    2. Regina
    3. Hello Pat, My name is Regina and I am looking for my great grandfather William Blankenship, My grandma claimed that her father was Cherokee Indian. I am unable to find who his parents were or any siblings. He was born either in 1873 or 1876. I think it was 1876 because I did find him on the 1900 and 1910 census for Bowie co. TX and according to his age and the census year that would have put him being born in 1876. Although on his tomb stone it reads 1873. He died in 1932 in Bradley, AR. Lafayette co. buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery. He was married to Rosa E. Franks. They had at least 13 children some died early in life. Some of the children were born in OK and some in TX and AR. But apparently they moved from TX, AR and OK and LA. They had 4 boys a set of twins that died after a few days of birth that are buried in Walnut hill a son named Charles Delmer Blankenship that died in 1944 in France during WW2 and another son named James Edward Blankenship that married Nettie Cook. There were the girls, Della who married a Ben Bingle, a daughter Rachel who died young, a daughter named Mary do not know much about her she died by 1920 I would say, my grandma only knew of her sister. Another daughter Ellen who married a Rube Worren, a daughter Elizabeth who married a Albert Penny, a daughter Mable who married 1st a Luscious Wyatt and then Elmer Cook. my grandma Thelma Georgia Blankenship, married Earl McConnell, I do not have much info to give me more clues where to look. I just that I would post to see if anyone thought they might have heard of any of my family. I assume we all come from Ralph and then split in different directions from there. My line starts here in Texas and then goes back to Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Illinois. I'm guessing that I may not be too proud of old Thomas J. when I find him. After his wife Nancy (Dodson) died around 1870, he left their son with her parents and disappeared into the sunset. At least he could have been good enough to leave me a clue as to who his parents were (ha ha). 3. Pat, Thank you very much for your help. I will follow up on these leads. Perhaps this will help break down that wall I have been stuck at. I read these postings every night, so if I come across anything you need that I have, I will hotshot it to you. Thanks once again. Paul

    3. Dear Bill, I just don't know where my Blankenship line fits in. My ancestor was Mary/Polly Blankenship, born in NC ( probably either Burke or Rutherford Co.) in about 1795. She married James Chambers in Clark County, IN in 1809. They came to Indiana from Rutherford County, NC with a large group of settlers. There were other Blankenships in the neighborhood named James, Isham, William, Lewis (or Lodowick), Josiah and Peter. Any of these men were of the correct age to be her brothers or cousins. Other females were Rhoda and Catherine. The biggest problem seems to be that the names of some of these men are the same as the names of the sons of Isham, Jr. who was in Rutherford County, NC and moved to Tennessee with his wife and family in the early 1800s, when these men were living in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. My ancestor was in Oklahoma in 1838 where she married Abraham Hilderbrand a soldier stationed at Ft. Gibson, where the Trail of Tears ended. This makes me suspect a Cherokee connection, but so far no proof, only circumstantial evidence. There must be an interesting story here, but I have yet to uncover it! Oh yes, I live in Illinois, not far from Gilbert Blankenship. Pat Torrance

    3. Dear Paul, Maybe this will be of interest to you. Gilbert Blankenship lives near Newark, Illinois and his phone number is 815-695-5050. I telephoned him a few years ago to see if he knew who his ancestors were. He knew very little about his name -- his sisters always told him he was named after their favorite cat. His family once lived in Jefferson, Marion and/or Clinton Counties. His father was William and his mother was Amanda Alvis or perhaps Lydia Byers. He was uncertain about much of it, but he mentioned a Rebecca from Allen County, KY and some places in Illinois where his Blankenship relatives once lived; Eureka, Salem, Texaco, Mt. Vernon, Centralia. Other names were Howard, Luther, Spencer and Ellis. If any of these names rings a bell, you might want to call him. Also, I have corresponded with Becky McPeak, RR4, Box 304 Louisville, IL 62858-9205. She has researched the family of William S. Blankenship and others in Vermilion and Clay Counties. Although she has an Isham in her line, it does not appear to be the line that also contains Gilbert. Her Isham, like mine, is from Southern Indiana and has not been connected to any of the others. That search continues. Pat Torrance
