Hello It is a *board* message - forgive I am new to this. I emailed the lady and still got quite a confused message back. She has 2 userids and I have deleted the messages from one of them. I have now asked her if she wants the more upto date messages to go too. Can you tell me though if the message is in a thread and I delete message 5 (say) do all subsequest messages on the thread get deleted too? Kathie- If you can get in via the ANCESTRY side but not via the RootsWeb side that would indicate a disconnection between the UCDM (Ancestry's master registration database) and the RootsWeb registration process. Usually this is a temporary issue and should be reported to the RootsWeb HelpDesk in that the problem is with the connection to the RootsWeb side. Joan -------------- Well I will no longer be relying on the Rootsweb side then. Thank you Richard. I was able to get to my admin side there. I am deleting Rootsweb bookmarks. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)
Kathie, I've had the same thing happen to me in the last couple of weeks. I've contacted helpdesk but have yet to hear anything from them. It seems to be an intermittent problem, one day it's fine, the next, NOT. I've also had trouble being able to edit some boards, one thread I'll be able to move/edit etc., then the next I get booted off and have to log in, and when I log in correctly, it will tell me that I'm unauthorized - but when I go to another thread on the same board, everything works fine. Go figure that one out. Joan, I HAVE reported this problem today and other times. NO ONE ever responds. The HELP DESK is pretty useless to me at this point. Every couple weeks this happens and it IS A ROOTSWEB problem and it gets ignored from anything I have been able to tell. Please don't say it is a temporary problem when it is an ongoing issue for more than myself. BAD PROGRAMMING and bad planning seems to be the MANTRA of TGN/Ancestry/Rootsweb and it is just getting OLD. Well I will no longer be relying on the Rootsweb side then. Thank you Richard. I was able to get to my admin side there. I am deleting Rootsweb bookmarks. I am tired of dealing with the never-ending board problems. I am beginning to think that this company doesn't give a Rat's butt what we as admins have to put up with because they can't fix all the problems that they started by "IMPROVING" the boards a year ago. Sometime in the new year I may be dumping my boards if I get completely fed up. I already have dumped all but one of my many lists since all these so called improvements came about. Kathie- I wonder if you may have lost the cookie that logs you into the right account to admin your boards. When you go to the user side of the boards are you shown as being logged in? If so--is the username that is showing the correct one that you use to admin your boards? If not--LOGOUT and click on LOGIN and login under your board admin account and see if that fixes the problem. Joan --------------- Why would I need to re-boot my computer? I have not been able to access the admin side of the boards since I started my computer today and I can access the user side just fine. That is even after logging off and then logging back in. Re-booting is not going to correct boards that are buggy. This has happened before and not just to me. I am able to access my Lists Admin pages but NOT the board admin section of my BOARDS so that tells me it is a BOARD problem not a computer problem. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

Kathie, I've had some days where I had to enter my username and p-word 4 or 5 times to get in to my boards....I don't know why they still are so "buggy" after a year, but I just logged in to my boards now using this login page: https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/signin Is that the one that you use to sign in? It takes me to the rootsweb main page where I scroll down to the left column link "Message Boards Home Page" click on that and on the next page I click on the "Admin Center" link at the bottom of the page. If I'm already signed in I can also click on this URL from my Favorite Places folder to get straight to my admin page: http://boards.rootsweb.com/default.aspx?view=admin Lou --------------original message--------------- In a message dated 12/16/2007 12:58:57 P.M. Lou I have a bookmarked link with my password that always goes directly to my admin page. It was working yesterday and I use it several times EVERY single day. I also tried from My Accounts page and clicked on ADMIN for the board I wanted to access and it takes me to the USER side and not the ADMIN side. This happens about every other week and for MANY hours at a time. Logging out and logging in does not correct this for me. Any reply indented under the post you are going to remove will be deleted along with the post -- although if you LOOK at the deleted post in the recycle bin you will not SEE the attached replies that were deleted along with it--this tends to be confusing as is having to view the thread in THREAD mode to see the indentation! I can't access my Administrative side of the boards AGAIN from my link that I ALWAYS use for this purpose, nor can I access it from my admin link in My Accounts. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Can you tell me though if the message is in a thread and I delete message 5 (say) do all subsequest messages on the thread get deleted too? Fiona -------------------------- If the messages below the message that you want to delete are "attached" they will be deleted, but if they're not attached, they won't be deleted. You can tell if messages below are attached by observing if they are INDENTED below the message that you're going to delete. If the messages below are all in a straight line at the left margin, then they are not attached. For an example take a look at this thread: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.hamilto n/5560/mb.ashx The 5 messages below the first one are all attached to the first one, and also each one is attached to the one above it because each one is indented. The 6th message is only attached to the first message, because it's left margin is in line with the 2nd message. The 8th and last message is only attached to the one above it -- the 7th message. So as an example if the poster of the 2nd message (Earl Ross) asked me to delete his message all 4 of the messages attached to his would go also, but the other 2 messages below it (message 7 and 8) would stay. Hope this isn't too confusing to understand. Marilyn **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)
Hello and Welcome, Yes, all messages will be deleted. If you can, move any messages that can stand on their own, prior to deleting her message. You will move those messages back to your own board. What I do when I have this happen, and I happen to have one woman who does this to me all the time, is explain to her that while the message may not be needed by her any longer, that these boards will be around for a long time to come, and someone someday may need the information she has provided, even if that message is a query, it may contain something pertinent to someone research, so is she absolutely sure that she wants it deleted. Then I go from there. Hope this helps, Rene' -------Original Message------- From: Fiona Hall Date: 12/16/2007 11:24:12 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BAd] Removing a message Hello It is a *board* message - forgive I am new to this. Fiona- Sounds like you are making extra work for yourself. If the lady wants her posts deleted it is up to HER to mark EACH POST she wants removed by reporting abuse. It isn't YOUR job to go hunting for them. Tell her she must REPORT ABUSE for EACH post while viewing the posts. Then all you need to do is click on the link to view your OBJECTIONS and delete each marked post in turn after you view it to assure she is only asking for HER OWN posts to be deleted. Hi, if what you're talking about were a *BOARD* post, I would of course second the two answers you got sofar. But from your message it appears that it's about *list* postings? If so, then 1) this list is the wrong place bcs it's about board admins' duties, work, and related questions. And 2) I don't think you can do much in order to comply. The posts are in the archives where it's difficult if not outright impossible to remove anything.
