Hi guys, Its been a while since I submitted any requests, so I figured I would give it another try. I am looking for anyone who is researching BLANKENSHIP's of Texas County, Missouri and surrounding areas. At this point, I am looking for decedents and their descendants and so forth ......... Misty Wright http://communities.msn.com/BlankenshipGenealogy (Researching: Adkins (Shannon CO,Texas Co, MO, Finally, Riverside Co, CA), Blankenship (Texas CO, MO), Bradley (NC then Fulton, CO, AR), Caste/Easte (Crawford and Dent Co, MO), Gatewood (Fayette CO,IL then to MO), Madison (Jackson CO, MO), Matherson, McCaslin, Montgomery (Izard CO/Fulton CO,AR), Moore (Fulton CO, AR), Neal (Fulton CO, AR), Smith (MS then Dent CO, Mo then Texas Co, MO) Stricklin (Crawford Co, MO then Dent CO, MO)
Raven: Not sure of the Irish spelling but Colonel Blankenship in his book stated he knew of 31 spellings. When we went to England and to Haltwhistle which he mentioned in his book, we saw theBlenkensop spelling. Colonel speaks of the English and American spellings but says nothing of the Irish. It seems that both Sop and Ship are corruptions of "hope" so Blenken's hope became Blenkinsop and Blankinship. Hope someone comes up with something to add to this. Nolene
I am a mind reader....ha. That would be lovely. Saunders is also a common Catawba name....your mother will deny it, as my gaunt did! What she looks like will tell the tale. All Catawba women were very beautiful and tall. Sounds like you hit a gold mine anyway, pictures are worth...priceless. My gggrandmother is in a book with her family at FC library. You might want to check it out...The Children of the Misty Mountain...they have the only copy. Lots of pictures! Happy New Year! The Blankensop (Blankinsop) family in Brooke Co. WV started with John (born 1814) and his brother Peter who came in 1825. They were glass blowers and settled in Wellsburg WV in 1827. As late as 1880 they used the spelling Blankensop/Blankinsop and Blankersop, and I believe they used it later as well ( I didn't make a notation as to the spelling when I read the 1910 census. Also I found the following: 1910 Grant Co. WV Lawson Bleukinsopp age 44 b. England = 1910 Cook Co. IL Richard Blenkinsopp age 23 b. England = 1910 Cook Co. IL Thomas H. Blenkinsop age 46 b. Canada = Mercer Co. IL 1910 Ellen Blenkinsopp 84 b. England = 1910 KS Crawford Co. James Blankensop age 45 b. England = 1910 Crawford Co. KS John Blenkinsap age 20 b. France. There probably are others - these are the ones I found.
Thanks for all the information provided. I really do not have much as of yet. All the information I have is on the Blankinsop's that are still living. This is what I do have; Arch Blankinsop, b. ??? d. ??? Married Jane Moore. I believe they lived in Washington, PA. They had a son by the name of Charles Blankinsop, b.25 Jul 1903 d. 27 Aug 1965. Charles Married Lulu Louise Poland. Charles Blankinsop and Lulu had the following children in Washington, PA; 1. Charles Blankinsop, JR (Died at Birth) 2. Robert Lee Blankinsop b. 11 Jun 1931 (My Grandfather) 3. Raymond Blankinsop b. 27 Mar 1934 d. Nov 1987 4. Jane Blankinsop 5. Fay Blankinsop 6. Kay Blankinsop My Grandfather, Robert Lee Blankinsop married Norma Jean Grimm in Wakeman, Ohio. They had the following children; 1. Susan Blankinsop 2. John Blankinsop 3. David Blankinsop (My Father) 4. Nancy Blankinsop 5. William Blankinsop 6. Donald Blankinsop -I am trying to research Arch Blankinsop and his Ancestors, but I am still a Novice and have lots to learn on researching my family tree. If anyone has any further information, I would like me to supply any information, just let me know. Other Blankenship families lived in the same area at the time, although no proof exists to connect them, the dates make him a good fit to be a brother, in spite of the different spelling. kay, the corrected url will not work for me What future does one have if he has no past to learn from
Hi David, the only reference to that spelling is from Ralph Blankensop or etc. He was the 1st Immigrant in this country, and all of our starting points. Also search Rootsweb.com and Ancestry.com for specific names you might have in your line. You are the first person on this list I have seen with his/her name spelled that way. There is still a lot of controversy on the subject, since record takers etc. were poor spellers...mostly they spelled names on how they sounded at the time. Several people on this list can help with many names, so if you could list your queries specifically, I'm sure they will help. Dates & Places of birth and spouses help immensely. Hi David - there are so many variations and I expect that what we will eventually find is that all these lines are connected back when they either first came to the States or earlier. My personal experience has been that names were "Americanized" for various purposes - sometimes to distinguish one brothers family from another ... I know in one case I have an English family that started out with "Del" in front of the name and when one brother came to the US and became distinguished in the Union Army as well as in government, he changed the name and deleted the Del ... Please keep us informed as you find any information linking your family to the "Blankenship" family ... Thanks, Kay
Bill are the Hughes your looking for outof Missouri?I have a complete line on Hughes from around Thornfield Mo.and other places in Mo. Carla forevy5564@aol.com
David - You didn't say where your family lived but it is possible that you are related to a small group who came to America at a different time than Ralph. I have seen several in the census records - plus the group in Brooke Co. WV who did spell their name Blankensop. I can't give you names of others off the top of my head but it seems that one was from Canada. Betty Carson
