    3. Lynne, Perhaps you are willing to use two different browser types at once, but I am not. I use only Firefox. And as far as I know, I can't have one Firefox window open using one username and another Firefox window open with another username. That's what I tried doing before with Netscape, and it never worked. And I absolutely refuse to use Internet Explorer, so using that as one of the browsers is simply not an option for me. -- Mary On Mon, 21 Jan 2008 [email protected] wrote: > Mary D. 2. I also like to have my ancestry paid subscription open (from the ancestry side) and the boards open at the same time (from the rootsweb side) so I can answer lookup requests. I use both Usernames at once. I log into my paid subscription Username at ancestry.com and log into my "other" board username from the rootsweb interface -- (the sign in page URL that I enclosed in my previous email). It works fine. Of course I use my AOL software so I can have multiple browser windows open at the same time but I suppose you can also have multiple IE windows open at the same time? -- but you would have to diminish each one alternately as you go back and forth? 3. If you are logged in under the username for your paid subscription, you will first need to log out. Then you should be able to go to the sign in screen and instead of entering an existing username and password, set up a new one. But I personally would caution you against doing that. I tried that at first, but found it really didn't work for me because I couldn't do any admin work on the boards at the same time I was logged in with my paid subscription. I could either use one or the other, but not both at the same time. And it became a royal PITA to keep logging out and switching username/password to either search [paid subscription username] or admin [admin username]. So I ultimately abandoned the separate username and went back to using my paid subscription username for all admin duties -- that way I didn't have to deal with the constant need to log out and log back in with a different username depending on what I wanted to do. And now I essentially have orphan posts that were posted with that old admin username that I no longer use; I really wish there was a way to change them all to my paid subscription username, but there isn't as far as I know. And for that same reason, you won't be able to change the username of your existing board posts to whatever new admin-only username you choose, because they are tied in to your paid subscription username, which is why they changed when you changed the username for your paid subscription. -- Mary D. 2. Joan, I also have a different Username for my paid subscription to ancestry, but it is tied in with the boards on the ancestry interface and lets you view or post messages. To set up a different username go to the rootsweb interface: https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/signin and click on the "Register" tab to register with a different Username, password etc. It's my understanding that ancestry wants us to have everything under one account, but I don't want everything under my paid subscription Username -- I have my reasons. That may be why you didn't get any help. Lou ---------------original message------------------ In a message dated 1/21/2008 9:51:54 A.M. 1. [BAd] My Notifications?
    2. Wendy Howard
    3. Has anyone received their "My Notifications" email in the past few days? I haven't. The last one in my mail box is dated 17 January - four days ago now, which means I've missed three days'-worth (it's the morning of the 21st here in NZ, and the email normally arrives in the evening). I have checked my spam folder. When the announcement of the move to a new server came through and others reported the boards being much quicker, I cleared the three previous days' notices, which I'd put off because of all the problems we've all be having. No problems with that, *except* none of the links in the emails worked, so I had to work through them slowly and manually locate the threads that had been created or added to in that time. I accepted that as a small price to pay for the boards being moved to the new server where things would be more efficient. No notification emails have arrived since then. I'm also having difficulty accessing "My Account" this morning. Is this just me? Would like to know before I report it. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard -- Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wendyh65/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewendyh65/>

    3. Oh yes, yes, yes, Joan! You've explained the whole process much better than I did, and it is SO frustrating. The freeze I mentioned referred only to the My Alerts page, but what you've said about the actual board pages is also happening. For me, the board pages are loading-freezing-loading just as you describe, but eventually they do load. But when I try to exit the My Alerts pages it ends up totally shutting down my browser, so I'm trying to train myself to leave the boards from any page other than My Alerts.<s> Apparently on the message pages themselves where you're seeing "javascript" and "opening page" Firefox is showing the name of actual script file, and I'd bet almost anything that the one that has held you up for 10 seconds is that "Transferring data from switchatdmt.com" script. I counted 9 seconds one time, but mostly it takes 3-6 seconds to run, and during that time the page is completely frozen. It's maddening. FWIW, I just found the sticky note with the error message I get when My Alerts shuts down the browser: MS Visual C+ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program Firefox.exe R6025 Pure virtual function call Thanks, Beth On Jan 20, 2008 6:38 PM, <[email protected]> wrote: > Beth- > > It is interesting that you mention pages freezing when navigating the > boards.
