Those of us researching William Newton Blanchard in AL are beginning to despair. We have turned over every stone we can find in North Carolina and have not found him and his brothers as children in any of the Blanchard families. His exact birthdate is unknown, but is circa 1812-1820. According to a letter written by his son, Wm had two brothers: James and Thomas. We believe he was born in NC because of two sources: (1) the letter states: Wm is from NC; brother James stayed in NC; brother Thomas left NC to go to AK in the grocery business (we have not been successful in locating James in NC or Thomas in AK); and (2) the Talladega Co., AL Census records show William N. Blanchard b. NC. Related surnames: Hudson, Sumner, Tilden, and maybe Barnes. First names of William and Elizabeth Blanchard's children, which might give a lead to which Blanchard family they descend from: William Thomas, Mary F., John Harrison, Nancy, Franklin B., Jane E., Albert/Elbert B.
