Have you been reading this list recently, Tilman? We've been discussing this all week - see the subject line "My Notifications?" in the archives. No-one has received any alerts since it was announced that the boards have been moved to a new server - at least, no-one has reported that they are since I asked on Monday. This has been reported to Rootsweb, but I've not received any reply to my complaint yet - first sent Monday morning (NZ time), another sent yesterday morning, now it is Friday afternoon. I wrote to the "[email protected]" address both times. The Help Desk is now saying "We have upgraded our message board hardware and everything went well. There are still a few issues that are occurring intermittently, Request New Board and Report Abuse are two of these errors, we are also seeing reports of links not working in our email notification emails. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we work to restore these features." I admin more than 200 boards - and I have no desire to start bringing them up one-by-one to monitor if I can help it! I've checked via "My Account" just now too, and the alerts are still set as they should be. True, but the old pre-WIN options are still available for those who like emphasis in their words.(g) Putting an _ before and after a word implies it's underlined. A * before and after makes it bold, and a / before and after is Italics. Paul PLAIN TEXT is usually Arial 10 and no colors, bold, italic or any other text style [Rich Text format or RTF]. Rootsweb has never allowed anything other than Plain text to the lists. Anything else would end up in pending as HTML and would be deleted by default or by the admin. On Jan 25, 2008 11:50 AM, Paul A. OK, what about the list of all the ones I'm subbed to? I want the page where I enter my e-dress and it sends out the list. The myaccounts page is only giving me ONE board and 0 lists, and I know that's wrong. Hi Lauren, Thanks...Shall I assume that include any text tweaking: ie. italics, underlined, text size, font face & text color? Paul
Lauren, There wasn't an official notice (from staff) posted on the BAd board either, but Joan referenced both an announcement by staff and an email sent around by staff. The original "blurb" on the obsolete HelpDesk did not include the *filing* abuse problem. Of course the current blurb on RootsWeb support (which now includes programming errors itself) claims it occurs "intermittently". In the past week, it has happened *every time* I've tried to report abuse. Not exactly intermittent. (And the pertinent message by xandervan on the BAd board detailing all the methods staff COULD notify us has been deleted.) I have seen nothing as well. Also, the adoption process seems still to be dead. Both of these must be among the "intermittent" problems that are supposedly being worked on. Maybe next January some of these will have been corrected. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tilman Brandl Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2008 1:53 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [BAd] No alerts since 7 days Hi, I haven't seen any board alerts from about 24 subscriptions since Jan 17th ... Cheryl- The only place you can get a list of all the BOARDS AND LISTS you admin is at MyAccount: https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/ Joan ----------- I know there's a place at RW where I can ask for the list of all the boards I admin, all the lists I admin, etc etc etc. But I can't find it again, and I don't see the message I sent myself about it? Could someone please he'p me out here? (g) Thanks. Cheryl **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. Paul: Whether you realize it or not, "bold" text is HTML encoded. You need to send in ascii/ansi... plain text by the definition of the computers that interpret it, not by what your eye sees. Dan: Perhaps this is due to the fact the BAD list and board are no longer gatewayed? Intermittent??? If the abuse report issue is "intermittent", I wonder what they consider constant? You are correct,Valerie -- no IE for Macs -- and none wanted here! Marie Boone Co.,AR CC On Jan 23, 2008, at 11:13 PM, Valorie Zimmerman wrote: > Just a reminder that some of us *cannot* use IE. Just a reminder that some of us *cannot* use IE. I have a linux computer, and there is no IE available, even if I wanted one. I believe the same to be true of Mac users. No great loss; I didn't use it even when I used Windows. Opera is another option for most, and it can "appear" as IE if the website is dumb enough to require that to work correctly. Some > objections are > not being associated with the correct message--they are somehow being > associated with a message other than the one the objector placed the > objection on. (snipped) I've seen two distinctly different kinds of blank objections (and they were nothing to do with firewalls etc) The first kind appeared twice on different days in December. The Review Objection boxes eventually appeared after numerous attempts which threw up error messages, and then the individual Judge Objection Boxes were *totally* blank - there wasn't even a link/button to enable one to reject, delete, etc --- Absolutely nothing. I reported to Staff a couple of times but heard nothing. The only thing I could read was the 'objector's' name and luckily it was unusual and so I was able to track down an email address. The objector told me which message was the subject of the objections and I corrected the problem surname line. However I couldn't clear the objections as there was no visible button to do that. Staff obviously spotted them as they were eventually cleared (not at the same time) days apart. I now, again, currently have one objection waiting for action. This time the box has no link to the original message, but at least I can see it appears to relate to a message moved (possibly) from another Board and it is locked by someone else. Staff appear to be dealing but I have no idea which message the objection relates to. I had thought - obviously wrongly - that this was a well identified problem which was being dealt with. In fact I could swear I've seen much earlier notice about this, either on the help desk on in Admin News...........but can't find it now, so guess I must have imagined it. Ann
Hi Joan, Thanks, I will do that. Maybe I need to clarify my statements a bit. I'm all FOR proper subject lines and have tried to get my posters "online" with that. It's just that with all the discussion about them, at least on the ROTH lists, I found it odd that a majority of the proper subject line posts didn't fare as well as some of the "improper" ones. I found one vague subject line on my FUREY board that had 19 hits! So I didn't change it. Many of the ones (only 8 found) I did change on the FUREY board are ones where the email address given was not current. I tried asking the posters if they would agree to my changing their subject boxes and my queries bounced. If their board posts had one or two reponses, I changed the subject lines on those as well. It looks like posters aren't doing subject specific searches and are browsing each board post by post. Which seems to make proper subject lines redundant. However, I will continue to urge my board and list subscribers to "do the proper thing"...at least it will make it easier for the researchers who are doing subject specific searches. One question about sending Plain Text messages: Does that mean that Italics or any other text tweak will cause a problem? Lynne asked if I posted my Jan 19th ghost-post in html. (it didn't make it to the list). I never use html in my email posts. Though I may have used bold text (it's easier for me to read). But it didn't show up blank...it didn't show up at all...no posts were posted on the 19th in the archives. I've got a copy of it in my Sent file. Regards, Paul
I just remembered to click on "Help" and saw the message recorded (repeated?) yesterday saying that all went well except for "intermittent" problems. My frustration is growing daily but I am determined to "stay the course" until they actually come out and tell us all to go away in plain English. I can be stubborn! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2008 9:14 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BAd] {BAd] Can't View Objection -- Blank White Page In a message dated 1/22/2008 11:15:45 A.M.
