I have a John BLANCHARD, b. 1849, Wiltshire, Eng. who married Catherine 'Kate' MacDonald GRAY, b. 1847, Dunoon, Scotland. John's father, Robert BLANCHARD was from Wantstro, Somerset, England. Eventually, a child, Hector BLANCHARD b. after 1881, married Lily LAWSON, b. Scotland, in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. I have lost the line at that point and am wondering if any of you have anyone who might fit this line. Thanks for any help at all, Janet in USA Tparkie@aol.com

Hi Everyone; Joining this list has done wonders for my family tree. I have found 2 more researchers working from Samuel Blanchard b.1819 England. It's a wonder to go from one generation to 5 in a week. Thank you all. Albert, I don't think the Samuel on the Oregon Trail is either of mine. I'll keep looking for anything that says he traveled, but I'd guess yours came from the East Coast. Looking forward to hearing more. Bonjour, I don't know anything else about the SAMUEL BLANCHARD I have come across in my research on the Oregon Trail, except that a man with this name was on the trail in 1851. This is what I have on BLANCHARD in my Master List of 1851 Oregon Trail Pioneers (The initials between the -'s are the coded sources where I found the names): BLANCHARD FAMILY RESEARCHER (Albert E. Hello All; I was born a Blanchard, but always thought we had no history. My grandpa's father died when he was 6 weeks old, & we were told there was no other family on his side. Recently, I've learned that was not the case. My grgrandfather's name was Samuel A. Blanchard & his story is a real mystery. I'm told he spent time in prison.....maybe why his family didn't keep in touch. I don't think they were aware of his 2 children even tho they lived in the same town, Dawson Springs,KY. I believe he is the oldest son of John William Young Blanchard of Indiana & Kentucky. Does anyone know anything about this family? Thanks, Linda (Blanchard) Steiner ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1
The descendents of Alonzo Blanchard (b. 1832 in Searsport, Maine) will have a reunion in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 3, 2000. Anyone interested or having information on Alonzo should reply to me. Kathie Hormby
I am searching for information on Felix Blanchard, born about 1846. The only information I have on him at this point in time is that he was born somewhere in Canada. I do not know the province or the names of his parents. He lived in the area of Pine Lake/Caroga Lake, NY in the 1880's. He had a son, Charles Henry, born in 1882. He married Jeannette Mosher or Mozier from NY State. I do not know when they were married or where they were married. Any help will be greatly appreciated. You may email me at: mynana@ispchannel.com
Hi Folks! Kathy Baker inquired recently on this list about the BLANCHARD's of RI and she has only heard from myself and Carol. There use to be more of us on this list. Has everyone grown tired and moved on? If you are still out there, either write to Kathy at <the.bakers@flashnet.it> or simply REPLY to me. We can't give up on finding William's parents! :) Have you discovered anything new? Here is what I wrote to this list in 1997. I guess that's the last time I have inquired. >Resent-Date: Wed, 22 Oct 1997 04:32:09 -0700 (PDT) >Date: Wed, 22 Oct 1997 05:23:44 -0600 >To: blanchard-l@rootsweb.com >From: Nancy Cluff Siders <siders@lookingglass.net> >Subject: William Blanchard of RI; also lived in Hartford, CT...? > >I'm still trying to figure out the Blanchards of Rhode Island! OK. My name is Kathy Baker. I'm married to Doyle Baker and we have three daughters, Julie, Cynthia and Deborah. My husband's grandmother Mabel Louise (Taft) Baker's mother was Luella Blanchard and that is where the Blanchard's come into play in our family. We live in Rome, Italy but I am from Ohio and my husband from Los Angeles. The line is as follows, so far as I know, and it is very possible it is not 100% correct. It's what I've come up with through family, searching, etc. but I've really just begun. Perhaps someone out there has something to add. I'm just listing the Blanchard's for now and if something tickles your fancy let me know. I just wanted to get on the list. William Blanchard, born ABT 1680, Providence, Rhode Island Willaim Blanchard, (am not sure if this name is misspelled or not), b. 1702, Providence, Rhode Island Isaac Blanchard, b. 1746, Foster, Rhode Island William Blanchard, b. 19 FEB 1764, Foster, Rhode Island This William married Mandilla Hill and had Douglass Farnum Blanchard William later married Martha Hall (I suppose Mandilla died) and had William Penn Blanchard, b. 11 OCT 1805, Foster, Rhode Island. William Penn married Sarah Burlingame Seamans and gave birth to Albert Damon Blanchard, who married Mary C. Burroughs. This is where Curtis Royal comes in: he was born 30 OCT 1867, Foster, Rhode Island. But that's all I have on Curtis Royal. Douglass Farnum Blanchard, b. 25 MAR 1813, Foster, Rhode Island Henry Clinton Blanchard, b. 26 APR 1834, Foster, Rhode Island Luella Blanchard, b. 24 NOV 1858, Uxbridge, Mass.married Charles Sumner Taft Mabel Louise (Taft) Baker is my husband's grandmother There are more children involved but I just put down the basics for now. Hope we can help each other. Kathy

Hi, all. I recently ran across a book containing the results of the 1771 tax list for the Massachusetts colony (which included Maine). The information was collected colony-wide and included a count of adult males (but nobody else). There is lots of other information tallied, but I extracted only some of it: "ratable" polls, "nonratable" polls, estate annual worth, total acreage, and the existence of (A) merchandise, (B) sailing vessels, or (C) money invested at interest. I am enclosing here a list of all the Blanchards I found in the book (based on the index at the back -- I didn't see any Blanchards that weren't in the index). Every person has an eight-digit code consisting of four digits for the town (two giving the modern county and two giving the alphabetical order of the towns within each county) and for for the individual (two giving the relative page number within the town's original handwritten tax listing and two giving the line number on the page). I hope this information helps somebody. I have tentatively identified all of these Blanchards except the three with asterisks after their info. If anybody can suggest where these three fit into the Blanchard picture, I'd be most interested in hearing about it. Note: in three cases, the people listed didn't actually live in the town where their property was, and in two of those, the town where they lived was noted -- and you can see an entry for each of those at home. The third was Thomas Blanchard ("Blancher") shown in Weymouth, who I believe was Thomas[5] (1720-1803) son of Thomas[4] of John[3] of Nathaniel[2]. By 1771, Thomas[5] was living in Abington. I suppose the list for Abington must be incomplete for some reason, as there were no Blanchards. If French & a Catholic the J usually stood for Joseph. Catholics almost always named their sons after the Saint Joseph and their daughters after Sainte Marie. Most likely the name was James A Joseph BLANCHARD. I am researching Acadian ancestors & have often run into a lot of difficulty when sometimes there were 2 or 3 Josephs &/or 2 or 3 Maries listed as children in the same family. The next greatest difficulty appeared was when a child died, the next one born would be given the same name. In the 1600's - 1800's French Acadian families were large, averaging 12 or more children. I often could only sort them out if I had their birth dates &/or the names of their spouses. You know that nearly10,000 Acadians were dispersed worldwide by the British in 1755 Deportations & most of their descendants in USA are called Cajuns. Hope I was of some help, cheers Martha. "J.
