I have a whole slew of Clay County (mostly) Blankenships who were immigrants from Georgia. I am going to attach my descendent report from my GG-Grandfather to my G-Grandfather; this info is all backed up by my cousin Freddie. I am the great grand-daughter of James Monroe Blankenship, who was postmaster of Mountain (Community), AL. He is shown as in Clay County in the censuses of 1870-1920. Richard James was the only (known) son of Solomon Blankenship (Daniel, Hudson, John B., and Ralph) and Solomon's first wife of unknown name. Solomon was also born in Henry County, GA. My line seems to have skipped right down south from Virginia to Georgia, probably following the opening of Indian lands to farmers of European descent. Some of Solomon's descendents stayed in Georgia and are there to this day. Richard moved to Clay County and was a farmer. James Monroe Blankenship was a farmer, but also the local postmaster, had a small store, and was very involved (off and on) with the Bethel Church, where he is buried: Bethel Cemetery-Buff Springs, Township 22, Range 8, Section 16, Clay County Alabama . I have been told but have not seen it myself that the house that is supposedly very near to the church. This may not help many of you, but it has spurred me on to look into getting actual photographs; I have one of James Monroe B. now, and his wife, Sararoni Francine Galloway. I also have a photo of the cemetery passed on to me by my cousin, where James and Sararoni are buried.
