Dear Bill, I just don't know where my Blankenship line fits in. My ancestor was Mary/Polly Blankenship, born in NC ( probably either Burke or Rutherford Co.) in about 1795. She married James Chambers in Clark County, IN in 1809. They came to Indiana from Rutherford County, NC with a large group of settlers. There were other Blankenships in the neighborhood named James, Isham, William, Lewis (or Lodowick), Josiah and Peter. Any of these men were of the correct age to be her brothers or cousins. Other females were Rhoda and Catherine. The biggest problem seems to be that the names of some of these men are the same as the names of the sons of Isham, Jr. who was in Rutherford County, NC and moved to Tennessee with his wife and family in the early 1800s, when these men were living in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. My ancestor was in Oklahoma in 1838 where she married Abraham Hilderbrand a soldier stationed at Ft. Gibson, where the Trail of Tears ended. This makes me suspect a Cherokee connection, but so far no proof, only circumstantial evidence. There must be an interesting story here, but I have yet to uncover it! Oh yes, I live in Illinois, not far from Gilbert Blankenship. Pat Torrance
Pat, Just reading your message about the Blankenship name. I have been told we have Cherokee in our Blankenship line somewhere. I just have not found it yet. My line that I can trace so far starts in Ohio>KY>Ohio>Indiana>IL., and then we are all over.
