Hi all, I have been looking through the book "New Hampshire Marriage Licenses and Intentions, 1707-1961," by Pauline Johnson Oesterlin (1991) from the NEHGS Circulating Library. As the book says, one of the first laws promulgated by the New Hampshire legislature in 1679 required that intentions of marriage be published openly at least three times or posted in a conspicuous spot in the community for fourteen days prior to the event. It is a popular book and has a long waiting list. While I have the book, I thought I'd check for Blanchard names and post them here. There are not many but the information may help someone. The entries give the name and residence of both the bride and bridegroom, the date the intention was filed, and the origin of the report. This usually came about by any number of reasons but principally owing to the relationship to the bride or groom or friendship on the part of either.)
