I agree. I also see nothing wrong with listing the projects on the Special Projects page. Since some object to them being identified as seperate projects you could put them under the Archives heading and maybe use a one size smaller font. That should be sufficient to identify them as subprojects of the Archives, appease those who object and still let the researchers know that they are there.
