    3. Hi Nan: Just viewed the post. She only included her email address, not a website. We are not to make those "leaps of faith," but rather judge the post on the content. Content in this post does not mention selling, nor point to a commercial website. So, yes... your initial thought was correct. Further response on the thread may bring different results/opinion. In that event, check with STAFF. 1. [BAd] Something Wrong with this Post?
    2. I received an objection this morning for this post on my Allen County, OH board: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.allen/1 714/mb.ashx Over the last few months, I've seen these posts across several of my Ohio county boards, but each one is board specific, in that the poster names schools that are in that specific county. I don't see anything wrong with the post, in fact I found it quite interesting. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with it? Thanks, Marilyn **************It's Tax Time! 1. Re: [BAd] Quick Question
    2. Lauren Boyd
    3. Tammy: That is not against the rules, but usually the "Board Information" link/pop up is used for that purpose. I generally will, depending on the board, post a message that there has been a change in Administrator and point people to the Board Information link. Sometimes when there is need due to several people not "getting it", I will post an Administrative Message to a board. However, for either of those, I do not let them remain in perpetuity and will later go back and remove them. Board culture is not the same as list culture. It should be rare that Admin Notes are found. The rules are cut and dried for the boards, whereas they are more mercurial for the lists. So -- it would be mostly newbies that would not be aware of companion lists and gateways. Not all people want to subscribe and join a mailing list. Especially for a County as there is such a wide range of posts and they are, of course, only interested in their small corner and family name(s). I'd be more encouraging of this tactic for a surname list. However, the same rationale holds true. Sometimes people use the boards on a onsie-twosie basis. They may not have a bunch of research to do, just a single generation or collateral connection they are exploring. Good luck to you in your decision. Cheers, Lauren

    3. Hi Vic: There can be many reasons for objections, including an Admin doing a task requested of them by STAFF for prolific off topic or multi-posters or spammers. I looked at the website. It is architectural in nature, not genealogical. "Interesting" and mentioning a location is not always "on topic." When in doubt, ask STAFF for a ruling. You can do this either by writing [email protected] or posting an objection yourself and marking it ATTN STAFF and ask for a ruling on the post or type of post. Fellow Admins will have many opinions, but may not be in line with STAFF's offishul opinion/ruling. Welcome to the ranks of the Rootsweb Volunteers! 1. [BAd] Another Problem with "New Feature"
    2. I've just discovered another annoying problem with the new board feature of underlining "alleged" surnames. If I'm cleaning up a long thread, I copy/paste the first message into a blank email form and keep it open to the side of the board. By doing that, I'm able to see if the thread strays away from the original message and I need to break it up and move messages. It also helps with editing the subject line so the thread stays connected where needed. I can't copy/paste the messages any longer because the underlines stop the cursor from going any further.. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? Marilyn **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance. (http://money.aol.com/tax?NCID=aolprf00030000000001)

    3. Joan, I just took a look at my one, firstly in "source mode" - and saw the pile of junk that you have reported. When I opened the email in Thunderbird normally, it appeared as it should though the text is quite small. Before the recent fiasco where we didn't receive these emails at all, I used to notice that the alerts would arrive in one of three formats - this small print, larger ("normal") print, and normal print but no line breaks. I haven't noticed that happening since we started getting the emails again. I've taken a screen shot of the small and normal text posts, and posted to the board with the picture, in case you're interested - see http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.rw.admin.badmin/5145/mb.ashx Wendy PS there was no attachment showing, either in Thunderbird or on the Gmail web interface. ----- Original Message ----- *From:* [email protected] *To:* [email protected] *Sent:* 03/01/2008 6:18:31 AM +1300 *Subject:* [BAd] My Alerts -- this gets weirder and weirder > I've been thinking about this since it appears I'm the only one this > happened to and I have a question for the rest of you who received your Alerts email > normally... > > Did any of you have a message within the Alerts that, when you viewed it, > had an attachment with it? > > I'm actually starting to wonder if My Alerts attempted to send me an > attachment (graphic) within the text alerts message. > > There is SOMETHING different that is setting mine apart and a graphic > attachment seems ot make the most sense.
