Hi Vicki You probably have the following info but in case you dont this is what I have on your Blanchers Quote from J. Chandler Also interesting. There have been discussions in this group of two other Blanchards who moved there at that time: two brothers, Aaron and John, from the Andover branch. I am a decendant from Aaron Blanchard, I have the book History of Leeds and Grenville (printed in 1972) in front of me and it mentions Chas Blancher died 1868 at age 57 Township of Kitley has Joseph owning 200 acres on con 8 lot 22 Sala Blancher being on a committee that erected a very handsome tower on the M. E. Church Farmersville In 1867 Pg 178 Among the first settlers in that portion of Elizabethtown were the following John Blanchard, Aaron Blanchard, John Keelers father, a Methodist preacher, Joseph Robinson, Obediah Reed Joab Hutcheson, Mr. Hoag, Moses olds, father of Samuel Olds, Old Mr. Olds married a Pennock for his second wife, Sally Olds married David Hutcheson. One of Mr. Olds daughters is wife of Eben Halladay the oldest settler of South Crosby. Sala Blancher, father of Sala Blancher, Farmersville. Happy Hunting Carole
Hi, Vicki, and welcome to the list. I have your Joseph as the son of Joseph & Priscilla (Smith) Blanchard. He was born in Stoughton, MA, according to the vital records, one day later than you have. He married apparently in Mansfield, MA, though the Stoughton vitals also list the marriage (but on Nov 14). The marriage intention filed at Stoughton listed the bride as "Salome Welmon." Only one child was recorded in Mass. (Asa in 1775) before the family moved north (first to Colrain, according to Pat Curry, and then to Jamaica, VT, by 1785). I'd be interested in the data you have on the other children. > The Blancher family moved to > Leeds County, Ontario in 1800. Also interesting. There have been discussions in this group of two other Blanchards who moved there at that time: two brothers, Aaron and John, from the Andover branch. John Chandler
Hi! I'm new to the list and would like to add my names to the list if I could. I'm currently researching JOSEPH BLANCHER, born in Vermont June 10, 1748. He married LONA WILLMAN Sept 23, 1774. I descend thru their son SALA BLANCHER, who was born in 1781. The Blancher family moved to Leeds County, Ontario in 1800. Thanks for any help you can give. Vicki Cooper
Hello everyone! I'm new to the list and would like to know if anyone has seen any info on our ancestor, Henry L. Blanchard b. 27 Apr. 1853/55 probably in Vt. or maybe Three Rivers, Que,Canada. m. Mary O'Dowd abt. 1874 owned property and resided in Vergennes, Addison Co., Vt, d. 13 Oct. 1932 while visiting in New Haven, Ct. Ch: John Henry, Owen, Alexander, May, Elizabeth. He spoke fluent French. Lived in Orange Co., Vt., Town of Ely in 1880. Possible parents are Henry Blanchard b. abt. 1827 and Huldah Clark, who m. and lived in Rutland Co., Vt., until sometime after 1870 when they disappear from the Vt. Census. Thanks in advance for any help you can lend. Judy Blanchard
Still looking for any info on Frank and Fanny( Philamin/Mary) (Plant) Blanchard from Monkton. This is where I have found info on some of their children, unfortunatly not their daughter Flora who is my g-grandmother. I have not been able to find her place of birth, nor her parents. I believe Fanny PLANT was born in Canada, but Frank BLACHARD has livedin many VT towns and his childres birth records all say he was born in a different town. I would also like to know where they are buried. FLor married Truman Harris of Hinesburg I think she may be buried there but there is no stone for her. Jackie

I don't see any Samuel Blanchards among the descendants of Deacon John, down to 1800. There were quite a few among the descendants of Thomas, though. John Chandler
A few of us (Jim Cooney, Barbara Torelli and perhaps others) in this group descend from Samuel Blanchard who married Mercy Richardson March 27, 1727 in Hampton, Windham, Connecticut. I have suspected that Samuel may in some way be related to Thomas Blanchard (the emigrant)...but, to my knowledge, there is no known link to this line of New England Blanchards. I have been in contact with someone who has done quite a bit of research on the Ezekiel Richardson family from Massachusetts who believes(although has NO PROOF) that our Mercy Richardson could be the daughter of Josiah Richardson b. May 18, 1665 in Chelmsford,Middlesex, MA d. Oct 17, 1711 in Chelmsford, Middlesex, MA and Mercy (Mary) Parish (some records show Parris) b. January 5, 1667/8. They had a duaghter Mercy who would have been about the same age as "our" Samuel Blanchard. Browsing through Ancestry.Com on-line database yesterday, I may have come across some interesting information which may eventually provide an insight... Based on text from "Early Generations of the Founders of Old Dunstable, THIRTY FAMILIES" Mercy (Mary) Parish is the daughter of Robert Parish and his second wife, Mary Crispe. After Mary Crispe's death, Robert married Elizabeth Blanchard, the daughter of Deacon John and Hannah (Hills) Blanchard. This would seem to indicate that Mercy Richardson would have had contact with her step-grandmother's Blanchard family in Massachusetts. Did she perhaps marry into this family? After Robert Parish's death, Elizabeth married, second, 1710 Deacon Thomas Burrage. Does anyone with information on this line of the Blanchard family have a record of a Samuel Blanchard or Mercy Richardson? Did Elizabeth have any nephews/relatives by the name of Samuel who may fit into this picture? Thanks, Jane Champion Banner Elk, NC
The following is a web site to search for unclaimed property. There is no charge, it has a search engine & you can search by surnames or whole names, it's supposedly the best site & covers all states. Monies &/or property is from govt sources, banks, ins co, etc. & ranges from $1.00 into thousands of dollars. I've seen one at $6650. & that person had 14 more places holding $ or valuables. Safe deposit boxes have no value listed. Two members of my family found $ - one from deceased person that never mentioned it & one living person that wasn't aware $ was owed them. Appears to be alphabetical when searching surnames but it isn't, so scroll the whole list. Site seems to be slow but it's worth the wait. Have fun looking for something your family may be owed that nobody is aware of. Go to: http://www.unclaimed-property.com Jean dmerritt@erie.net
