    2. David, Please point me to what parliamentary rule you are using for this reasoning, please? I believe the outcome of this one was decided before the election began. The top two vote receivers were to be elected - most votes gets 2 year term and second most votes gets 1 year term. Thanks! Betsy ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: Mainegen@aol.com Reply-To: BOARD-L@rootsweb.com Date: Mon, 2 Aug 1999 11:39:09 EDT >Dear Board Members: The other election SW/SC CC Race, Candidate A 59 (This person is election in my opinion) Candidate B 52 (needs have a run off election with the C, & D) Candidate C 45 (needs to have a run off election with the B & D) Candidate D 45 (needs to have a run off election with the B &C) -> This is a difficult one,but my reasons for my opinion are stated below. ->Candidate A with 59 votes, won the election ->and B, C, & D should go for a run off election, that is unless C or/and D want to drop out of the race. ->Now you can see the power that people have when they ballot just one vote. A voter might have voted first for D and their second vote might have been for B, if so they just voted against the person they wanted to win. ->The way I see this is that with 136 ballots and 201 votes then ->Out of the 136 ballots 71 voted for one person -> 65 voted for two people ->50% of 65 is rounded to 33, therefore 71+33=104. 104x50%=52 -> Because the 2nd place finisher did not get one vote over 50% then it looks like a run off election should be held with B, C & D. -> Enjoy, -> David C. 3. Fellow Board Members... The original message that I just sent was CC'd to the Election list. If you just "Reply" it will be sent to the Election List as a {Not a Subscriber} message, we don't mind, but if you do watch the address when you reply. It wasn't intentional. Please check this one for the same problem. We will follow your lead, if has been decided that the top two in the 4 way race are elected, we will drop that one from our list of "help needed". On your other point, I would assume that in a two way race if you use "votes cast" to determine a majority only a tie could prevent one of the two from acquiring a majority. Jim

    3. Hi Fellow Board Members... The following seems like a fairly good idea to me. What do the rest of you think? Jim Hi reps! Below is a snippet from a post I sent yesterday to the CC list. Since I've gotten some private support for the idea and since there has been some ongoing discussion on how to get the USGW more publicity, I thought the board might be interested in the idea. If the Board does decide to pursue the banner idea, might I recommend that Pam Reid design them? She's done a great job with the webpage redesign; I'm sure she'd make some very nice banners. -Teresa Lindquist cc'd to Tim Stowell [big snip] Actually, I have been told that on many pages, particularly those that do not default to commercial advertising, RW flies banners for groups that it hosts, such as Kindred Konnections, Notable Women and the IBSSG. Maybe USGenWeb should devise a banner for rotation in this series. I think that would be an excellent way to get some more publicity for the Project. The various Special Projects might also want to have banners to rotate in this series. -Teresa ==========

    3. As Directed in Motion 99-21 - "Where as, no ballots where issued and will not be issued to the following regions; Northwest/Plains Region and Southeast/Mid-Atlantic Region, for the 1999 Advisory Board elections for the CC-Representatives, due to the CC-Representative races in both of these regions having only one candidate for the board seat for that region, I move that Bill Oliver, Advisory Board Secretary, be directed, by this Board to cast one vote for each of the following candidates: Northwest/Plains Region, CC Representative: Maggie Stewart-Zimmerman and Southeast/Mid-Atlantic Region, CC Representative: Teri Pettit, thus insuring they are properly elected as the bylaws require." The Secretary casts one affirmative vote for the position of NW/Plains Region CC Representative for Maggie Stewart-Zimmerman and one affirmative vote for the position of SE/Mid-Atlantic Region CC Representative for Teri Pettit. Respectfully, Bill Oliver Secretary, USGenWebProject Advisory Board

    2. jpowelljr
    3. Hi Fellow SCs and ASCs... We have one week to go before this election is over. There are a few eligible voters that we have sent ballots to in all three of our ballot mailings, that still have not recieved their ballot. This is what the Election Committee would like to do. Each SC should check one more time for voters without ballots. Then contact each one that replies and give them a code number (Code will be your state abbreviation with a number from 1 to the number of voters without ballots that you have) and this request... Copy and past the needed ballots into one email, have them mark their votes and send the Ballots to their Regional Election Volunteer and CC it to me (place "Missing Ballot Vote XX#"(use their Code number) in the subject line). Each SC should also send the Regional Election Volunteer a note with the number of votors they have conatcted about this procedure, I would appreciate a CC of these messages too. Remember to be eligible for this procedure they must have a code from you. Please make a note of who received what number. The ballots and Regional Election Committee Volunteers are listed at this URL... http://www.rootsweb.com/~mogenweb/state.htm . One change Ellen Pack's address should be epack@accessearth.net .
