So, unless they change over to using the surname field I guess we'll never know the answer to your question. I sent my own "two cents' worth" to Feedback, including the plea to make "Preview" actually give us a preview of what the Boards Information screen will show, instead of just showing the text and html code that we just pasted in the text box. To me, that is much more valuable than yet another "gadget" to play with. Jim

    2. Beth- There is no reliable method of identifying a word in the message body as being a surname. Even though people don't always use the surname box correctly, it would still make more sense to use the names in THAT field for the links if they are going to have links. Perhaps, if they did it that way we could convince them to add a blurb explaining how to use the surname box correctly when posting! We've all been wanting that just about forever. Joan -------- I think the idea is good, but it needs to be made more practical for users and admins. Beth **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living. 3. Joan, I wondered about that. It definitely would make more sense to use the names in the surname box, especially as it didn't recognize the actual surname in the example I gave. Given the problem with missing surnames in the box, if this thing works something like a spider couldn't it come back and "revisit" the message from time to time to pick up whatever surnames an admin has added? [snip] Yes, the distraction factor is very high, especially when those balloons come flying out at you. The message area is small enough, and the balloons large enough, that almost no matter where you point your cursor something's popping out to interrupt the train of thought. Also, when cleaning up the surname area in message, I often copy particularly unusual surnames rather than retype them and possibly make a spelling error. That's going to be difficult to do now. I think the idea is good, but it needs to be made more practical for users and admins. Beth -- "There are more molecules of water in a cup of water than cups of water in all the world's oceans. 3. ok... so I am a bit late in this.... When you find a poster has cross posted...multiposted.... the correct procedure is to mark each and every one so that Staff can take care of them. Staff does not "have time" to go on a grand search, but can act if they are in the objection que. Staff occasionally taps volunteers on the shoulder to go and mark the mulitposts... so... if you find them and have time... mark all but the most appropriate and they will be deleted.
