    3. Hello Gil. This is a copy of the message I posted. -- Rannie On March 13th, your message stated: > My Grandfather was named Aubrey "Blanchard" Tupper and > I am named after him. He was born in Weston Kings District > Nova Scotia on August 20, 1874 For others on the List, Weston is located in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley area and 14 miles west of Kentville, Kings Co., N.S. I have two Tupper marrying into the Blanchard lineage I am researching; one, John, to Elizabeth WADDELL and the other, Angus, to Hannah Blanchard McCURDY. These two Tuppers were cousins. Your grandfather may have been named after Aubrey BLANCHARD (1847 - 1899) who became a lawyer and was a partner in with my grt. grt. grandfather, William Henry BLANCHARD in Windsor, N.S. This law office continued through three more generations. I know they handled cases in Kentville, where other Blanchard family members lived. Aubrey's father was George Augustus BLANCHARD who had been a Judge of Probate for Kings County and later was appointed First County Judge for District Number Four which included Kings Co., Hants Co., and Colchester Co. I hope this may be the answer to your "62 year old mystery". George's cousin, Hiram BLANCHARD, was in the Nova Scotia government of Sir Charles Tupper. When Tupper left to run for federal office, Hiram took his place. This was at the time of Confedration and Hiram became the first premier of Nova Scotia in Confederation, but only for a couple of months. -- Rannie in Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia

    3. Hi all! I have recently "found" John Chandler's work on Thomas and Joseph and their descendants and am hoping some of you may have additional info to fill in the blanks. My line starts with Thomas c. 1585>Samuel>John>Simon>Isaac 1761>Isaac 1783 (where Chandler's info stops, as the rest of my line are born after 1800)>Isaac Wilder>Samuel Wilder>John Hollis>Florence Hallie (my paternal grandmother). All of this line after Thomas were born in MA and NH. I am looking to find the rest of the children born to the last four (except Florence) as well as death and marriage dates for the same as well as their spouses. That's a start and hopefully will lead to more. Thanks to all in advance. John Meakin Stevensville, MT

    3. I am desperately trying to trace the ancestry of Alexander Blanchard. I know only that he was born in Washington Co, VT in 1809 and have found only local (Onondaga Co, NY)historical references to him, his wife(Eliza Bellchamber) and children(Harriett, Melissa, Alonzo, George, Alexander Jr, Sarah and John) as a family after he settled in Onondaga Co, NY. He died in 1896 in Onondaga Co, lived in his final years with his daughter Melissa's father Prosper Hamlin(also widowed). His death certificate listed a Rachel Cagler as his mother but not sure how much value I place on this as most all of his immediate family was gone at the time of his death. Unfortunately also, the only Census Reports he would be included on with his parents would be before 1830 and these list only Head of Household. Does anyone have any information on Alexander?

    3. Found this on another List This site was created by the U.S. Army Military History Institute and it is a searchable database of their Special Collections. Using this database you can see if a photograph exists of your Civil War ancestor. Just enter the surname you're searching and the results page will give any photos of any soldier with that surname, along with (if known) his regiment. Next, you can send an e-mail with the photo ID's that you're interested in. The Army will then send you (for free) a photocopy of the picture, along with instructions on ordering a duplicate photo. An 8x10 photo costs $10.00. No more then ten photos will be produced for any one customer per year. http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html

    3. I usually try to handle these situations one-on-one, as I did in this case, but since I have been asked to speak <G>, here's the word. It has been a standing policy on this list, and many others I presume, that any message with non-genealogy content should be sent first to the list manager so it can be reviewed and judged appropriate or not. This is particularly true for chain-type posts that have 100s of addressees and as many or more replies. RootsWeb filters usually catch these messages but occasionally they do not. Virus warnings/hoaxes can be checked easily by going to one of the several very good web sites that keep track of these matters. As an example, go to: http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html and you will find that the Bud screensaver 'virus' is a hoax and has been around since 1997. Another interesting site is: http://www.kumite.com/myths This site is maintained by Bob Rosenberger and gives some good general information about viruses in addition to confirming the Bud frog hoax. Remember, all posts to most RootsWeb mail lists are archived. Two good questions to ask are, "Do I want this message to be stored for posterity, and what useful information will a genealogical researcher be able to find in this archived message"? While we are on the subject, remember to use appropriate and meaningful Subject: lines in all messages to B-L. This will help when searching the archives and the Threaded Archives uses these Subject: lines to collect messages that follow a particular thread. Fletch

This information came from Microsoft yesterday morning. Please pass it on to anyone you know who has access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless Budweiser screen saver, entitled "BUDDYLST.SIP". If you do - DO NOT OPEN IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, but delete it immediately. Once opened, you will lose EVERYTHING on your PC. Your hard disk will be completely destroyed and the person who sent you the message will have access to your name and password via the Internet. As far as we know, the virus was circulated yesterday morning. It's a new virus, and extremely dangerous. Please copy this information and e-mail it to everyone in your address book. We need to do all we can to block this virus. AOL has confirmed how dangerous it is, and there is no Anti virus program as yet which is capable of destroying it. Please take all the necessary precautions, and pass this information on to your friends, acquaintances and work colleagues. 3. Looking for ancestors of Asa Blanchard who moved to Lexington Ky in 1807. Was a silversmith who claimed to have worked in New York and Philadelphia prior to coming to Kentucky. His birth would have probably occured in the 1870s or 80s. From: Jerome Redfearn (redfearn@iglou.com
