Hello Nancy, I have recently returned to the BLANCHARD List. As you know I have the same genealogy down through Isaiah LETSON, where we divert. I have the following on William: William married Jane Steere, daughter of John Steere and Anna Wickenden, (I have a little more information on the Steeres if anyone is interested.) I also have the following in my notes about William. As you can see, some is conjecture: "Possible brother to Huguenot Matthew (?) Blanchard from Artois, France. References: Austin's Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island Blanchards of Rhode Island; Adelaide Blanchard Crandall Steere Family History A note from the BLANCHARD listings in the internet says that William's father may have been Richard. Also William had children: Timothy, Moses, Theophilus, and William. This also is in the Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island." My file shows him a born in Hesse France/Germany. I would also appreciate any hard data which help in learning more about him. Was he a genuine Huguenot? New member of your elite group and have been told how helpful each of you are. I am trying to trace backward an elusive gentleman by the name of James Blanchard. By early census records, to shows he was born ca. 1780/90 somewhere in Va. He was in Va. long enough to have married a Eunice____and had a first son named Hiram Blanchard. Then between 1818 and 1820, for some reason the family moved to Conewango Co. New York near the town of Leon. The family grew and they seemed to have stayed in the New York area for some time. We think James died about 1833 in Conewango Co. N.Y. area. His children were: Emera James Blanchard Hiram Blanchard Solotus Blanchard Emeline Blanchard Henrietta Blanchard Lucinda J. Blanchard If anyone can find information on James, it would be deeply appreciated. Later, by the way, the direct family moved, pre-civil war, to Wisonsin and then later in Minnesota, but need help on the early wanderings of the family. Thank you in advance. Blanchard researchers, For those of you who are having a problen finding the information on the Thomas Blanchard of Mass. This is what it says about him. Rev. Cyrus B. Hatch, Postoffice Dravosburg, was born April 25, 1848, near Franklin, Venango county, Pa. The progenitor of this family was Col. Joseph Hatch, from the county Kent, England, who came with Gov. Winthrop and one thousand families and settled the city of Boston, Mass. His descendants are to be founf in many states of the Union, and many of them have won distinction in potitical, commercial or military life. His great-grandson, Ebenezar, a mechanie resided at Falmouth, Mass. and married Statira Blanchard. The progenitor of the Blanchard family was Thomas, a native of England who settled in North Yarmouth, Mass, where his large progeny became wealth shipbuilders and commanders of vessels, of his three sons: Solomon, John and David- Solomon married Elizabeth Loring and had four sons: Solomon, Nathaniel, David and Joseph. Of these Nathaniel was the father of Stratira, who was a remarkably intelligent womqn. She had three sisters: Mrs. Mary True, Mrs. betty Buxton and Mrs. Alice Kenny. Statira Hatch had five children: Eunice, Elizabeth, Joseph, Davis P., and Nathaniel. The last named married Jane Kingan, a daughter of John Kingan, of county Down, Ireland. Nathaniel was an esteemed member of the Pittsburg bar, and died April 25, 1879 aged sixty-three years. His widow died May 5, 1885, aged seventy- eight years. Their only son, the subject of this sketch, is a graduate of Western University, class of 1869, also of the Allegheny U.P. theological Seminary, class of 1872. For a period of three years each was pastor of the Mifflin U.P. church, Mansfield, and Irwin Station. His talant as an organizer was recognized by the U.P. Board of Missions, who sent hom to Denver, Col., where in less than two years he secured a valuable church property and an organization of seventy members, besides a flourishing Sabbath-school. Returning to Dravosburg, he took charge of the curch there of forty-five members; his work was blessed abundantly, and within a year the church numberes two hundred members. Mr. Hatch married Agness., daughter of Hezekiah and Rosannah (Frew)) Nixon, Former of whom was one of the first elders of the First U.P. church of Allegheny, also first Mayor of that city, serving two terms, and afterward was recorder of the county; His daughter, who was remarkably well qualified for the position od a pastor's wife, died March 20, 1873. Mr. Hatch's present wife is Bessie S., a daughter of David and Elizabeth (Ross) Foster, of Mansfield, Pa. To her devoted and untiting cooperation is to be attributed much of Mr. Hatch's success in later years. Of Mr. Hatch's children only two survive: Blanchard Ross Foster, born June 5, 1881, and Bessie Eunice, born June 27, 1888. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Hello, I saw this on another list , and was a member of this one for some time. Hope this helps someone. Marjorie o Recently I found an old envelope from Saint Luke's Hospital, Saginaw, Michigan, in the lower cabinet of a travel trailer I purchased in Alabama. The envelope contained two old photographs: (1) a baby picture with "Gertrude Winifred BLANCHARD, five months old, Oct. 28, 1901" written on the back, and (2) an adult female with "my cousin Winifred" written in the top left hand corner in pencil circa 1920. I would like to find a family member who might be interested in having these photos. zlight101@bcinet.net

"Search for the Origins of the Immigrants, Thomas and Joseph BLANCHARD" has been added as a link under BLANCHARD Links on the BLANCHARD-L Web Page. From here, there will be links to various topics that might be of interest to those who would like to help push these lines back another generation or two. The information about the Walloon Church at Southampton that I reported on 17 December, has been added and also a link called "Pierre Jean Sightings". I thought this would add a bit of humor to what might be interpreted as somewhat contentious in my introduction to this segment of the B-L Page. I'm sure all the researchers who descend from Thomas and Joseph would be delighted to be able to add Pierre Jean to the top of their chart but first, let's find some justification for this. As the old millenium bows out and the new one approaches, I would like to thank all of you for your participation in this List. I send Season Greetings and a wish for your happiness and good health for the new year, as well as success in all your genealogical searchings. Fletch

Hi, I just joined the Blanchard mailing list. I started by reading much of the archived material, and was happy to learn of the alternate spelling, Blanshard. That produced a few more results in my research. Below is my Blanchard family. Everything earlier than William Newton Blanchard, I obtained from fellow Blanchard e-mail list researcher, Pat Holloway, for which I am very grateful. However, there are many holes left to be filled. I hope someone on this list will be able to help me. (Probably) Robert Blanchard 1630 Nansemond, VA Benjamin Blanchard 1660 and Catherine Nansemond, VA (Probably) Ephraim Blanchard 1685 and Isabel Chowan Co., NC (however, I just saw a record that stated he was a Quaker in VA and married there) (Possibly) Jesse Blanchard 1723 and Rachel Chowan Co., NC Josiah Blanchard 1757 and Millicent Turner Chowan Co., NC William Newton Blanchard 1812 and Sarah Elizabeth Hudson Gates Co., NC to Talladega Co., AL Sarah C. "Sallie" Blanchard 1863 and Willis Horton Freeman Talladega Co., AL Sarah Blanchard is my great grandmother. I have names and dates associated with the children of William Newton and Sarah Blanchard if that will help anyone. Hope to hear from a cousin soon. CAROLYN FREEMAN HODGE
