Fred Hartley [ fredkwh@incubus.demon.co.uk ], a long-time member of BLANCHARD-L, sent me this some time ago and I intended to post it to the List. Those of you involved in the search for the parents of the immigrants, Thomas, and his presumed brother Joseph, may find this interesting. These data were extracted from the Registers of the Walloon Church of Southampton and copied from: The Publications of the Huguenot Society of London Vol. IV 1890. ______ (These are all the entries for Blanchart, etc. apart from citations of Blancharts as Godfathers. F.H.) 19 May 1577 Marriage of Pierre BLANCHART and Collette MARTIN. (The entry says Pierre was without father or mother) 9 Mar 1578 Baptism of Pierre son of Pierre BLANCHART 26 Apr 1579 Baptism of Jacob son of Pierre BLANCHART 19 Jun 1580 Baptism of Jan son of Pierre BLANCHART. _______ There is little here to suggest that this Pierre BLANCHART had any connection to the the 'elusive' Pierre Jean BLANCHARD, rumored to have emigrated from Cap de la Hague, Normandy France to England, and claimed by some to have been the father of Thomas and Joseph and to have been a member of the French Huguenots. However, the time period is about right and perhaps there were other children of Pierre and Collettte. Fred recently sent me the extracts in their original form (French) and a document that was extracted from "The Walloon Settlement and the French Church at Southampton", by W. J. C. Moens, F.S.A.; Published in the Proceedings of the Huguenot Society of London Vol. III 1888-91. To make this available to those who have an interest, I will add both of these to the BLANCHARD-L Web Page and, for now, will include it under "Blanchard Links" with the title. "Search for the Origins of the Immigrants, Thomas and Joseph BLANCHARD." I'd like to make this a 'clearing house' for any and all information that might help us to discover and document the parentage of Thomas and Joseph. Please submit any information that you think would be appropriate, directly to me, so I can add it to the page. Fletch BLANCHARD-L Web Page: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~blanch-l/blpref.html

I received this forwarded message through my PML (Personalized Mail List) at RootsWeb. PML participants receive notification from RW of any post to the thousands of RW Mail Lists that mentions names, places, etc. that have been designated by the participant. I have identified BLANCHARD and several other surnames for my PML and though I am bombarded with these, I have been collecting them in a 'mailbox', hoping some day to find time to organize them and share them with you. Linda, in New Zealand, has given permission for me to forward this to the List. Please respond to her directly if you have any information about George BLANCHARD, b 1821 Isle of Wight, GB. Looking for anyone who has Blanchard relatives in KY mainly Daviess County, KY more especially in Utica, KY which is located about fifteen miles from Owensboro, KY. Related names O'flynn, Howard, Haley, Arnold, Neal, Reid, Logsdon. Happy to share any information I have. Thanks for your time, Judy Arnold
I have the book Putnam County Centennial History, 1834-1934 in which there is a several page article on Blanchard Township which is in Putnam County, Ohio. In this article it explains how Blanchard Township received it's name and the Blanchard River, from Jean Jacques Blanchard, who was born about 1720 in France and as a young man came to America. It's an interesting article and if anyone should like to see it I can scan and send. Another character who paddled a canoe in the river Blanchard was John Chapman, "Johnnie Appleseed" and it talks about this as well. Email me. Kathy Baker

In case you Northeastern US researchers missed the recent post to NORTHEAST-ROOTS-L >We have added James Savage's book, "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First >Settlers of New England before 1692," to the AHGP site. >(American History and Genealogy Project) http://www.usgennet.org/usa/vt/state/savage/ "Savage" was originally published 1860-1862. The Introduction (at the beginning of each of the four chapters), indicates what other information has been included in the database. The preparers of this web page have done an outstanding job! For those of you who are unfamiliar with "Savage" or cannot view a copy at a nearby library, this is a great source of information. Much new and corrected information has been collected on these people since 1862 but this is a good starting point. I'll leave it to some of the more knowledgeable list members to point out any specific inaccuracies. Volume #1, Pgs 187 - 198, Bittlestone - Blatchley, contains information on George BLANCHARD ( - 1700), son of Thomas, the immigrant, and Thomas BLANCHARD, son of Deacon John of Dunstable, MA. Fletch
Hello, I am not a Blanchard descendant, but Candice was a sister to my Nathan Wescott. She was b. March 15, 1783 in Richmond Twp., Cheshire, NH. The Wescott family moved from NH to Mass. to Ontario Co., NY abt. 1800. The first mention I have of Samuel is 1843 in a deed showing that he and Candice are living in Manheim, Portage County, Ohio, selling property in Manchester, Ontario Co., NY to John Moore who was a brother in law of Candice. This was property that Candice had inherited from her mother Hannah Horton Westcoat in 1813. I would like to know about Samuel and when & where he and Candice m., children, death, etc. If there is anyone interested in Candice, I will certainly share the inf. I have on her Wescott family. Her brother Nathan died in Ontario Co., NY, but most of his children moved down to Crawford Co., PA and one I know moved over to Warren, OH area. Thank you very much. Looking for information on Hannah Blanchard b. ca. 1801 in Georgia, VT. I have looked at quite a few vital records and church records and found no Blanchards in that area during that time period. Hannah married Erastus Tisdale and moved to Michigan around 1833 with their 3 daughters and then had 3 more. Willing to share information on the latter part of their lives. Norma
