    1. Re: [BAd] Board & list problem
    2. Sandi- It doesn't appear that the problem lies with the gatewayed post on the board--it lies with one of your LIST subscribers whose ISP is sending these bounces in RESPONSE to that particular post--so I think you could feel safe in restoring the post you deleted from the board and searching your subscriber list for: chrisw@spectrumdata.com -- I'd unsub that address and the uncaught bounces should stop. Joan In a message dated 3/28/2009 9:18:22 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, sgorin@glasgow-ky.com writes: I am at my wit's end; have notified the Help desk ... no word yet. Maybe I'm missing something! The Barren Co KY board is gatewayed to KYBARREN; I administer both. Something is wrong with a post made to the board (which I've not included but can find no problem). It was posted ok on the board but when sent to the list, I receive the following bounce (headers expanded). This has been going on for 3 days and to date - perhaps 300 bounces. I removed the post from the board and notified the poster why - nothing, they just keep coming! I have not closed the gateway (hate to) and when I click on the link to administer the bounce, there's nothing there. (before removing the post there wasn't anything thing for me). Is there anything that I can do myself to stop this vicious circle? Thanks, Sandi

    1. Re: [BAd] Geography & surnames
    2. Diane- My advice would be as follows: Your responsibility is the list and seeing that posts to your list are kept on-topic. The board is not your responsibility. Since you have a problem with off-topic posts coming through from the board (which is understandable in this situation) I'd add the gateway address (gc-gateway@rootsweb.com) to the list's BAN list and moderate all posts coming to the list via the gateway-- discard those that involve Manchester, the place, rather than Manchester, the surname. Forward only the on-topic posts in your pending requests to the list. NOTE: be careful to ensure that your privacy options > accept list is set NOT to discard non-subscriber pending requests -- but rather to HOLD them -- otherwise ALL gateway posted will be discarded and not held for your review. When you choose to moderate gateway posts you can't use the DISCARD option. I'd forget about the misplaced board posts because if you report them to the board admin immediately you aren't giving the board admin a chance to do his/her job. Don't assume the admin isn't doing his/her job. Moving misplaced board posts is the board admin's job, not yours. Also, with the MOVE MESSAGE function not working properly don't even assume the admin hasn't tried already to move a post and couldn't. The admin may well have marked a misplaced post already to be moved when the bug is resolved. Joan In a message dated 3/22/2009 4:41:48 P.M. 3. Hi Diane, In regards to your last question as to being out of line to post the objection, my personal opinion is no I don't think that is out of line at all. I appreciate the heads up and would rather move a post or delete it if necessary before it did get replies and have it be more of a problem. I do have a couple of county boards which are sometimes confused with the surname untangling isn't so much fun especially since the "move" function isn't working so well. 3. Hi, I'm posting to both the board admin and the list admin lists, because the answers will be different - but I don't mind if one person answers both! I am the admin for the Manchester surname board and the gatewayed Manchester surname list. Two out of three new posters are researching in Manchester, England. For the list, I put a big prepend that says SURNAME not Town or something like that. I think it's working but would welcome other ideas. What do I do for the board? I can usually keep the messages off the list because new board posters are not subscribed to the list, and I will move the message off the board. But it's such a waste of everyone's time, including the researcher. Diane in Seattle Diane Hettrick dhettrick@earthlink.net

    3. I've had a reply from the Help Desk just now to my query about the Anonymous posters: Dear Wendy, Thank you for contacting us. I apologize for this difficulty. It is an internal error on the message boards and is directed to several conditions. The developers are working on the fix for this error and the information of the accounts, usernames, etc... will not be lost. If some of the objections you are trying to solve cannot be solved with your efforts, leave the objection in the queue and I will see it in about 7 days and can use other tools to solve the objection. Thank you for all you are doing and for your patience while we fix this issue. Let us know if there is any more we can do for you. 1. Re: [BAd] How to remove this thread? (was Author's deletion request)
    2. Tilman- It looks as if only you and I mentioned the poster by by name that was on the View Posts list in this thread. So you and I can remove those posts from the thread. Here's what you need to do... Start by finding the two posts in the list archives here: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/BOARDS-ADMINS/2009-03 -- copy the URLs where you find the two messages that include the poster's name and then paste them one at a time here and click submit after each one is entered: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/remove This will trigger an email to the posters (you and me) and we each can then click the link in the confirmation email to complete the removal process. 3. Did you notice if the number of boards assigned to you (visible near the top of the window when you're in the Admin Centre) had changed when your board had vanished? I've found two so far today - one A> dated 2000 and the other dated 2002! A> Examples: <snipped> Examples now disappeared, as I reported them to Staff and they are now in the Recycle Bin - presumably put there by said Staff. 3. On 12/03/2009 Joan scribed thus: J> This morning I visited a thread that had no Anonymous posters only to J> find that they are now marked Anonymous. When clicking on 'view J> posts' I am directed to a page has a user name. Is this a bug or J> something new? J> Joan My boards seem to have sprouted a batch of anons as well, and I've just been to look at a reply to one of my posts on a board I don't admin and found some of my earlier posts are showing as Anonymous too but if I click the View Posts link beside Anonymous it credits the posts to me... bizarre! -- Cheers, Anne Docwra Family Research Project http://www.docwras.org.uk
