PML (Personalized Mailing Lists) were established by RootsWeb for their supporting members at the Sponsor level and above. PML members can enter search items from their User Edit Page and RootsWeb will search all new posts to their 10s of thousands of mail lists for these search items and return the results to the member. Since I have been maintaining a Sponsor+ level of support for the lists I manage, including the BLANCHARD-L Mail List, I signed up for PML and have been receiving loads of 'hits' each day. It requires some careful definitions of 'search items' to eliminate unwanted 'hits'. For example, BLANCHARD will return all instances whether they are First or Middle names; names of towns, townships, or villages; names of e-mail submitters; surname 'signatures' that many people use, etc. Carefully worded "AND" and "OR" statements can eliminate many of these. I have been collecting the PML messages that might be of value to BLANCHARD-L and am trying to decide how to report them. Here are a couple of examples. I discovered the Hampshire/IOW Surname Interest List that is managed by Chris Broomfield. This operates similarly to the RSL where you enter your interest areas in the form: SURNAME, Where, Date, Country, Submitter's Name, E-mail address. These are all reported on a web page and information is exchanged by contacting the submitter at their e-mail address. Because the focus is on Hampshire County (England) and the Isle of Wight, there may be a better chance of making a connection.
