NEW ENGLANDERS IN NOVA SCOTIA --- An Historic Sketch of Their Ancestry and Their Settlement, First in New England States and Later in Nova Scotia, Locating in Yarmouth, Shelburne and Other Counties --- No. 41 BLANCHARD Deacon John (1) Blanchard lived in Dunstable which was in Massachusetts until 1741, when a revision of the Province line transferred the greater part of the original grant to New Hampshire, where to-day it is the most densely settled part of the city of Nashua. It has been stated in print that Dea. John Blanchard of Dunstable, was the son of Thomas Blanchard, an American ancestor of a numerous family of Braintree and Charlestown, Mass. Evidence recently discovered by Mr. Stearns, author of "Founders of Old Dunstables" and others, established the fact that Dea. John was a son of 'widow' Ann Blanchard, who died in Chelmsford, Mass, June 24, 1662. It is thought that William Blanchard of Boston, the tailor, was a brother of Dea. John and that they were probably nephews of Thomas. Dea. John Blanchard married about 1657, Elizabeth Hill, b.1627, daughter of Joseph Hill of Malden, Essex Co., England, and Charlestown, Mass., by his first wife (he had four) Rose Clarke. The 500 acres of land in Dunstable, which was granted to Joseph Hill, is in his will, bequeathed to his granddaughters, Hanah and Elizabeth Blanchard of Dunstable. Elizabeth, wife of Dea. John Blanchard, died about 1662, and he m. (2) Hannah (Brackett), b. in Braintree, Mass., in 1634, daughter of Dea. Richard and Alice ( --- ) Brackett, and widow of Samuel Kingsley. His widow Hannah, her daughter Elizabeth (Kingsley) Cummings, her son Nathaniel Blanchard and his wife Lydia, and their daughter Susanna, were all slain at Dunstable by the Indians, July 3, 1706. * * * * * * Capt.
