Hi Carolyn and other interested members - Several years ago, I discovered this community on a map and came within a few miles of it on our way to meet some friends for a wilderness canoe trip on the upper Penobscot River. We didn't have time to make the short detour to see the village or I would have had the answer to your questions. According to the U.S. Gazetteer (U.S. Census Bureau) web page, this is an 'unorganized' community and the 1990 census showed 78 inhabitants. I just posted a query to the Piscataquis Co., ME GenWeb Page (Blanchard is about 10 miles from the border with Somerset Co.) to inquire about the founders or early settlers and will report to the list when I get a response.
