    3. Bill; When we corresponded sevaral years ago, I don't think I sent you info on My Blankenships who were in Military. Thearon A. Blankenship was a S1c on USS Arizonia. he was A descendant of Hezekiah as follows: Hezekiah, son of Hudson. Married Miss Potter Daughter of Augustine Potter. Their son Joshua married Sarah Ann Pate 1819 in Morgan Co., Al.. Their son Thomas married Celia Tarver 11/8/1852 Morgan Co., Al, Son Matthew Thomas Married Harriett G. Pitts 1880 Morgan Co.Son William Matthew Married Leona Josephine Chaney 3/19/1903. Thearon was born in Morgan Co 3/20/1920. Another brother William Chester, possibly a twin was killed 8/20/1944 as a Pvt in Belgium. I am sure that there are many others, but the other Blankenship family who gave 2 sons were the sons of Augustine who died ca 1841. He left 3 sons, Hezekiah, William Harvet and Nehemiah. Hezekiah entered Confederate service in 1861 he was captured at the battle of Parkers Crossroads. We was went to Camp Douglas, Ill and eventually signed an oath of Allegiance. Returning home to Morgan Co he was hung under uncertain circumstances on August 20, 1864. He was left hanging in a tree far from any road and was not discovered for several days. William Harvey and Nehemiah joined and served together. Their original unit was Co R 40th Tenn Infantry. Both were captured at Island # 10 in the mississippi and were exchanged within a few mnths. When tey returned to service it was in Co I, 54th Ala Infantry. William Harvey took a minnie Ball through the mouth at Resacca and Nehemiah was apparently killed in the Atlanta Campaign. His last muster document is the winter before, but many records of the 54th were lost. Wm. Harvey lived in Morgan Co until 1913 leaving 10 children. I descend from Ada, the No 2 child of the second marriage. Personally I was in the Navy retiring from 24-1/2 years reserve and active time as a Supply Corps Commander. My Brother Riack was also in the Navy during vietnam, as was I and left active duty as a EN2. I have 2 nephews who were active during Desert Storm. Also one of my Daughters was in Saudi. One of the two nephews is a career Soldier. he presently is an instructor at NCO school at Ft Sill, with orders to Germany in the sprig. He is an E-7 Missile tech. 1. [BLANKENSHIP] Lines tucked away in folders
    2. Hi youall, I was going thru one of my Dad's Genealogy folders related to writing/selling the Addendum to the Col.'s Blankenship Fami. History. Many people sent their "lines", and I must confess, I threw away many before it became my time to dig into the past. Anyway, I plan to send them onto Kay since I cannot keep up with my own family One line, 1st from Halifax Co. Va then of Wilson County TN has five BLANKENSHIP lines w the following given names Plennis (1790), James Albert(1826), James Preston1853, Charley Stacy(1877), & Carl Stacy,(1901). The next is a copy of a family bible, but it appears this info is mostly in Jim's database; begins with Joel H. BLANKENSHIP being "bornd" October 4, 1792......etc.;Campbell Co. marriages of Chestina AW Blankenship..., etc. Another is just a letter from a g-g grandparents & Down...buried in Ball Play Church Cemetery in Polk, Co., TN, I also found out where my gr-gr.grandfather's sister, Aramenta Blankenship was buried....the McGuire Cememtery in Hitchens, KY! Fun. As I continue to run accross these, will advise youall before I pass them on. Will not mail these off until next week in case you want any info from them. Nancy Blankenship Brinly

    2. I show the children of William Anderson Glasscock & Lavinia Blankenship as: Martha b. abt 1849 Matilda b. abt 1850 m. ( ? ) Tardy Lowery b. abt 1853 m. Sallie Collum Nancy b. abt 1856 m. Charles C. Ray James M. b. abt 1858 m. Mallissa BLANKENSHIP (dau of Jasper Newton Blankenship and Elizabeth Rachel Littlejohn) Zilphia b. abt 1863 m. Columbus Martin William H. b. abt 1865 m. Sally Ellison Georgian b. abt 1867 Thomas b. abt 1873 I have not personally researched any of the children except James M. Wm. Anderson Glasscock was listed as 'insolvent' on the 1850 Shelby Co. and on the 1851 Talladega Co. Tax Lists. Here are some tidbits which I hope someone can elaborate upon: In a Civil War letter from W.M. Glasscock (presumed nephew of Wm. Anderson) it states that "Uncle Anderson had started home but took sick, was captured by the (confederate) cavalry, returned, and was presently under guard." In one of Martha's pension applications (Wm. Anderson's 2nd wife) it also implies that Wm. A. deserted but his service records do not indicate it. Wm. Anderson married Martha Porter in Aug. 1881. I have also seen where Thomas Glasscock (Wm. A.'s father) had married Martha Porter's mother. The Chilton Co. newspaper on 25 Oct. 1883 reported that Wm. Anderson Glasscock had shot a George Thrash a few miles east of Jemison. Mr. Thrash had been driving a wagon pulled by a team of oxen along a public road past his neighbor's (Wm. A.) house when he was shot in the head. He fell unconscious to the floor of the wagon which continued on down the road. Riding in the wagon with him were his two very young girls. A George Thrash had married Wm. A.'s niece (Ann). Mr.Thrash did recover from his wound but I have failed to find any record of Wm. A. being arrested or charged with a crime. Any comments appreciated. 