I show it as Green in my master file - use that as the preference I should say as one of my sources for his name as being GREENFIELD is simply a reference to an imported file, no document source - famkiser at aol.FTW. Can't remember now if you said you had checked his birth record or not? What about military and/or death record? Surely his death record would should FULL name?? Kay

    2. EARLY DAYS IN GREENBUSH (WARREN CO IL) WITH BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF THE OLD SETTLERS BY WILLIAM L. SNAPP, Copyright, 1905. Warren Co KY. James Simmons, who was a brother of Rowland Simmons, was born in 1795. Late in the fall of 1816, he moved from Green River, Warren county, Kentucky, to Madison county, Illinois. His wife and infant son (Andrew W.) came with him. They made the entire trip on horseback. He moved to Greenbush, Warren county, Illinois, in October, 1833. He first settled about one mile south of where the village is now located. He afterwards moved east of the village on land adjoining it. He was married in Kentucky to Sarah Stice. To them were born the following-named children: Rowland M., born November 7, 1819; married Diana Stice. She died in Missouri. He was a member of the militia and, in 1843, was elected first lieutenant and commissioned by Governor Ford under Captain W. B. Blankenship, who died in the service.R.M. Simmons was then elected captain to fill the vacancy. This was the 6th company, 2nd battalion, 84th regiment Illinois militia. John C. Bond was major; John Butler, colonel; V. H. Marshall, adjutant; John McMahill, first lieutenant; Levi Hedges, orderly sergeant. They mustered three times a year company battalion; officers ’ drill, twice a year. They had three places of meeting: Greenbush, Berwick, and New Lancaster. Captain Simmons’s company was composed of 80 substantial men. He was drillmaster at officers’ drill. The regiment was called out for volunteers for the Mexican war. Wyatt B. Stapp, who was brigadier general went with the company as captain to the Mexican war. R.M. Simmons is an elder in the Old-School Predestinarian Baptist church, and has for many years devoted a great portion of his time to preaching in different localities. Andrew W., born in Kentucky, September 2, 1816; married Mary Ann Hedges, January 6, 1842. She died July 19, 1847. His second marriage was to Ascenath Brooks, March 2, 1848. She was born in Kentucky, January 7, 1825. He filled the offices of tax-collector and justice of the peace for several years in the township. He died September 12, 1887. Alfred W., born November 5, 1821; married Sarah Moulton, August 26, 1847. She was born September 18, 1829, and died May 18, 1902. Charles Riley, born December 24, 1825; married Martha Bair. She died December 13, 1884, at the age of 42 years. William Jackson, born December 30, 1827; married Sarah Holeman. He died in Gentry county, Missouri, November 4, 1884. Francis Marion, born November 10, 1823; was never married. He died at the residence of Peter Snider, his brother-in-law, in the village of Greenbush, June 24, 1891. Martin V. B., born October 5, 1839; married Hester Cunningham. He died September 29, 1877. She (lied December 4, 1887, at the age of 42 years. Nancy, born in Madison county, Illinois, February 17, 1831; married J. Woodford Ray. She died March 11, 1853. Sarah A., born January 27, 1818; married William Hiet. She died March 25, 1863. He died March 23, 1895. at the age of 78 years. Joanna, born October 11, 1842; married Isaac Holeman. She died August 22, 1901. He died May 20, 1901, at the age of 68 years. Dianna, born August 2, 1835; married Peter Snider. Arminda C., born November 14, 1837; married Benjamin F. Watt. He was born September 30, 1840, and died February 13, 1904. James Simmons died August 21, 1873. His wife died April 8, 1855, at the age of 58 years. They were members of the Old School Predestinarian Baptist church. In polities Mr. Simmons was a democrat. Counties of Morgan, Monroe and Brown, Indiana. Historical and Biographical. Charles Blanchard, Editor. Chicago: F. A. Battey & Co., Publishers, 1884. Jefferson County. DR. URIAH H. FARR was born in this county [Morgan] October 23, 1846, and is a son of Daniel C. and Susanna (Teague) Farr. Daniel C. Farr was born in Jefferson County, Ky., May 8, 1816, moved with his parents to this State in 1822, and was married in this county February 20, 1834, to Miss Susanna Teague. He afterward engaged in farming in Ray Township with success, and by industry was soon enabled to enter land until he owned 300 acres. He was father of three children, and died August 14, 1850. August 6, 1862, Dr. U. H. Farr enlisted in Company B, Seventieth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, in which he served three years, and was in the following battles: Resaca, New Hope Church, Kenesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, the Atlanta campaign, the march to the sea, Savannah and Bentonville. He was discharged June, 1865, and March 16, 1866, married Miss Sarah Blankenship, with a result of four children - Anna A., Kate E., Montana E. and Daniel B. Dr. Farr continued farming until 1874, when he began the study of medicine and attended lectures at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Indianapolis, from which he graduated in 1876. After practicing at Paragon until 1882, he removed to this town. Dr. Farr also took a course of lectures at the University of Pennsylvania, and received the ad eundem degree there from.

