    3. Hi All, I have been researching my family's history for about a year now. I have one family member, one Madeline Blanchard married to Jacques Jacquemin. I have no dates for either. I do however have the following information on one of their grandchildren; son of Jocques Jacquemin; no information Jacques Jacquemin b. 1826 in Belfort, France d. 19 April 1893. m. 18 April 1893 to Julienne Sigur b.abt 1837 d. 13 Mar 1913. They are both buried in St. John's cemetery in Plaquemine, Louisiana. The Jacquemin's used dit names of Jarrett, dit Jarrett, Beuregard and dit Beuregard, Hugon. Plus the name Jacquemin has been spelled a dozen different ways. Big Problems! Any of this look familiar? Glenda Houston, Texas glendal@wt.net

    3. Hello, I have a picture of Linda Blanchard. My Uncle Henry(Hank) Frick , was a friend of Pop Blanchard, and my family was, too. I am getting on in years and have this picture and a larger one of Linda. I was a teenager then, and do not remember alot about the folks, except that we all seemed to have good times together. I would like to send these pictures to someone in the family that would like to have them, plus I have some of Pop's Christmas poetry he used to write. They probably lived in Detroit, I am not sure. So, if you know of this family , and they would like these , please let me know. Pop was an exceptional person--someone out there must remember him. Sincerely, Marjorie Frick Crabb

For that matter, I have no information on his birth -- is the 1746 figure just a guess based on the year of his marriage? > Would someone please post the children of John Blanchard and Elizabeth > Snell with the associated dates and places? There were two children of John baptized at the 1st Congregational Church of Holliston: Mary on 1773 Oct 17 and Silas on 1774 Sep 18. Unfortunately, the church register does not list the mother, so there is a chance that Elizabeth Snell Blanchard had died in the meantime and been replaced by another wife. John Chandler

    3. Hello again, It's been a long time since I posted. I had to leave off research two years ago just as John Chandler suggested that I investigate John Blanchard, b. 1753 in Lynn. I'm starting research again to identify my John Blanchard, b. btw 1751-1755. He definitely isn't the one on the subject line, but his wife was also an Elizabeth of unknown surname. I'm finding that there has been some conflation between my John Blanchard of Berkshire County, MA and Madison County, NY with the John Blanchard, b. 1746, who married Elizabeth Snell. And I don't find that couple on the Blanchard-L website. Would someone please post the children of John Blanchard and Elizabeth Snell with the associated dates and places? I would like the information so I can identify the source of the errors for other relatives. Jean Ohai jeanohai@worldnet.att.net

    1. Franklin BLANCHARD, Truxton, Cortland, NY
    2. Fletcher Blanchard
    3. New member Bill Kullman posted some information on Franklin BLANCHARD and his wife, Lovina LARRABEE BLANCHARD who were born in Truxton/Cuyler, Cortland, NY 1826/1828. He also indicated that he was interested in any additional information about this family that our list members might provide. Whenever you hear about early BLANCHARDs in Cortland Co., NY, you can be quite sure that they are descendants of Azariel BLANCHARD, who settled there after the Rev. War and generated a large body of descendants, many of whom stayed in that part of NY state. Azariel is a descendant of Thomas BLANCHARD, the immigrant, through the line Thomas > George > George > William > Azariel. David C. Crankshaw, formerly a resident of Cortland Co. and now a resident of FL, has prepared an extensive file on the descendants of Azariel, one of whom is Dave's wife. This file can be accessed as a web page via the BLANCHARD-L Web Page at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~blanch-l/blpref.html by taking the link from the "Links to Blanchard Databases ..." You will find (78) Franklin BLANCHARD and his son (179) George H. BLANCHARD, according to Dave's record numbering system. There may not be much new material here for Bill on the family of Franklin and Lovina but the complete genealogy back to Thomas, can be found. ________ This is a good opportunity to remind you all to take advantage of the BLANCHARD-L Web Page and to visit our List Archives regularly, to search for information on your families/names that may have been posted over the past 3 1/2 years. Web addresses are given in the Greetings/Guidelines that was sent to each member (a copy of G/G can be found on our Web Page) and are included in the several 'tag lines' that appear at the end of all message posted to the List. Also, be sure to use appropriate and descriptive Subject: lines on all of your posts. There are at least three reasons for doing this: The RootsWeb Threaded Archives depends on these Subject: lines to group all related messages, it is much easier to locate or 'sort' messages if they are properly identified in the Subject: line, and when searching the Archives, you can, for example, enter the search string subject/Lemuel and it will return all messages that contain 'Lemuel' in the Subject: line. I hope that "Y2K" was not a problem for any of you and that 2000 will be a very productive year in your genealogical research. Fletch

