, date expanded. You could view an author's posting history. It was possible to navigate from ONE thread to the next. Now, you can view thread or flat mode, must do an advanced search (10 results per page) to find every message of a certain classification on a board, can NOT view an author's posting history (even your own) and at present you cannot even do an advanced search for the author. Now it is impossible to navigate between threads without "backing out" to the main board view. These are not improvements. Yeah, I do have to like it. I will not waste my time VOLUNTEERING on boards whose functionality has been TRASHED. I'm not the only admin feeling that way either.

So I have a Turquoise Screen of Death, instead of helpful info and my email address. (I have a copy of the old HTML, so I can fix that once it is working again.
