    1. [BLANKENSHIP] LISTOWNER MESSAGE
    2. Hi Everyone - Just a note to let you know I will be 'scarce' during the next week or two. I've somehow managed to lose all my files off my computer and my most recent backup file is corrupted? Sooooooo I'm having to go back and reconstruct a LOT of work that I had done recently in my FTM on some other lines - not to mention having lost my most recent copy of the BLANKENSHIP master file which had some interesting theories worked out. Luckily, this I have on paper as I've now lined a wall with a piece of butcher paper and the B-Family all mapped out ... the number of cross-relationships amaze me. I knew there was a bunch of them but had NO IDEA as many as there are! I will be reading posts and keeping up with the list, just not posting much - keep up the great work. k

    3. Hi I was re reading some old material and had a letter some one had sent me some years ago that at the time seemed un related to The William BUCK b.1790, son Barnett b. 1810 and his son Henry b. 1836. This letter had a William with son Barnett b. abt 1819 (error) who married a Sarah Isom abt 1867. She was born June 1840 30 years younger than Barnett. In some record in Pike Co. I had found that Barnett married a Sarah Hilton in abt 1867, I hadn't put together until now that Sarah Hilton and Sarah Isom were one and the same. Wonder if anyone has any comments on this? Sarah Isom was born in Gladeville,Wise Co. Va the daughter of Edmond Isom and Cassie Huff. Bob

    3. Hi Bob Blankenship of Tacoma, I was there a year ago and the battle field and Lookout Mt and went to Old Stone Church (Chickamauga Presbyterian Church) where one of my Cotter kin was a minister and his father a founder of that area and is buried with his family there. My great grandmothers brother was a minister to Union and Confederates dying at the church that had become a hospital. You can still see the stains of the blood on the plank floors. The monument at the battle grounds is so over whelming to think of men fighting in such a battle. Southern stop, Sherman there for several Months and one of my Confederate Great grandfathers was in those battles. as part of The Arkansas groups. He left a lot of children and a wife who needed him. I have thought about that a lot and to me this is proof that this war wasn't necessarily about slavery as others want to believe, but about a way of life for the south and they feared oppression by the north and as it turned out after in the years immediately following, their fears were justified. I just finished reading, Mountains on Fire, about Chattanooga/Chickamauga. This important battle that allowed the north to gain access to the south was not won by any military superiority, but rather by the ineptness or poor judgement of some generals and shrewness of other generals. Read this book if you haven't. It is interesting. 3. Dear Don and Betty, I have a feeling you have talked to Lorene Blankenship Sherrill there in Sylacauga. She is my 2nd cousin and we started many years ago working on the Blankenships. We live in West Palm Beach, FL but I'm originally from Eclectic in Elmore County. We own the homeplace up there in Eclectic and go up often. I am descended from Reuben through his son John B. also but through his son William Henry, John Stevens (J.W.), James Silas, Ruby Inez, and me Ludd Anderson (Andy) Lanier, Jr. James Silas and Lorene's grandfather Benjamin Harrison were brothers. I was so involved with other things when the marker was placed on Reubens grave that I didn't come up for the ceremony. After being chastized by so many people up there for not coming that I resolved never to miss something that important again. I'm still kicking myself for this. Have you visited the log cabin there near Weogufka? We were there last June for another visit with Fred Blankenship from Alexander City and two other cousens who had never seen it. I'm sure you know Fred with his unbelievable data base on Blankenships of Alabama. We were supposed to spend two months up there back in the Fall but I got called out of retirement to straighten up the school where I retired as Principal in 2000 and my replacement had nearly ruined. We hope to get up in the Spring for two weeks rather than the two months we had planned. Would love to get together sometime in the future and shoot the breeze like only Blankenships can do, unless it's Laniers. Thanks for writing and I look forward to hearing from you again. 3. Andy, My sister and I hope to visit Coosa Co this summer. Where is the cabin located as we definately want to visit that. I am sure that is a wonderful feeling to be able to visit there and know they lived there for a part of their lives. I feel the same when I pull them up on the census record and in someones handwriting see their names, ages, children, occupation, etc. knowing that they told this person all of this info, who wrote it down, and now I am looking at it. It makes them seem closer. Is that stupid or what. Ha. glad to know someone else gets that way when around any thing from our family's past. I was in awe when I went to Missionary Ridge and tried to walk up it on a beautiful sunny day with no one firing at me. I could imagine the horror that Reuben Buck and Wm. Henry went thru that day. I guess they were lucky they were captured and not killed.
