Thanks to Karen for posting these marriage notices. I have checked them against my files, and found that the marriages of all three male Blanchards appear in the Boston vital records (though I haven't been able to identify any of them with Blanchards whose births are found in the published vital records of Massachusetts towns, nor have I had any luck finding the brides' births). I haven't seen any record of a Blanchard marrying Francis Childs. John
In the book Marriage Notices, 1785-1794, copied from the Massachusetts Centinel and the Columbian Centinel, by Charles Knowles Bolton, I find the following Blanchards. (S. means it was in the Saturday paper, W. means Wednesday, and in this town means Boston) BLANCHARD, Francis, (in this town) Mr F.B. to Miss Hannah Whipple, both of this town. (S. April 19, 1794) BLANCHARD, George, in this town, Mr. G.B. to Miss Betsy Tilden. (S. June 22, 1793) BLANCHARD, John W., (in this town) Mr. J.W.B. to Miss Abigail Dalton. (W. April 17, 1793) BLANCHARD, Sarah, m. Francis Childs (no dates) Hope this helps someone. Karen Eddy

In answer to Dennis Brandt: I found a good Civil War site for the 1st PA Rifles Regiment and several articles at http://www.paoline.com/bucktail/1998/htm I gives a list of Company A thru Company K with Company I The McKean Rifles McKean County Captain William Blanchard.(no T. but assume the same man.) If he is apart of someone on the List-you would need to do more research on this website than I did. Pauline Blanchard
Looking for first-hand accounts by or about Capt. William T. Blanchard, a Massachusetts native who was working for the railroad in northern Pennsylvania at the outbreak of the Civil War. He helped recruit what became Company I of the famous Pennsylvania Bucktail Regiment and became its captain until being shot through both legs at Harrisonburg, Virginia in June 1862.

Hi All, I was barely able to contain myself today at the NH Historical Society Library when I found this elusive lady, for whom I have searched for the last four years. I knew I needed to calm down when the huge antique door slammed into the granite wall on my way out! Rhoda Colby married Joshua Moore Blanchard before 1800 and settled in Washington, NH. Her date of birth is found in the family Bible as June 22, 1772. Until today her ancestry was unknown. Monday I took copies of each of her children's marriage certificates and her son's marriage certificates. Most were blank regarding parental information. Three records listed parents place of birth. Two listed Rhoda as born in Hopkinton, NH, one stated Derry, NH (which would have been Londonderry at that date). Based on the matching data for her husband Joshua it would have followed that Rhoda was born in Derry and was raised in Hopkinton, NH. Today I had errands in Concord and recalled that there was a book of genealogical information extracted from the Congregational Church of Hopkinton at the Historical Society. I searched the baptism's and found, lo and behold, Rhoda, dau of Isaac & Hannah (Allen) bp April 13, 1773. No birth record exists for Rhoda at the State VR Archives, and I believe it is missing from the microfilmed town records as well, though I will double check Hopkinton now. Rhoda and Joshua named one of their son's Isaac. I am convinced that this is a m! atch. I will check for a will on Isaac as well. I just had to share, Sherry Rhoda [COLBY] b 1772 Hopkinton, NH 1998 7 15 Joshua Moore b 1775 Hollis, NH 1998 7 15
Hi, My JOSHUA PETTINGILL BLANCHARD went from Barre, VT to IL where he enlisted in the U.S. Mounted Riflemen in 1847 and served in the Mexican War. He married REBECCA JANE RACE in 1851, and they set out over the Oregon Trail from Peoria that April. I have often wondered what connection he had to IL. Anyone help? I have lots on the J.P. In response to Beryl's query on BLANCHARDs in Illinois, I have a few from my wife's line which originated in Peacham, Vermont and most settled in Osceola, Stark County, Illinois in the late 1850s. In 1872 they removed to Creston, Union County, Iowa. The following are all surnamed Blanchard. - Abby S. b: ___ Peacham; d: 21 Apr 1861 in Osceola. - Ebnoch b: 4 Jul 1830 Peacham; d: 11 Mar 1889 in Newark, Kendall, Illinois - Eugene Herman b: abt. 21 Aug 1858 Osceola; d: 18 Aug 1893, Stuart, Guthrie County, Iowa - Florence b: 15 Mar 1864 in Osceola; d: 5 Jan 1964 at Osceola - Ione b: 1860 in Osceola; d: 1948 at Creston - Lewis b: 27 October 1873 at Peacham; d: 3 Sep 1926 at Chicago - Margaret Gay b: 24 Jan 1822 at Peacham; d: 9 Jul 1900 at Moline - Maria b: 1833 at Peacham; d: 1873 (or 1874) at Peru, Illinois - Phineas Varnum b: 25 Jan 1834 at Peacham; d: 10 Apr 1886 at Peacham - Simon b: 24 Jan 1822 at Peacham; d: 28 Sep 1860 at Osceola. There is also a Mindwell Blanchard born in Peacham who is believed by family members to have died "somewhere in Illinois in the Fall of 1883." Sorry, but no Williams in my wife's Illinois Blanchards. Today I read on the 1920 census of William M. BLANCHARD (b. 1851) being from Illinois. What a surprise to me! All this time I thought he was from TN. Do any of you know of BLANCHARDS from Illinois? I have been stymied since August with this one and would be so grateful for any help. Many thanks in advance. Beryl

Thanks, Sherry, for providing these data. So far, the dates agree pretty closely with those published in the various town histories I've looked at. There is a curious discrepancy in the C's, though: >Charles, male, b 5/4/1766 in Dunstable, NH to Jonathan Blanchard and Rebecca, > reported from Nashua, NH All the Dunstable vitals from the 1st book were included in the published vital records of Dunstable, Mass (because that book has all the old stuff from before the Province Line cut the town in two and gave half to New Hampshire), that book shows a Charles born in 1776, not in 1766. The 1766 date is shown for the first child, Rebecca. Does anyone have an indication that Rebecca was actually twins? Nathaniel's wife's death is listed in the family memo book, but not her name. Her birth year can be deduced as 1725 from the stated age at death, and the marriage probably took place shortly before the first of the deeds transferring ownership of the Shutesbury farm (1745 Feb 3). That matches pretty well with the first child listed in the memo book (1745 Oct 20). However, there is no matching marriage listed in any of the published vital records of Massachusetts towns (excluding the coincidental marriage of Nathaniel of Braintree). Hi John and All, I have not discovered who Nathaniel's wife was. Thought this might be a good opportunity to see if anyone has found record of her. Could it be that there was really only one generation of Joseph rather than two? I am going to VR on Monday and will see what there is on this line. Sherry ---------- From: John F. According to the family memo book published in the NEHGR v72p150, the Joseph who was born in Shutesbury on 1755 Oct 28 was the son of Nathaniel. This Joseph is the one who died in Acworth on 1847 Dec 26, aged 92, according to the same source and a death notice in the Exeter News-Letter. The children of Nathaniel were Rebecca, Isaac, Nathaniel, Rachel, Joseph, Sarah, Aaron, Lemuel, and Joanna, in that order. The same NEHGR article also gives proof that Nathaniel was the son of Thomas[3]<Samuel[2]<Thomas[1] from a pair of deeds conveying the farm in Roadtown (Shutesbury) from Thomas to Nathaniel. Is it possible that there were two Blanchards who settled in Shutesbury and had children with those names about the same time?