Hi all, I am a new subscriber to this list and wanted to let everyone know what Blanchard family I am searching. My ggg grandfather was Calvin Blanchard( b. 1821 d. 1895). He was the son of Jacob Blanchard and Deborah( unknown ) Blanchard. The family resided in Putnam, Washington Co. NY for several generations. As I have only just started tracing back this branch of my family, I do not have much , but would be curious if anyone else may be researching Blanchards in this area. Thanks, Susan Cady
Albert asked: > Since he was a deacon of the Dunstable, MA, church, I assume he was literate, > but could be > wrong.Does anyone know of a document which he signed or have any proof that he > could > write? According to Elias Nason's "History of the town of Dunstable", Deacon John signed two petitions in 1689, asking the General Court to provide soldiers to defend the town against Indian attacks. I don't know whether that implies he literally signed his name, though. John
Bonjour, I have Deacon John's (son of JOSEPH and ANN, progenitor immigrant ancestors) will as printed in the 1906 Granite Monthly. It is a little long to put out to the list, so if anyone wants a copy sent to her/him, email me, and I'll send it individually. I also have a photocopy of the original, handwritten will, but it is very hard to read. The will was signed in 1692/3, apparently when he was ill, as he signed it with his initials only. Since he was a deacon of the Dunstable, MA, church, I assume he was literate, but could be wrong.Does anyone know of a document which he signed or have any proof that he could write? Marget, Thank you for the precise info on C.E. While we had assumed it meant Canada, I must admit ignorance on the topic. I had asked several area town clerks and they also had no idea. WHile again I had assumed it was Canada it really didn't give me much of a starting point for my search. Thank you! Jackie
Hi fellow researchers; I am researching the descendants of Guillaume BLANCHARD b. 1590c in France who m. Huguette POIRIER. Guillaume does not appear in the Acadian census of 1671, he would have been in his 80's, & most likely already deceased or back in France. If he came to Acadia in 1635 or later he would have been in his mid 40's. So, 'MYTH' or not, his son Jean BLANCHARD b. 1611c had to have a father! A descendant, Fabian BLANCHARD b. 27 Aug 1822 in Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada, m. Judith Doiron. They had two sons: Hyacinthe BLANCHARD b. 21 Mar 1848, he m. Odile THERIAULT Eugene BLANCHARD b. 11 Dec 1849, he m. Marie BLANCHARD. Is there anyone out there in 'cyberspace' researching the families of Hyacinthe or Eugene? Is so, would you please contact me? Most of Eugene's family ended up in Massachusetts after 1915, & now descendants are all over USA, only one grandson with his descendants is in Alberta, Canada. I have quite a bit of information but know of no one else researching these two persons. Martha
Jackie recently asked what the designation C.E. meant. Briefly, it means Canada East. In a nutshell, it means Quebec. To go back into history a bit, you may remember that in 1763 the Treaty of Paris forced France to cede control of its colonies in North America to the British. In 1774 the British government attached Ontario to Quebec. Then the British lost the American Revolution and the Loyalists poured over the border at the end of the war and were given land grants in the Niagara region, along the north shore of Lake Ontario, and the areas south and west of Montreal. This put the English-speaking and French-speaking cultures together in one political unit, with predictable results [which are still with us today]. The Constitutional Act of 1701 split Quebec into Lower Canada [present-day Quebec] and Upper Canada [Ontario], with the Ottawa River as the boundary line. A few more political upheavals followed, and 1841 the two halves were joined and became known as Canada West and Canada East. This didn't work well either, and in 1867 the Dominion of Canada was formed, with the two provinces of Ontario and Quebec joining with New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to form a confederation. But I have seen records after 1867 in which people identified themselves as being from CW or CE, so the designation hung on for awhile in popular usage. Whoops--I got carried away. That's probably more than anyone wanted to know about the subject. Maggie
Looking for VT blanchards, from the Addison area(Monkton, Hinesburg,Bristol) Frank & Fanny/Philamin/Mary (Plant) Blanchard (need their parentage) and children...Flora (Blanchard)Harris, Joseph, Frank, Mary & Eli. I have little to go on except Frank may have been born in Williston and Fanny in Canada....By the way does any one know what C.E.means in old vital records? I assume it refers to Canada or some part of Canada...??? Jackie
I'm sorry but I don't have the senders e-mail or name & can't recall the first name of the BLANCHARD that was inquired about, last week. I am researching Acadian French BLANCHARDS & was unable to help. Since then I came across the following site & there may be helpful information. If one scrolls down past all the surnames starting with B to several BLANCHRDs listed. Martha http://searches.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/me/cumberland/nyarmouth/settlers/filebbl.txt
It was a great shock to hear from Tom Wilde that Pat Blanchard Curry passed away this past New Year's Eve. I have sent a personal note to Pat's daughter Robin and her husband Mitch. This is truly a great loss. All of us who had the wonderful experience of knowing Pat, share the appreciation of her genuine spirit of sharing and her dedication to researching the Blanchard families. Our List should consider it a privilege to have been able to work with Pat to make some of her research efforts available to the Internet community. Fletch
