    3. Repeat of some of my previous data entered by you on 20 & 21 Jan 1998 with an added index Re ancestry of MOULTON BLANCHARD [1784-1868] - possibility that his father might be a JOSEPH Blanchard who may or may not have married a Miss ____ Moulton. [Moulton was b MA or NH; known to have married in VT before settling in NY. Moulton's brother James, b c1795/96, MA or NY] A good candidate suggested by John Chandler: --JOSEPH [b 1761, Charlton, MA; son of James & Hannah]; his wife is unknown; served in Rev War [1780]; may be listed Brookfield, MA in 1790 with a son b 1774/90. Not ident. after 1790. --Note a JOSEPH, b before 1765, listed with "wife" & 3 younger females in 1810 St. Lawrence Co., NY [Would like to know who this man is.] --If Joseph did not marry a Miss Moulton, consider JOSEPH [b 1756, son of Samuel; desc. of Nathaniel]; known res of Stoughton, MA [1774]; of Mansfield, MA [1775]; wife was Salome Wellman; they supposedly went to Colerain [in present Franklin Co.], MA; left traces in Cheshire Co., NH deed [1781]; in Jamaica, Windham, VT [1785-1796]. Their known child was an Asa b 1775, MA; however the 1790 census shows 3 other sons, b 1774/90 & possibly 2 daughters. One of the sons might be Moulton, but until we can locate the family in MA or NY c1795/6 we can't account for a son James. [On the bright side, census data can be woefully imprecise & James seems to be very uncer- tain where he was born according to his various census state- ments.] --For John Chandler's consideration: -JOSEPH [b 1762, RI] was a gr-grandson of the William of RI; he went to area of present Luzerne Co., PA; served in the Rev. War there; later settled in NY. His known children [b 1793-1820] unfortunately did not include a James. -JOSEPH [b 1765] & later of Lewiston, ME is the man who m Hannah Mooar [see her widow's Rev War Pens. Appl.] lablanchard@classic.msn.com "Lou Ann Blanchard" --STILLMAN R. BLANCHARD [1847- ]: son of Barnard & Harriet (Fuller) Blanchard; desc. of ["Joseph"] & Ann. Married 1877 to Julana Bower of NY. --STILLMAN BLANCHARD [1813- ], son of Benj. & Patty (Rowe), is the grandson of MOSES & Azuba (Blodgett); desc. of George-2 Blanchard. Note: Benjamin [1786-1869], son of Abel of Peacham, VT, did not have a son Stillman... --STILLMAN BLANCHARD [b c1796/8- ], possibly a son of BRYANT & Mary Blanchard of various locations in Rutland Co., VT; and possibly a desc. of George Blanchard. This Stillman settled in Lenawee Co., MI. [More data needed on desc. of Bryant & this Stillman] ******************* To: RBB413@aol.com ["Ron"] & others Re ancestry of THOMAS BLANCHARD [1788-1864], the inventor. --His obit. in NEHG Reg. v18:pp296-7 names parents [Samuel & Susannah (Tenney) Blanchard] & grandparents [Joseph & Abigail (Brewer) Blanchard]. Joseph [b 1713] ident. as son of Thomas [b 1687/88] in Worcester Co. deeds & Littleton VR. This Thomas ident. as son of Joseph & grandson of George in George's pro- bate & other sources. [Thus: Thomas-7, Samuel-6, Joseph-5, Thomas-4, Joseph-3, George-2, Thomas-1] Note: Thomas-4 also had a son Thomas [possibly b 1725/30 but not recorded in Littleton]; proved by 1784 Worcester Co. deed of Joseph-5. --Joseph-5 & Abigail's children included John [c1744], Samuel [1749], Joseph [1751], Abigail [1754], Ann [1756], Thomas [b possibly c1760], a daughter [c1762]. --Re Samuel-6: The Tenney family history publ. 1904 names Abigail Tenney's parents, claims she was b in Sutton & names all 9 children of Samuel & Abigail including Abiathar. --Re Thomas-7, b 1788: Born "21 Jun", Sutton [Tenney fam. hist.] or "23 Jun", Oxford [per obit.] or "24 Jun", Oxford Gore [per Benedict & Tracy's History of Sutton]. ***************** To JCHBN... [John Chandler] Re John Blanchard of 1790 & 1800 Concord, NH: He was b 1737, Andover, MA & d 1823, Concord, NH & is a desc. of Samuel-2; he M1 Eleanor Stevens; children include Joseph, John, Stevens, Sarah, David & Moses. [1790 household incl. his last 2 sons] To John Chandler, Ranald Blanchard, et al.. Re 2 of the children of Samuel-4 (John-3 Sam-2 Thomas-1) - Martha & Nathaniel, b 1757: My theory is that both are correct & might have been twins even though Martha is listed only in the Billerica birth rec. & Nathaniel is listed only in the baptism records [& as the son of Samuel & Mary]. The non-duplication of these 2 in Billerica might be ascribed to clerical error or confusion by the transcribers of the original sources. My theory is based on "MA Soldiers & Sailors in the Rev..." and on the Rev. War Pension Appl. W16849. Nathaniel served in various Billerica militia units from 1775-1777 & in May 1777, as a res of Billerica, he enl. for 3 years with the Continental Army. He was "ae 62" in Sep 1820 [b c1758] which "fits" the bapt. of Samuel's son. Also no other Nath. of this age is found in Billerica sources. He was stationed near Woodbury, CT when he marr. Eunice Root in 1779 & is recorded there in 1790, 1800 census' after which they moved to NY. Records for this family are in Tompkins & Tioga Co's, NY. Nine of a possible 11 children are identified. ****************** To caaron@MNSi.Net ["Carole Schauber"], J. Chandler & others Re Amos Blanchard, of Andover, MA; teacher: --Amos [1766, Andover--d 1842, Lynn]; son of Daniel & Jerusha (Eaton) Blanchard; m Lavina Hopkins; 12 children known, b MA & NH; musician; teacher in Andover & Lynn, MA as well as in NH. --Amos [b 1773] had siblings Joshua through Lydia [as given by J. Chandler]; however this Amos [ who m Eliz. Jenkins] was born in Wilton, NH; d 1847, Andover, MA; was a bank cashier in Andover, MA [not a teacher]. --Amos [b 1798, Hartford, NY or Elizabethtown, CND], son of John S. & Abigail (Wait) Blanchard; supposedly never married; and supposedly it was his home in Andover, MA which was later used by the Andover Hist. Soc. [according to McChesney's "A Hugenot Family in America" which has many errata!!] ******** To J. Chandler & others -- re some early NATHANIEL BLANCHARD's: --NATHANIEL [b 1755/74 per combined 1790,1800 census]; m 1792 Sarah BUTTERFIELD; res Dunstable, NH at least to Nov 1801 deed] Sons incl. Simeon Butterfield [1792], Nathaniel [1796], Jonathan Cummings [1798], Isaac [1801]. This family does not quite fit any of 1810--> Dunstable Nath's. -->Suggest as theory: This Nath. was b c1758/59 to Nathaniel & Elizabeth (Rolfe) Blanchard of "Mile Slip", Hillsb., NH [per the father's 1766+ probate] & thus would be Nathaniel-6 in the line of "Joseph-1". His son Jonathan Cummings could have been named after the husband of his Aunt Elizabeth... --Does anyone know where this Nath. & Sarah died or more about their children? Son Simeon B. seems to have gone to Groton, MA & married there. Did son Nathaniel marry Alice BLANEY & live in Lynn/Swampscott, Essex Co., MA? Is anything known about sons Jonathan C. & Isaac? -NATHANIEL [bp 1769, Roxbury, MA], son of Nath. & Elizabeth (Perry) Blanchard. Theory is they are desc. of Nathaniel-2 of Weynouth, MA [& of Thomas-1]. The father [Nath. Sr.] was probably b 1734 in Braintree, MA. The son [bp 1769] may be in Boston, MA by 1794; M1: Abigail Curtin & M2: Mary Kendall; 5 children ident. Both father & son were cordwainers... Re other early NATHANIEL BLANCHARD's of NH: --Among desc. of ["JOSEPH"-1 & JOHN-2 of Dunstable: -NATHANIEL-3 [1674-1706], son of John; Wife Lydia ____ & daughter Susannah d in same Indian attack. -NATHANIEL-4 [1705-d by 1709?], son of Nathaniel & Lydia; probably was the child, ae 2 3/4 years who died, having been cared for by his Uncle Joseph Blanchard [per probate records] -->Among desc. of Thomas-1 & Samuel-2: -NATHANIEL-6 [1760--c1835], son of Jacob & Rebecca Wife Anna Green [1762-1837]; Res Groton, MA to c1807 & in 1818 & Dunstable, NH [c1808--> ]. Children incl. Jacob & Esquire. Note: Dunstable records [deed & census] seem to show a close