Hi All, Received the following letter from Pat Blanchard Curry which contain her responses to your posts on this list. Am quoting her entire letter here because she has mentioned a few things that everyone should be aware of. Sorry it has taken so long to get her letter popsted to the list. She sent it to me on floppy disk and I had a time getting it to come up on my computer since we do not use the same word processing program. Will try to get this on the list in two separate postings. This is Part I. Dear Tom, I have been slow to send you this next group of comments, etc. on various Blanchard's because I also have been in a trau- matic state. My mother, ae 91, died here on Feb 8 & although it had been anticipated the actual reality has proved to be another whole dimension. Her services were held in Southern Calif. and there were all the technicalities to deal with as well as all of her possessions to distribute according to her wishes [a task still uncompleted...]. As a test I sent data I had on the "Joseph" & Anne line of Blanchard's to Fletcher. He called on 7 Feb & said he was able to read the file on a Desktop publ. program and said he'll be conferring with others to see how the outline might best be distributed. I plan to send data on desc of Thomas later. Perhaps there could be entries for documented corrections & additions to the lineages so that updated versions can be made periodically. Meanwhile we have loads of Blanchard's sitting in the misc. category, some of whom probably can be placed easily via further research of local sources... I have noted that a number of Blanchard seekers are accumulating data from the "easy" sources rather than delving into original records such as town books, deeds & probates. This latter group of sources is most valuable in resolving discrepancies in the data as well as iden tifying or locating desc. As you requested I am sending this letter to you in hard copy as well as on disk. Hopefully you will be able to read the disk via a Desktop publ. program and can easily add the data on the rootsweb circuit... In addition I am including a repeat of part of my earlier response along with a suggested index to it in order to make it available to interested parties... I will be continuing to study the rest of the data in the last two mailings to see if there is anything of a constructive nature I can add... Sincerely, Pat Further responses to Rootsweb data Nov/Dec 1997 & Jan/Feb 1998: by snail-mail researcher Pat Blanchard Curry, 3414 Fleetwood Dr Richmond, CA 94803-2012 --To John Chandler, John Tuttle & others -Re 1758 marriage in Brookfield, MA of SARAH Blanchard to Benj. MERRITT. The marriage is also rec. in Sudbury, Mdsx, MA so it is possible that more can be learned about this Merritt couple in Sudbury VR. Known Blanchard's living near Brookfield at this date were a James [b c1723] who arrived in Charlton, MA near the Brookfield line c1745 & owned land in both towns + Josiah Blanchard Jr [b 1733] who was in Charlton, MA at least by 1763 [& is a known desc. in the "Joseph" Blanchard line]. Proximity suggests that this James & Josiah Jr. might be brothers; thus consider that Sarah might be a previously unknown sister of Josiah Jr. ***************** To tsinth@BIX.com [Cynthia] Re Jean/John Blanchard of Eliza- bethtown, NJ and desc. CHARLES [b 1780/90] of the 1830 census in Peru, Clinton Co., NY He is probably the son of Peter & Martha (Brock) Blanchard & from Pens. Appl. records he was a known res. of Peru, NY in 1850. [The widow Martha lived in Peru 1840 with another son, Alexander.] There is much uncertainty about the ident. of the seven children indicated by his census... Re WILLIAM BLANCHARD --Ancestry: "From Hesse, Germany" -- mentioned as a family tradi- tion by some desc. in Crandall's book. Still unproven & wait- ing for research of German records by an enthusiastic young desc.... --Ancestry: Possibly a MOSES Blanchard who arrived from France on 12 Jun 1679. Crandall says this data was in a Family Bible owned by a desc. of Theophilus Blanchard... Has anyone found traces of this early Moses? --Wife or wives of William: It is known that William & Jane (Steere) Blanchard had the son Timothy. It is also known that the William who died after 1755 had sons Moses, Theophilus and William. It is very possible that Jane Steere was not the mother of these last 3 sons. It would be good if a documented trace of Jane is found independently of the Steere Geneal. [She seems not to have been mentioned in her father's probate] --Crandall included a notation that in 1720 the Providence, RI town council had served a Warrant on William Blanchard assuming this was William of this line. However it is known from Hart- ford, CT deeds that a William & Sarah (Coles) Blanchard were in Providence, RI at this time. The warrant would have been the standard "warning out of town" served on new arrivals who might not be self-sufficient. -->Will exchange data re the William of RI and the various early William's of Hartford, CT. Co., NY in 1855 & later [in spite of the numerous inaccuracies in ages given in the state census'.] Note that the US census data is more consistent. It would be almost inconceivable to think there were two different Charles' & Mary's who had a similar list of children born in the same order. -There is no room in the census data for a son George [c1824- ] -Origen of Charles: Consider Newell/Noel Blanchard who was in Chittenden Co., VT by 1840 & also had a son Amos.. -Would like further corresp. re desc. of Charles & Mary via snail-mail for exchange of data... ****************** To Blanchard researchers Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario --Re a PETER BLANCHARD, b 30 Dec 1739, Annapolis Royal, Acadia, NS to CHARLES & Madeline (Girouard) Blanchard. If George really was b in Clinton Co., NY [Known from a state census or family tradition??] & if this William might actually have been born in RI rather than "NY", we have to consider that both might be desc. of Peter & Martha (Brock) Blanchard of Clinton Co. rec.
