    1. Re: [BOARD] Motion 2009/10-30 - Suspension of Hearings
    2. This is a motion "I move we suspend all disciplinary hearings effective immediately until after the current elections soon to be underway are over." This is discussion and opinion "This is too close to the elections enough for many to denounce the hearings as nothing more than political sham to get rid of election opponents at earliest possible time. The attempt at these hearings are now threatening to cause a good number of the CCs to leave the Project." You cannot add discussion and opinions to a motion because we cannot act on them. 3. I was under the impression that a motion was to be concise and clearly state the objective of the motion. Opinions and side comments should not be a part of a motion. My opinion differs greatly from your stated opinion as I thought the biggest threat to possibly causing the lose of good CCs were the many postings by persons involved with other projects who try to use distortions and outright lies to entice people to leave this Project and join these other projects. It is the same thing this time of year every year with basically the same themes every June and July. This shows how opinions can differ widely. 3. I can agree with this, Larry, but it does look pretty silly the way it is currently written. Like there was an extra *paste" or something. Has anyone really looked at the way it is stated? The second sentence is a repeat of the first. Is there a way to just wipe out the second sentence? Or does the motion have to be re-stated, correctly? 3. I withdraw "no discussion" and register my objection. This is not the motion I made and seconded by another AB. You altered the motion too much. Please restate the motion as written and presented originally which is very specific. I move we suspend all disciplinary hearings effective immediately until after the current elections soon to be underway are over. This is too close to the elections enough for many to denounce the hearings as nothing more than political sham to get rid of election opponents at earliest possible time. The attempt at these hearings are now threatening to cause a good number of the CCs to leave the Project. W. 3. David- In any organization in which I have participated as a member, the chair almost always summarizes or restates a motion, deleting the editoral content which the maker may have included to explain his/her reasons for making the motion. Then the membership of the organization votes on the intent of the motion, as summarized or restated by the chair. In the instant case, I believe the first paragraph of your stated motion clearly establishes what should happen if the membership votes in favor of the motion. The other material is explanatory, and is not necessary for voting on the motion. Do you agree with the above statement?
