    3. Thanks, Scott. Yes I have noticed exactly what you have described. Very messed up, indeed. And just getting worse! Jim -----Original Message----- From: Scott R. C. Anderson [mailto:srca@mindspring.com] Sent: Sunday, June 16, 2019 10:25 PM To: James Jackson; boards-admins@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [BAd] Re: email address in board information page They've stripped out your e-mail address, at least in the page that's presented to users: Board Admin: <a>Jim Jackson</a> when it should say something like Board Admin: <a href="emailto:jwjackson43@charter.net">Jim Jackson</a> Can you see how to edit it if you're logged in? It might still show up in your view — and then stripped out to other viewers. Ancestry's boards seem to periodically get very messed up. Scott

    3. It appears they have removed the email links, but not URLs. I checked several of my boards and that is the case. I went through all of them a while back and updated them all to the same email address. I tried to edit the board information, but when I added in the mailto: information, it would not save it. I left off the mailto: and it saved it as a url. When I clicked on it it brought up my admin home page in the window. I clicked the "Reset to default Board Information" which erased everything. I then re-entered the info and the mailto link was replaced with <a> Using the insert email link causes it to create a link that takes you to an ad for ancestry. There is a broken image link at the top of the page that probably is supposed to show the email address entered on the edit page. 3. On the Aiken message board, for example, click "Board Information" and you will see what I have there. Clicking on my name, before the developers attempted to "fix" something else, would bring up an email message, Outlook in my case as that is my default email program. The "To" field would have the necessary address information already filled in. The "Close This Window" button at bottom would close the window when clicked. The only thing that works is the "To see the Aiken Mailing List archives or to subscribe, [Click Here.]" That takes you to the mailing list information page. Before all the changes started taking place a few years ago, one could include code that would expand the window to full screen, display whatever background color the admin wished to have and display an icon at top that would display "Proud Rootsweb Admin" or some such when hovered over with the mouse. These things were made to quit working because of the fear that someone MIGHT do something sinister with the information page. So some coding was prohibited while certain other would still work. I hope this answers your question about the matter. If not, let me know and I will try again. Best wishes, Jim -----Original Message----- From: Scott R. C. 3. I have noticed that a number of boards I once adminned have been adopted by others but the Info page still shows my contact information. Not that anyone seems to ever click on the board information button but, if you are admin for one of these boards, please replace my info with your own. You can also click "Edit Board Info" and "Reset to default board information" and get rid of my info. Thanks, Jim

    3. Jim, I don't think they are ignoring anyone (I have found them very responsive) ; but they have been rebuilding RootsWeb from the ground up with new hardware, software, and programming; for the many RW services (web hosting, mailing lists, message boards, etc.) and they are still learning what works, what needs to be fixed, what adjustments *can* be made, etc. and etc. If you have a case number, you can follow up using that case number, but depending on the complexity of your question/problem, give them time to look at the whole picture. 3. I have sent several notes to the rwsupport address in the past few weeks with the only result being the automatic " Thank you for submitting your question to us. Case #XXXXXXX has been created and a Customer Solutions Associate will respond to you shortly." There has yet to be any follow up from an associate. Has anyone else experienced this lately or are they just ignoring me? Jim

    1. [BAd] My Alerts
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. I am having to make email address changes and have added several boards to "My Alerts" with an account which has no adopted boards. Of course, I cannot go into "Admin Center" without adopting boards but supposedly I should be able to see my list of "My Alerts" boards. I cannot find any way to do so. The instructions in the Help Center are useless. I click on "Message Boards" tab as instructed but "My Alerts" is nowhere to be found. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim

