I think they are making some of the changes that were announced last week. I've just gone to the Rootsweb home page (www.rootsweb.com, though I can't tell you now if that's the URL for the page that came up), found I wasn't logged in (which I normally am), and on clicking on "sign in" found myself logged in with no further action required from me. I was now at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ Clicking on "My Account" still took me to https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/ where all my usual details were listed. A little patience is probably needed while these changes are going on. If something doesn't work at this moment, try coming back in a while and see if it works then. If it still doesn't work after a day, I'd think about reporting the problem to the Help Desk. Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard -- Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wendyh65/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewendyh65/> ----- Original Message ----- *From:* [email protected] *To:* [email protected] *Sent:* 03/20/2008 11:06:43 AM +1300 *Subject:* [BAd] Where Do I Sign In? > I went to the usual rootsweb sign-in page today to admin my boards: > > https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/signin > > and instead of getting the sign in page, I got the rootsweb home page at: > > https://myaccount.rootsweb.ancestry.com/signin > > When I clicked on the Sign In link in the upper right hand corner, I was > taken to the rootsweb > homepage again. I just let staff know about it and the objection eventually gets removed. Lynne
Thanks everyone for your suggestions and explanations. Whatever was wrong yesterday seems to be working okay today. I was clicking on a link in my Favorite Places to get to the sign in page so I wasn't typing the URL in manually, but I was taken to the rootsweb home page and when I clicked the "Sign In" I kept getting the rootsweb home page, where I clicked "Sign In", which took me to the rootsweb home page, etc. etc. etc........ like I was going in circles and the actual sign in page never appeared. Leona- I wouldn't worry about it because the only people who would be able to lock you out would be staff or the development team. So it means someone else is taking action on that specific objection. Perhaps it was spam that board staff is dealing with or perhaps it is a bug reported to the developers. I believe only staff can lock us out of an objection. Perhaps it was spam that board staff is dealing with or perhaps it is a bug reported to the developers. Joan -------------------- I've gotten a couple of these, too. The objection is Locked and someone else's username is mentioned. Its not staff as I recognize the usernames as other fellow admins. These are appearing on objections to boards I admin. I just report them directly to Elaine and they disappear. Figured it was just a bug. Rick B
Marilyn- ONLY the www.rootsweb.com domain has been switched over to the rootsweb.ancestry.com domain name as yet. So Myaccount wouldn't have been changed over yet. If I had to guess I'd say you probably mistyped the MyAccount URL in some way but typed in the rootsweb.com part correctly. If you do that and the specific URL you type in doesn't exist you WILL be taken to the homepage at www.rootsweb.ancestry.com. Joan ---------------- I went to the usual rootsweb sign-in page today to admin my boards: https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/signin and instead of getting the sign in page, I got the rootsweb home page at: https://myaccount.rootsweb.ancestry.com/signin When I clicked on the Sign In link in the upper right hand corner, I was taken to the rootsweb homepage again. I clicked on the "Sign In" link again and still got the rootsweb home page. So how and where do I sign in now that rootsweb has been moved to ancestry?? Marilyn, Did you actually *sign in*? Since all RootsWeb pages are going to be migrated to rootsweb.ancestry.com addresses, I can understand getting the myaccount.rootsweb.ancestry.com/signin URL. Yesterday, whenever I signed in (and I always log off), I was **always** taken to https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/ regardless of where I had been before. Example, if I signed in when on the Message Boards front page (http://boards.rootsweb.com/) after signing in, I was not taken back to that screen, but to the My Account screen. It was quite annoying but seems to be corrected today. Last week I had two posts turn up that I had queries about, to do with their appropriateness on the particular boards. I sent off messages to the posters asking to clarify, and lodged an objection on each to remind myself of them, so I could take appropriate action either when a reply was received or not after sufficient time. Both objections started out with "NOTE TO SELF" and signed off at the end with my name and that I was the Board Admin. A week has passed, and it's time for me to deal with those posts. But my objections have vanished - they were there the day before, but I decided to wait just one more day before acting. I can only assume that someone at Rootsweb has seen the objections and taken some sort of action - whether it was to delete the posts in question or only remove the objection, I can't tell. I administer over 200 boards, and can't remember which boards were involved. Is this normal? It occurs to me that even though my self-imposed time limit, which I had declared in my objections to remind myself, had passed (by a mere day or two), staff at Rootsweb are not to know if the poster(s) involved had written to me directly and I was about to respond to my objections in some way. Not really complaining here, just stunned that someone took it upon themselves to do this at this point in time. If two weeks or a month had passed, when I'd clearly set myself a limit of a week, it might be different. Wendy
Wendy and Joan, The same thing has happened to me. I knew I had objections pending, but when I clicked the link to view them -- they were gone and I couldn't remember what they were. I was beginning to think I was delusional or getting alzheimers. Marilyn ------------------original message In a message dated 3/18/2008 9:02:33 A.M. Well, I have my AOL client in use also and my Alerts were just fine today. So, it is NOT an "AOL thing" that most people are fond of chalking things up to, not that anyone has said (so far anyway) that is was! :-). Nan - you haven't detailed how you are accessing the boards ... When I follow a link from a gatewayed message, or go in direct from the Ancestry interface (as Admin) I don't get the full pop-up - just a single line . However, when I go direct to the board using the Rootsweb interface or the Ancestry interface (NOT as Admin), I get the full blown box, with the turn off option. Go figure. Peter
