    1. [BLANKENSHIP] Public Meeting - Burlington 1863
    2. -----Original Message----- From: Kathy918@aol.com [mailto:Kathy918@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, October 22, 2000 12:35 PM To: NJBURLIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NJBurlin] Public Meeting 1863 (long list of names) Hello, >From the Burlington Gazette March 14, 1863 PUBLIC MEETING A National Union League Whereas, a dangerous and unjustifiable rebellion is now organized for the purpose of destroying the nation; and whereas the work of treason is not confined to the districts which have been declared by the President to be in a state of rebellion, but is now desecrating the soil and tarnishing the fame of New Jersey; and whereas we believe it the duty of all good citizens to support, to the extent of their ability, the Government in its efforts to suppress the rebellion; to prevent sedition and to preserve the nation; and whereas many of us are not able to render such support by military service in the field, yet earnestly desire to strengthen the hands of those who have gone forth to risk their lives for our common inheritance; and whereas we cannot more effectually do this than by frequently confering together, circulating among the people important facts and documents, which too many of them now seldom or never see and by properly taking note of disloyal sympathizers with rebellion at home. THEREFORE, the undersigned Citizens of Burlington and vicinity, without regard to past party associations, and with the single view to carry out the objects above mentioned, invite their fellow citizens who approve of the formation of a National Union League in this City, to meet at the CITY HALL on MONDAY EVENING, March 16, at 7 1-2 o'clock to take the necessary steps to that end. 1. [BLANKENSHIP] Jane Blankenship
    2. Greetings fellow listers. I came across a possible relative as I was researching my line of BLANKENSHIPS in Dallas Co., Missouri. The "Dallas County Register of Deaths 1883-1904" lists a Jane BLANKENSHIP. Her death date is March 21, 1888. Her age is listed as 85 years, 5 months, 20 days, which would make her birthdate Oct. 1, 1803, assuming my math is right. Her residence at time of death is shown as Jasper township, Dallas Co., MO. Can any of you put this lady "in context"? In other words, do you know who she is, where she came from and who she's related to? She's old enough to be the mother or an aunt of my William (b. ca 1818, d. 1853) but I have no known link to her. By the way, her cause of death is shown as "anasarica". Do any of you know what this is? Clutching at straws... - Mark Krudwig

    3. I do thank Mike for correcting my correction of the first entry of Ralph's surname in the records. A lesson for all us researchers.... go for the original. Sorry to lead you all astray. Gayle Blankenship Hi Gayle... Hate to correct you, but the first reference to Ralph Blankship appears April 1, 1690, Henrico Order Book 1678-1693, page 326. I have copies of the original, and of the handwritten copy made during the Revolutionary period. The entry reads: Upon the peticon of Rich'd Kennon these may certify that there is due unto him eight thousand acres of land for ye inportacon of ninety servts. into this colony whose names are under written & for seventy persons more being negroes, the same being legally prov'd by his oath in open court. The name Richard Blankship appears as the 68th name on a list of 90 persons.
