Bonjour, RE; the NYGBS Hartman Papers... < c. The results of any 'photocopying, scanning, digitizing, indexing, etc.' will remain in the library and not be distributed or disseminated in any way.> I wonder what the purpose of that Society is? It seems to me from your comments that they are not as interested in disseminating genealogical info as they are in being the sole guardian of same. If our BLANCHARD group will be involved in the organization and indexing of these papers, I feel strongly that the ban on photocopying the materials is not appropriate. Why would any group interested in genealogy be not willing to share copies of the primary and secondary materials in their care with descendants of the subject of the donated research papers? I just don't understand. >From my read of you comment above, I take it that they would not ever provide to BLANCHARD descendants copies of any index produced nor any documents, even for the usual fees associated with this service offered by all other like societies. That seems difficult to comprehend, if true. Perhaps, the officers of the society are planning on publishing the contents of the boxes..... Just my thoughts on the subject. I don't want to ruffle any feathers there, but I think some negotiating is in order before this enormous task of preparing these Hartman papers for researchers is begun. Albert Belanger