    3. Maudean Neill of Montpelier, VT has generously provided some information on her BLANCHARD line. I met Maudean at a Genealogical Society of Vermont meeting this fall and later discovered that she is a descendant of Joseph and Ann(e) BLANCHARD. Rather than post the rather lengthy material to the List, I have prepared a page on our web site at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~blanch-l/blpref.html Follow the link under Blanchard Links *Links to BLANCHARD Databases and data sets on this and other servers. and then link from: *Some descendants of "Joseph" and Ann(e) Blanchard, who settled in Braintree, VT; including {A36-267} Barnard BLANCHARD(1774-1857): Joseph > John > James > Josiah > Josiah > Barnard. You will see that these data tie directly to Pat Blanchard Curry's database on "Joseph" and Ann(e) BLANCHARD. I have used the same reference numbers as found in Pat's database, for three of the earliest names so you can correlate them easily. Maudean was delighted to be able to extend her line! There are also some early census records and vital records for VT towns in the vicinity of Braintree. ____________ Please let me know if any of you have similar data collections that you would be willing to have added to the BLANCHARD-L Web Page. However, it is virtually certain that he was born before 1600, as his eldest known child was born about 1620, and probably earlier. You can find this lineage down through John Reed Blanchard on-line in the web page of the Blanchard Family discussion group (Blanchard-L). 3. Bonjour, RE; the NYGBS Hartman Papers... < c. The results of any 'photocopying, scanning, digitizing, indexing, etc.' will remain in the library and not be distributed or disseminated in any way.> I wonder what the purpose of that Society is? It seems to me from your comments that they are not as interested in disseminating genealogical info as they are in being the sole guardian of same. If our BLANCHARD group will be involved in the organization and indexing of these papers, I feel strongly that the ban on photocopying the materials is not appropriate. Why would any group interested in genealogy be not willing to share copies of the primary and secondary materials in their care with descendants of the subject of the donated research papers? I just don't understand. >From my read of you comment above, I take it that they would not ever provide to BLANCHARD descendants copies of any index produced nor any documents, even for the usual fees associated with this service offered by all other like societies. That seems difficult to comprehend, if true. Perhaps, the officers of the society are planning on publishing the contents of the boxes..... Just my thoughts on the subject. I don't want to ruffle any feathers there, but I think some negotiating is in order before this enormous task of preparing these Hartman papers for researchers is begun. Albert Belanger

