Thanks, John, for posting the VT census data. I can add some to your data, based on my copy of the the Census Index in the Vermont State Library. ----y Blanchard Pg. 159 Peacham, Caledonia If the four dashes represent missing letters, it may not be 'Mary'. For some of the other incomplete names, the no. of dashes varies - ex. Bissett, ------. Asahel Blanchard Pg. 45 Addison, New Haven is a son of William BLANCHARD and Thankful WEBSTER of Killingly, CT. He remained in New Haven, died there 10 May 1815 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery Asahel Blanchard 2nd. Pg. 45 is my 3g. grandfather and, I contend, was identified as "2nd" by the census taker to distinguish him from his "uncle" Asahel, living in the same community. This is sometimes done when the two people are not father/son; where "Jr." would be more appropriate. He was in New Haven until at least 1830, then seems to have disappeared until 1850 when he is in the household of his son Charles Henry Blanchard, in Northumberland, Saratoga, NY. Moses Blan(d)hard Pg. 535 Reading, Windsor my copy gives this spelling Abal Blancher Pg. 217 (Shelburne), Chittenden rather than Charlotte Reuben Blan(khar)d Pg. 159 Peacham, Caledonia rather than Blanshand I'm sure this is more than you cared to know about "my" people! Unless there are other Blanchards on the same page, with similar names, this just goes to prove that errors creep into different publications of the same census data. Sorry I don't have the publisher of the pages I photocopied. I have wanted to post a brief note about Asahel, especially with all our new members, so glad you prompted me to do so, John. Fletch