3. In North Alabama(Morgan, Madison and Limestone counties) there are numerous Blankenships as early s prior to the 1830 Census. Examples are Augustine, Joshua and Hudson all sons of Hezekiah. There are others, but all seem to be descendants of Hezekiah and Miss Potter. or their cousins all descendants of the original Hudson. However, we have a third Alabama BLANKENSHIP whom we cannot positively identify. She is Lavinia BLANKENSHIP who married William Anderson GLASSCOCK in 1847 Coosa County. In the 1860 Talladega Census, a Edmund BLANKENSHIP, age 55, is enumerated with Wm. Anderson & Lavinia's family. In attempting to track land records, I find that Henry BLANKENSHIP lives very close to Thomas GLASSCOCK ( Wm. Anderson's father). I vacillate between believing Edmund and Henry are Lavinia's father. 2. Thanks Kay, Irma, and everyone who has responded to my query about Lavinia. Several have referenced the marriage of an Edmund Blankenship and a Sarah Cargile in 1822 Bibb County and have speculated that they are the parents of Lavinia. Here is what I have on this Edmund and Sarah: "May 5, 1848 Petition to sell land of Thomas Cargile, dec'd. He left three children, Micajah Cargile, Macon Co. AL, Sarah, wife of Edmund Blankenship ......." "Book 5, pg 96. 27 Jan. 1852 Sarah Blankenship died intestate, no person having appeared to apply, Letters of Administration are issued to David Ricketts, one of the principal creditors of said estate." "Book 5, pg 100. 22 Nov. 1855 List of heirs: Edmund Blankenship, the husband, and Colbert Blankenship, Demarius Blankenship, Nancy Blankenship, Nancy Robinson, the wife of J.C. Robinson,Daniel Blankenship, and Thomas Blankenship. Children of said Sarah Blankenship dec'd are all of full age. " All of the above are transcripts from Ganrud's series of Alabama Records. Also I see a marriage of an Edmund Blankenship to Mary Frances Hale 11 Mar 1852, Marshal Co. AL Since Lavinia was not named as a heir of Sarah, I doubt that these are the parents. In fact, I wonder if this Edmund is that Edmund who was son of Daniel. The "Edmund" that I have concentrated on is the "Edwin" shown on the 1830 Shelby Co. census. An Edmund patented 40 acres of land in Sec 12, Twsp 22S, Rng 1E in Shelby county on 7 Nov. 1837 If I read my maps correctly, this would have been on the banks of the Coosa River where "Shelby Shores" is presently located. I believe that this is the "E." Blankenship enumerated on the 1840 Shelby Co. census and who has a 70-80 year old male living with him ( Daniel ? ) I do not believe that this is the Edmund who married Sarah Cargile and removed to Marshal County. I will post the information that I have on the William Anderson Glasscock family in a separate message Thanks again for the responses. Ted & Joyce

    3. Hi Catherine -- I have information on your Perry Lee B. from an off-line genealogist. Perry Lee's father was Henry Washington Blankenship, son of Solomon Blankenship (which makes us fairly close kin!). Henry was born July 12, 1866 in AL (somewhere) and died September 26, 1940 in Eclectic, Elmore Co., AL. He is buried in Carolina Cem., Elmore Co., AL , lot # T 20 N, R 19 E, S 8. Henry Washington was married to Sarah Elizabeth Crowell, born Abt. 1832 in NC, and Aft. 1880. Henry and Sarah were married July 29, 1858 in Henry County, GA. Perry was one of 6 children. Perry's 1st wife was Cora Edna Graham Wilder, born ? but died November 1896. They married in Elmore County, AL, on December 27, 1888. They had 5 children. Perry then married Mattie Ophelia Wilder, b. ? but died February 04, 1903, perhaps in Elmore or Coosa County. They married on December 09, 1900 in Coosa County. With Mattie, Perry had your father Joseph Andrew and another child, Mattie Eulala Blankenship, born December 29, 1902, probably in Elmore or Coosa County, AL.. Finally, Perry married Roxie Lynch (b. and d. dates unknown) in Elmore County, on December 27, 1908. I have only 1 child listed for them, Roy S. Blankenship born in December of 1909. Hope this helps. It's a lot to digest, I know, but this Blankenship researcher is pretty through. Pat Blankenship, Chambers County, AL At 12:23 AM 1/28/2003, you wrote: >Hello out here! 3. Hi, Ted & Joyce, In my records I have that the parent of your Lavinia is EDMUND. This Edmund married Sarah Cargill in Bibb County, Alabama on January 22, 1822. On the 1850 Marshall County, Alabama Census, Subdivision 23, page 227, #269/269 is: BLANKINSHIP, Edmond 56 Farmer 400 GA Sarah 56 GA Daniel 20 Farmer AL Thomas 16 Farmer AL Eliza 7 AL According to Madge Petit in her book, FAMILIES OF GENERY'S GAP, ALABAMA she states: "In 1830, there were seven Blankenship families in Shelby County. They were: Edmund - s/o/ Daniel. In 1840 Daniel was living with Edmund A lot of her information is wrong because it was taken from the memory of her mother, but quite a bit of it is correct, so you make your choice. I'm sure you know that Lavina BLANKENSHIP and William Anderson Glasscock moved to what is now Chilton County, Alabama where William died aft August 28, 1881 when he remarried to Martha Ann PORTER in Chilton County, Alabama. Lavinia is on the 1880 Chilton County, Alabama Census at Mims Cross Road so if this is the same William A. Glasscock who married Martha Ann Porter, Lavinia died between 1880 and 8-28-1881. William is buried at Old Green Cemetery, Chilton County according to Ben Roberts in YOURS, MINE AND THEIRS. He does not have a tombstone. There are 92 unmarked graves in this cemetery. I think that the Chilton County BLANKENSHIPS descend from Daniel, but so far have no direct proof. There are 22 marked BLANKENSHIP graves in Chilton County as listed in CEMETERIES OF CHILTON. I have more information on the children of William Anderson Glasscock and Lavinia Blankenship if you need it. Irma J.