relationship to a GIDEON & EBENEZER BLANCHARD [lineage unknown] who might be brothers of Nath. -NATHANIEL [b 1794, Westmoreland, NH--may have d Washington, DC] son of Nathaniel-5 & Sarah (Bell). Did he marry Eunice Alexan- der in 1825, Plainfield, NH? [His brother Henry was in Plain- field c1829/30...] Note several other NATHANIEL's with incomplete records: --Who was the NATHANIEL [b 1765/84] listed in 1810 Merrimack, Hillsb., NH? -Among desc. of "Joseph-1": -NATHANIEL-4 [1709, Chelmsford, MA], son of THOMAS-3 [b 1668] & Ruth Adams of MA & Dunstable, NH. This Nath. & wife Esther Nutting res. Dunstable, NH & Groton, MA & he may have died be- fore 1732 probate notes of grandfather Peletiah Adams. [Have no data on wife Esther Nutting] -NATHANIEL-5 [b 14 Feb "____ "[?c1730], Groton, MA; d _____[?] [son of Nathaniel & Esther above ] ***************** LAA21937@endeavor.flash.net "Caroline Price" Re John Thomas BLANCHARD [1870, MS- ] & family of TX -->Additional suggestions: This man & his parents should be in the 1880 Soundex listings in MS, AR or TX. The 1900 Soundex for the same 3 states should identify John T., his brother William C. & possibly his parents. ******************* To: JCHBN@CUVMB.CC.COLUMBIA.EDU "John F. Tuttle -- --Mrs. Lydia Blanchard who died in Lowell, MA & was bur Exeter, NH: She's probably Lydia BOARDMAN who married 1809 in Exeter to AMOS BLANCHARD [listed 1810 in Exeter, NH]. He is probably Amos-7 [...Sam.-2 Thos-1], b 1789; son of Amos & Lavinia who were known to be in Exeter c1805-07 before moving to Lynn, MA. Have no confirmed data on res. of Amos & Lydia after 1810, his death or on any children. MORSE -->And many thanks to Tuttle for these newspaper abstracts! *************************** Re the RICHARD BLANCHARD's of Northfield, NH: --The Richard listed 1790-1810 seems to be Richard, bp 1727 in Durham, NH; son of Richard Blanchard & Sarah {Reynolds) Head. This man & his 2nd wife Mary Hancock had 10 known children born from 1769 to 1791 & he and his brother were among the first settlers of Northfield. According to desc. of his daughter Jane [DAR Lin Bks 75:318; 78:7], Richard died in Apr 1814; how- ever the Hodgdon Cem. in Northfield shows he was ae 37 and the Rockingham Co. probate filed in May 1814 for a Richard "Jr." seems to be for the Richard, son of Benjamin & Azuba. [Note: He would have been called "Jr." because of the presence in town of an older man of the same name.] --From the Rockingham deed indexes, I have many listings to be checked in order to sort out the multiple Richard's, Benjamin's & others in Northfield & Canterbury... Will share tentative data & sources for this line [particularly with someone able to check the actual deeds on my list]. *************** To Karen Sutliffe, John Chandler et al: Re small cem. on family farm, Harpersfield, Ashtab., OH [aka "South River Road Cem." in a DAR compilation]. -Main monument: "Abigail" - She is Abigail, wife of Obed; and died 5 Dec 1894, ae 82y. OBED d 3 Jul 1886, ae 75 -ANDREW P. [1848-1896] is a son of Obed -AARON [1795, Monson, MA; d 1880] is probably Obed's brother. Of the families in Monson, MA; [desc. of Samuel-2 Thomas-1] -JONATHAN JR & CHESTER BLANCHARD ident. as sons of JONATHAN-5 in Barbour's Coll. of VR in Conn. Many of the children of Jonathan-6 have been tentatively identified by a study of Hampden Co., MA deeds & probate & interaction in Worc. Co., MA deeds. Of these, Aaron, Dwight & Obed Blanchard were in Ashtabula Co., OH. ************* To: JUTUTTLE@aol.com Re Pembroke, NH marriage of "Abel" Blanchard & Molly Eastman on 19 Feb 1784. Your notes are a correct transcription; however this man is actually ABIEL Blanchard, brother of Abel who marr. Molly's sister Elizabeth. Historians/genealogists constantly confuse the 2 men, but Peacham, VT & probate records sort them out. *********************************** -->Please write for exchange of data & sources. Pat B.
