I am trying to "prove" that these two JOSIAH BLANCHARDS below are the same person. A lot is riding on this connection, and I have only Cutter's claim in "New England Families" (,with no source document cited) that they are the same person, I. (From the 1939 NEHG "Register" article by Hartman, p.232). <<JOSIAH BLANCHARD, b.at Concord,MA, 23 June 17333 married ELIZABETH PIERCE at Lincoln, MA, on 30 Jan 1755 and had son JOSIAH, Jr. b. at Lincoln on 9 May 1755>> and II.(From "New England Families" vol iv, p.2138 by Cutter) <<JOSIAH BLANCHARD,son of JOSIAH BLANCHARD was born in Concord June 23 1730(sic). He married first at Lincoln, MA,Jan 30 1755, ELIZABETH PIERCE. He removed to Sturbridge,MA, and married there second 7 April 1762 ELIZABETH HOBBS. In 1790 he was living in Sturbridge, and, according to the census had in his family two males over sixteen and four females. Children born at Sturbridge:MARY b.1763;ANN b.1765; ASA b.1769; ABIGAIL b.1771; BERNARD b. 1773; AMOS b.1775; *by wife Elizabeth he had a Lincoln: JOHN (sic) 9 May 1755. Perhaps other children* (I don't know why Cutter listed this "John"...Hartman has him as "Josiah" ...out of order like this and not right after the marriage to ELIZABETH PIERCE at the start of the paragraph and before Cutter has him moved to Sturbridge) He removed to Barre, VT, where died about 1800. Children not recorded at Sturbridge: ABIDIAH; BETSEY, 1779; LUCY,1779, died Sept 26, 1864, married DAVID RICHARDSON; RACHEL, 1781, married PETER NICHOLS.>> As I wrote, it is critical that I find some verification that these two JOSIAHs are the same person. Before I start the arduous task of locating vital records and checking town histories, etc. I am sending out this note to see if this mountain has already been climbed by someone else and the task achieved.
