Fellow Board members, This note was forwarded to me by Celia Snyder, former webmaster. I believe that Pam already has a copy of this as current webmaster. - Tim ---------------- Hello; I've been using the "heck" out of the Rootsweb and USGenWeb Project's websites in an effort to trace my family tree; I've used the resources from several different counties and several different states and one thing that I find every page has in common is that I'm yet to find anyone using Javascript and CSS Styles to improve the functionality or the appearance of their pages. This is what prompted me to seek-out your "HTML Help" page (http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/htmlhelp.html) that you link from your Volunteer Information page (http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/volunteers.html) and to be honest, though the page was relatively current a couple of years ago, it's no wonder the newbies who by and large coordinate your various counties don't use the more modern technologies to more easily accomplish their goals. I am a Web Professional who recently sold an ISP to a larger company, better equipped to take on AOL and Gateway. I designed my first website for Netscape 1.0, back when it was new and since then, I have designed, implemented and consulted on the installation of innumerable websites in several different industries. I realize that someone named C.G. Snyder appears to be the person charged with maintaining your "HTML Help" page, but to be honest, considering the apparent outdatedness of several links, I'd be surprised if there has been any updates in quite some time; Though, I was surprised how few of the links did not lead to live webpages, so I wouldn't take any bets about the last time C. Snyder uploaded a new page. But, nonetheless, I'd like to volunteer to take over the maintenance of your HTML HelpSite... Sincerely; Russell A. Wrenn
