Hi Phillipa, John BLAXALL forgot to tell you that he is in the USA (Washington area as I recall) and he has two sisters in Canada. Simon and Mary had nine children (I am descended from the youngest, Lewin Jeremiah, who appears to have married well, and died young...). Simon and Mary's second son, Frederick (born 30 Aug 1783 in Eyke), distinguished himself mainly as a poacher, but also found time to marry Mary Cole in 1807, and father seven children. Since they were born in six different villages, it seems he was a wandering soul (or at least Mary was). Their fifth child was Lewin Blaxall (born c. 1815 in Hasketon), who married Sarah Ann Hammond in November 1840 in Colchester. They had six girls: Georgina, Eleanor, Zilpher, Agnes, Laura and Julia. Eleanor was born in May 1845 in Eyke, and married James Pratt in 1868 as you know (I wasn't aware it was a Christmas Day weddding!). Eleanor's uncle - Lewin's younger brother Alfred - is buried in Little Glemham Churchyard with his wife Maria. Somewhere at the back of my mind is a family story that Alfred married a maidservant at the Great House, against the family's wishes -- but such a reaction seems a bit inappropriate given his father's disreputable history... I believe that Rachel de Lima descends from Eleanor (or perhaps one of the other five sisters), and she probably knows much more than I do about this branch of the family. Her email (in New Zealand) is stigb@paradise.net.nz I should add at this point that while the "family story" material comes from various aunts and great aunts (now all dead), nearly all the factual details above come from the extensive research undertaken by Carlton Blaxill. And I think it was Geoff Lewin Blaxall who drew my attention to newspaper reports about his grandfather's grandfather's poaching habits!