    2. Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, Kniffin 2nd ed., 1885 Livingston Co. J.T. CROUCH, Livingston County, was born in Casey County, Ky., in September, 1813, and is a son of George W. and Nancy (Thomas) Crouch. The father was born near Wyeth [sic] Court House, Va., and was of German descent. The mother was born in South Carolina. The father came to Kentucky about 1805, and settled first in Casey County. In 1813 he moved to Hopkins County, where he died in January, 1814. The mother continued to reside in Hopkins County until 1851, when she moved to Golconda, Ill., where she died in 1860. Subject is the youngest of four children, and is the only one now living. He remained at home until he was twenty years old. He then settled down for himself in Hopkins County, but remained there only three years, and then moved to Missouri. In that State he remained about five years. Returning to this State he settled again in Hopkins, where he remained until 1849. In that year he moved to Pope County, Ill., and made a settlement. In 1859 he came back to Kentucky and settled on a farm of 145 acres, where he has since resided. Mr. Crouch was married October 2, 1833, to Miss Sarah M. Clark, a daughter of George W. and Eunice (Franklin) Clark, natives of South Carolina. Mrs. Crouch was born January 28, 1819, and to her and her husband were born twelve children, of whom five are now living: Huldah, wife of G.B. Glass, of Bay City; Rhoda Ann, wife of David M. Metcalf, of Pope County, Ill.; Mary B., wife of Joseph Blankenship, of Livingston County; Th. P., of Eastport, Miss., and Ruth, wife of Ford Hardy. Mr. Crouch and family are members of the Old School Baptist Church. He has been identified with the Masonic fraternity

COLLINGS was born in Garrard County, Ky., a daughter of Samuel B. and Rosanna (McDonald) Jennings. To this union were born thirteen children, eight of whom are now living, viz.: Sallie A., John B. (born March 10, 1820, married February 23, 1842, to Sarah Romans, of Garrard County, Ky., daughter of William Romans; they have one child - Sallie A., who married Mr. Blankenship and had two children: Samuel and Susie. John B.'s wife died in 1871, a member of the Christian Church, of which he is also a member, and who makes his home with our subject, superintending her farm), Alexander R., William, George E. and Zerelda are twins. Our subject married, September 24, 1846, John H. Hinds, of Garrard County, Ky., who died September 23, 1865. She then married, November 8, 1868, Dr. F.B. Collings, of Spencer County, a son of Ben Collings. Dr. Collings was quite a noted physician and surgeon, and died September 30, 1883, a member of the Baptist Church. Mrs. Collings is also a member of the Baptist Church, and owns 155 acres of land.

    3. I forgot to add. I have my g grandparents marriage certificate. It gives the bride's name as Martha Blankenship d/o N.G.Blankenship and Elizabeth Armtrout. Soooo, no help with there with his middle name. My grandfather always knew his grandfather's name was Noah, but I never heard him say his middle name. I had not started genealogy on this line until after he died which was 33 years ago.     2. We're making a lot of progress thrrough the Cumberland Co records. All of these transactions were deeds between Cumberland Co citizens for land unless otherwise specified. Taken from Deed Book L, 1849 time frame. You might remember that many times deeds were not recorded immediately and the dates can vary back and forth. John BLANKENSHIP, mortgage to William E CARTER, crops John M BAKER, executor of George KING, decd, to Joel B FRAIZER James M HAWKINS, mortgage to F H WILSON & George H CARY   (WILSON & CARY firm), crops.
