Part of the speculation is that four baptisms recorded in Spencer, Mass from around this era refer to children of this same James, even though the dates do not line up at all, and none of the baptism entries mention a mother, and two of them don't even mention a father. The other part of the speculation is that James may have been the son of Josiah and Mary Blanchard of Concord, Mass.