    1. Administration 12/15/99
    2. Fletcher Blanchard
    3. Hi List Members - From time to time, I share with you a few administrative matters that relate to BLANCHARD-L and other services at RootsWeb. As the year winds down, this seems like a good time to post some of these to the List. __________ 1. After upgrading my mail program (Eudora), the Greetings/Guidelines message that I send to new subscribers, appears to have been sent but later, the message shows up in my out box as having been 'queued' but not sent. Several times I resent the message and also sent a note to the new sub, apologizing if two G/Gs were received. I'm still waiting for help from Qualcomm tech support about this but wanted to report this in case I missed explaining it to someone. 2. A new Utilities Page that RootsWeb list coordinators use to manage their lists, is being tested. This does not affect subscribers directly, but it does remind me to get your opinions on the following; I'll copy/paste directly and add my {comments}: * Prepend something to the subject of each message? If you enter ``BLANCHARD'' here, then a subject line that says ``Looking for John Smith'' will be changed to ``[BLANCHARD] Looking for John Smith.'' To disable the subject-line prepend, leave this box blank. {If your mail program has filters for sorting messages, this allows you to sort your mail messages according to the list surname (or any other key word that is appropriate). We are not using 'prepend', now. I have no preference, but one disadvantage is that for a long Subject: line, less of it will display in your mailbox table of contents window, etc.} * Use RootsWeb's commercial taglines? RootsWeb offers some tagline space for companies that want to put commercial messages there. These taglines are added to unsponsored lists. One of the ways you can help RootsWeb is by voluntarily adding these commercial taglines to your list as well. They will be added below any regular taglines you may already be using, and won't interfere with them. {B-L currently has 10 regular taglines - one of these appears randomly at the end of each posted message. They incude directions for locating useful web sites and how to support RootsWeb by becoming a contributor. I prefer not to add commercial taglines (See 3., below for background information) but would welcome your opinions} * Should replies be directed back to the list automatically? This option adds a Reply-To header to any message that doesn't already have one. If someone on the list replies to one of these messages, their response will be sent back to the whole list by default. {The way B-L has been operating, I think that it is best not to add a Reply-To header so that replies are sent to all list members. Each member can decide whether to contact the individual who posted the message or, with a little extra effort, send a message to the BLANCHARD-L@rootsweb.com address, for distribution.} 3. Our Sponsor+ account at RootsWeb for our List and Web Page for 1999-2000, is 'paid in full'. I was expecting a renewal notice but had to contact them to straighten out the "books" and learn that our account date is June 28 and not Oct 24 when we upgraded from Sponsor to Sponsor+, last year. As I have suggested in the past, if any members would like to contribute to RootsWeb, I suggest you contact them directly by visiting the site shown on one of our 'taglines' - Support RootsWeb! Go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html 4. In November, RootsWeb developed a Personalized Mailing LIst (PML) as a bonus for all contributor accounts. The user enters search phrases into the Edit program and RW then reports all instances of these words/phrases appearing in posts to the following: Any mailing list that is archived by Archiver (preserving list messages in the RW Archives is optional with the list coordinator; B-L is archived). All posts to the GenConnect Boards. All listings with the RootsWeb Surname List (RSL) I subscribed for B-L and am collecting 'hits' on "Blanchard" which I will report to the list from time to time. My search phrases need to be refined to eliminate the 100s of appearances of hits like, "Charles Blanchard, Editor. Chicago: F. A. Battey & Co., Publishers, 1884. Historical and Biographical Sketches, Indiana. (Charles appears to have been a prolific writer!!), Blanchard, OK, and lots of 'Blanchard' middle names!! 5. Hartman Papers at New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYGBS) As many of you know, Mr. J. Crawford Hartman collected a considerable amount of research material on his wife's line from Thomas B. through his son Samuel, but he was unable to publish this, along with other information on the descendants of Thomas, before his death. The papers were given to NYGBS and I have been trying to work with them to make the Blanchard research materials more readily available to genealogists. I'll include here a brief report of where that effort stands and we can discuss this further on the List in a separate 'thread'. a. Volunteers working at NYGBS on projects like this do not have to be society members. b. All work will be done under supervision of the Library Director or a library staff member. c. The results of any 'photocopying, scanning, digitizing, indexing, etc.' will remain in the library and not be distributed or disseminated in any way. d. Only G&B members can look at the Hartman Collection (and enhancements we might prepare) and only members can use their fee-based Record Search Service by mail. Specific questions about a specific person can be asked through this service, but multi-generational research is not permitted. e. It is unclear just how much information a member who visits the Society Library, can take away but on my visit this fall, I was given permission for limited use of a hand scanner. By the time I prepared a brief inventory of the two boxes that I viewed, there was no time to scan any of the documents. I will postpone my comments on the NYGBS situation until I get some feedback from our members. 6. I will be adding the following brief data set to our Web Page: Blanchard: from Braintree History by Royce Bass; Vermont Vital Records & Census Some Descendants of brothers William and Barnard Blanchard of Worcester, MA and Braintree, VT This was provided by Maudeen Neill <maudean@sover.net> of Montpelier, VT, who is a descendant of Barnard (1772-1857), a descendant of Joseph and Ann Blanchard. This supplements the information on Barnard [A36-267-11] in Pat Blanchard Curry's "Joseph" and Ann database on the BLANCHARD-L Web Page and provides misc. census and vital record data on Blanchards for that part of VT and time period. Please let me know if youhave similar material that you would like to have added to the Web Page. _________ Happy Holidays to All! Fletch

    3. Looking for the birthplace, birthdate and ancestors of Asa Blanchard, who was born circa 1770, perhaps in New Jersey, Maryland or Virginia and who came to Lexington KY and died there in 1838. Any help greatly appreciated.
