Sites set up with security certificates are intended to instill confidence in Web Users. However, sites (companies) must renew their certificates to continue having the privledge of calling themselves "secure." This is much more important when you're giving a site very sensitive info, such as credit card info. The "warning" box pops up when a secure site's certificate has expired. Expired only means they missed the deadline--normally sites ARE doing whatever they need to do, it's in process, but has not been completed--yet. Soon the box should disappear-- if TGN completes what they need to do. Your own PC's settings also determine if you'll see the box. Look under Tools on Internet Explorer...Internet Options... Security... then it has a box for Secure/ Trusted Sites. I believe you can list sites there but I think you need the https beginning rather than http (??) You'll see if you try to add www.ancestry.com Now, just to do boards, it's not really an issue. You aren't giving a credit card, so no big deal. But as a user, you always have the option of staying off a site you don't trust. When I try to open the board sign-in page at: _https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/signin_ (https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/signin) a Security Alert window pops up with a yellow triangle in the upper left corner with an exclamation mark in it and a padlock by it that says: "Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. Then there is a green circle with a check mark in it and by the circle it says: "The Security Certificate is from a trusted authority." Marilyn, read my post again. That is what I am saying. The REPORT ABUSE feature DOES NOT work. That is what I was saying. Not sure how my comment was misunderstood. Marilyn, After reading your post I checked one of my boards where I'd deleted an off-topic post this morning. Sure enough, it was there, but in my case it also showed up in the recycle bin. I just deleted it again, and now there are two of "it" in the recycle bin, but as far as I can tell it hasn't shown up on the message board again, but I'll got back and check that again when some time has passed. Hi Kathie, You wrote: "That is your email program that shows it in bold on rhw subject line." Well...I guess you /can/ teach an "old" dog new tricks...thanks. Paul
My understanding is that NONE of the report abuse links are working since the server move. So it would seem to be pretty "universal." Joan -------------- Well, if you consider that you have a very small percentage of boards compared to the total number of them, it is an "intermittant" issue. That is your email program that shows it in bold on rhw subject line. Plain text is how subject lines come through anyway so that does not matter. The body of the message is what must be in Plain text on Rootsweb. On Jan 26, 2008 3:02 PM, Paul A. Thanks Kathie, Cheryl & Wendy. Wendy, I'm using Yahoo Mail. I've _never_ had a problem with my posts to the lists until the 19th. I /did/ use *bold text* in _that_ particular message. Will not do it again. End of problem. Thanks. {;-) However, the "From" amd "Subject:" lines, above, are in *bold*...??? And if you use an intelligent email program, it will display the formatting you implied even though it is in plain text when you open the email to read it. If someone else sent this post (since with Gmail I don't receive copies of my own) I would see the *bold*, /italics/,and _underlines_ here, not just the characters either side of the words. I use Thunderbird. Paul, re-reading what you said, about tweaking the text, the fact that you have not set any bold, etc, does not necessarily mean that your post is in plain text. You must intentionally make it plain text if you normally work in an HTML environment. I can't see in the headers of your post what email program you're using to give you specific advice, but there should be something you can do so that you can instruct your email program to always send to the mailing lists in plain text. Try looking up the help in your program if you need guidance, or take a look at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/listadmins/plaintext.html Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard -- Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wendyh65/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewendyh65/> ----- Original Message ----- *From:* singhals <[email protected]> *To:* [email protected] *Sent:* 01/26/2008 8:03:48 AM +1300 *Subject:* [BAd] HTML Text Tweaking > True, but the old pre-WIN options are still available for > those who like emphasis in their words.(g) > > Putting an _ before and after a word implies it's > underlined.
