All members should know about our new Boards at GenConnect and I hope you have had a chance to use them. New members have been notified in the Greetings/Guidelines message that they received from me and others in posts to the List on 21 Dec 1998 and 4 Jan 1999. I recently added 'tag lines' to the messages distributed on our List by RootsWeb. These were made available to the Lists, some time ago to allow list owners/managers to include reminders about list operation, addresses, admin. procedures and, if so desired, subtle promotions for RootsWeb. I have hesitated to use these 'tag lines' since I believed they were not necessary and just took up space in everyone's mailbox and in the Archives. Based on the recent concerns for the future of RootsWeb and 'free access to genealogical records on the Internet', I decided to try some 'tag lines' and intended to wait until we had cycled through all 10 tags (that is the number that must be submitted for the system to work) before announcing them. As you will see, my thought was to use the tags to remind members about some of our BLANCHARD-L web sites, to show the various services that are offered by RootsWeb and a couple of 'less subtle' tags that give sites for information about what RootsWeb is all about and how to become a RootsWeb supporter. If you have any comments about these 'tag lines', please direct them to my personal mailbox. By the way, you will find it easier to copy/paste the URLs into your browser, especially the longer ones.