    3. When you are looking at the home page of the board, there should be a box near the upper right hand side of the page labeled "Tools" There is a link there to Add Board to Alerts Or Remove Board from Alerts, which ever is applicable. There is also a link to See All alerts. However Alerts don't work for me. I can't remember the last time I've gotten an alert. I should have received one today, but I haven't yet. 1. [BAd] Trying to Give up Boards -- This is insane!!!
    2. After 3 weeks of fishing and questions, I finally received this information. Hope it works. Good grief!! Why does it have to be so hard to find this information???  If you no longer wish to be an administrator, please e-mail the message board staff at messageboards@rootsweb.com and include your username and the name of the board(s) you would no longer wish to administer. So my email bounced back with this reply! What is going on???Marilyn | Your message to messageboards@rootsweb.com couldn't be delivered. | | messageboards wasn't found at rootsweb.com. | | | kaesemein | Office 365 | messageboards | | Action Required | | Recipient | | | | | | | | | | Unknown To address | | | | | | How to Fix It | | The address may be misspelled or may not exist. Try one or more of the following: | | - Send the message again following these steps: In Outlook, open this non-delivery report (NDR) and choose Send Again from the Report ribbon. In Outlook on the web, select this NDR, then select the link "To send this message again, click here." Then delete and retype the entire recipient address. If prompted with an Auto-Complete List suggestion don't select it. After typing the complete address, click Send. - Contact the recipient (by phone, for example) to check that the address exists and is correct. - The recipient may have set up email forwarding to an incorrect address. Ask them to check that any forwarding they've set up is working correctly. - Clear the recipient Auto-Complete List in Outlook or Outlook on the web by following the steps in this article: Fix email delivery issues for error code 5.1.1 in Office 365, and then send the message again. Retype the entire recipient address before selecting Send. | | If the problem continues, forward this message to your email admin. If you're an email admin, refer to the More Info for Email Adminssection below. | | | Was this helpful? Send feedback to Microsoft. | | | | More Info for Email Admins | | Status code: 550 5.1.1  This error occurs because the sender sent a message to an email address outside of Office 365, but the address is incorrect or doesn't exist at the destination domain. The error is reported by the recipient domain's email server, but most often it must be fixed by the person who sent the message. If the steps in the How to Fix It section above don't fix the problem, and you're the email admin for the recipient, try one or more of the following: The email address exists and is correct - Confirm that the recipient address exists, is correct, and is accepting messages. Synchronize your directories - If you have a hybrid environment and are using directory synchronization make sure the recipient's email address is synced correctly in both Office 365 and in your on-premises directory. Errant forwarding rule - Check for forwarding rules that aren't behaving as expected. Forwarding can be set up by an admin via mail flow rules or mailbox forwarding address settings, or by the recipient via the Inbox Rules feature. Mail flow settings and MX records are not correct - Misconfigured mail flow or MX record settings can cause this error. Check your Office 365 mail flow settings to make sure your domain and any mail flow connectors are set up correctly. Also, work with your domain registrar to make sure the MX records for your domain are configured correctly. 3. I'm not getting any alerts even though I have 36 boards selected for alerts which Ancestry now calls notifications. However, some of the boards are still gatewayed to the mailing list. They are held for approval. So I guess I do get an alert for the boards where I also am the admin for the list. I see that you sign up for the alerts on a combined list for all the projects at ancestry where you allow notifications. This list shows the date of the last post. I suppose I could check this list every few days instead of going to each board to see if there are new posts. Three of my alerts said there were posts made today, yet when I checked the boards two of them haven't had any posts since August and the other had a post on September 29. I checked recycle bins in case staff had deleted posts but none contained October posts. > >Lynne > >_______________________________________________ > >_______________________________________________ >Email preferences: http://bit.ly/rootswebpref >Unsubscribe https://lists.rootsweb.com/postorius/lists/boards-admins@rootsweb.com >Privacy Statement: https://ancstry.me/2JWBOdY Terms and Conditions: https://ancstry.me/2HDBym9 >Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blog >RootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb community > >--- >This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. >https://www.avg.com

    3. Hi Marilyn Unlike lists, you can't transfer administration to another person. Staff has to do that (if you can get a hold of them!) The Message Boards help page at https://support.rootsweb.com/s/ has old info. If you go to the board FAQ page there, most of it isn't relevant at all to the message boards. :-( If you click on Other Help Resources: Contacting the HelpDesk or Listmaster it takes you right back to the irrelevant FAQ page. Maybe you could use the contact form at https://support.rootsweb.com/s/contactsupport to let them know you want to switch administration of the boards to someone else. Sorry I'm no help!
