Last year, Pat B. Curry asked if I had any information on my great grandmother's siblings. My ggrandmother was Orpha M. Blanchard, born 26 Jan 1845, to David and Lorain Blanchard in Morrisonville, Clinton Co., NY. Lorain (Perry) Blanchard was David's second wife. His first wife was Orpha Canfield. Children by David Blanchard (b. 30 Apr 1794, in Pittsford, Rutland, VT, to George and Elizabeth Blanchard) and Orpha Canfield were: Marcello(?), b. 1820/25, Bristol, Addison, VT; George(?), b. 1825/30, Bristol, Addison, VT; "Adeloner", b. c1830, Bristol, Addison, VT; Hiram, b. c1837, Clinton Co., NY; Children born to David Blanchard and Lorain Perry were: Orpha, b. 1845, Clinton Co., NY (my ggrandmother) Mary, b. c1846, Clinton Co., NY; Rollin, b. c1849, Clinton Co., NY; Stanton, b. Jun 1860, NY; Viola, b. after 1860? Orpha married Seth F. Richardson in Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., NY, in 1865. They moved to Wisconsin where my grandmother was born in Green Lake Co. They also lived for awhile in Marquette Co. and in Fond du Lac Co., WI. Pat's info shows that Orpha's half-brother, Marcello, lived in Fond du Lac Co., WI, in 1868. An interesting side note: my father's middle name on his birth certificate was Marcello, obviously named after Orpha's half-brother. My Dad's middle name was later changed to 'Mack' by his parents for reasons unknown. Pat and I wondered what may have happened to Marcello and the other Blanchard children. Pat had the name 'Admiler' in quotes after the name Adeloner but did not give reasons for this. Also, she later shows the name (in quotes) as 'Admilmer.' Further, Pat shows my ggrandmother as being referred to as "Orfelia" at age 5 living with her parents in Schuyler Falls, Clinton Co., NY (this info may have been taken from the 1850 census). Pat was not able to provide any death dates for David Blanchard's children other than what I gave her about my ggrandmother. We were wondering what became of Orpha's siblings. Pat did give me some info about marriages and children for some of Orpha's sisters and brothers which I will provide upon request. Anyone know anything else about these children of David Blanchard and his two wives? Am also interested in knowing more about my gggrandmother Lorain Perry's family. Would appreciate hearing from you if you do have additional info. Tom Wilde mailto:wildeman1@home.com

Hi Fellow Blanc/shard Researchers, Some of you will know that I am the newletter editor for the Blanc/shard FHS here in the UK and very occasionally pop up on this list. One of our members spotted something recently which may be of interest to those connected to the Thomas Blanchard who once resided at Goodworth Clatford. At the end of the last century smallpox swept the UK and compulsory vaccination was introduced. In the interest of brevity (there is much more to this story) one Kate Blanchard of Clatford refused to have her children vaccinated and went to prison twice for her strong beliefs in 1896. So vociferous was her objection and that of others in the district that she became a sought after speaker in other areas of the country where there was campaigning against the law. My question is, does anybody know anything of Kate's husband and family. For my part I can tell you that a full account is given in "Look Back at Andover", Vol 1 no 8, September 1997, obtainable from Andover History and Archaeology Society c/o Andover Public Library, Chantry Way, Andover SP10 1LT, UK The cost is GBP 4 including postage - I doubt if USD would be appreciated for this small amount because of conversion/bank charges Regards John Blanchard john@jblanchard.demon.co.uk
Hi Roxana L. Tea, this is Donna , I found this on the IGI at the family history center today , but don't know if you already have this or not. Charles M. Blanchard born 25 Jun 1867- Jacksonville, Windham, Vermont Father: Merritt L. Blanchard Mother: Luana S. Hicks Hope this may help. Donna
Hello to the "Blanchard" list - have been reading the list for several months and herewith post my first inquiry: Am researching surname BLANCHARD and specifically the family of Charles Michael as surnamed above (he is my g-grandfather through the line of his [4th-child] son Chancy Sylvester). Have been unlucky in finding anything re C.M.'s parents, except, per the 1880 Fed. Census, which indicates the birthplace of Charles' parents as being OHIO. I did find in the 1850 Whitely Co., Indiana Fed. Census record (pg. 472, line 17-18) a Chauncey Blanchard, age 20, and wife Catherine, age 18, no children. Have not yet looked at 1860/70. My bet is on this couple as parents of: Charles Michael BLANCHARD, b. 30 Sep 1852, Whitely Co., IN; d. 09 Jun 1924, Nampa, Canyon Co., ID; m.ca. 1873 Sarah Matilda SNYDER [dau William SNYDER and Belinda HASTY]: (4th child) Chancy Sylvester BLANCHARD, b. 23 Dec 1879 Swain Twp., Noble Co., IN; d. 30 Aug 1962, Bandon, Coos Co., OR; m. Blanche Edna LEWIS, b. 01 May 1883, Hastings, Adams Co., NE; d. 01 May 1963, Portland, Multnomah Co., OR. Are any of you my cousins? Thanks for your time. itsmerox@aol.com (Roxana L. Tea)
Here is the latest word from ROOTSWEB REVIEW so I guess it is official. Fletch __________ NEWS AND NOTES FROM ROOTSWEB THREADED LIST ARCHIVES ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Now you can read 122,813 messages from 877 mailing lists using your Web browser by visiting <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/>. All those messages are from just three months of beta tests -- watch this archives grow with its public debut. This is a remarkably comfortable way to browse through the posts that have been made to the lists. Be sure to use the integrated search engine to find what you are looking for. To use the Archiver you will need to pick a user name and password and you will need to accept a cookie. The reason for passwords and cookies is to keep spammers' e-mail address harvesters *out* of the archives. Because of this password-and- cookie feature, listowners can set up lists to be archived with confidence that they are *not* exposing posters' addresses to spammers. We encourage all RootsWeb listowners to visit the Archiver and then include their lists in the archives. The next step is to start making old list messages available. Thanks to Marc Nozell for implementing the threaded archives. __________________ Written by Julia M. Hi Members - Re/ RootsWeb Mail List Archives. The information that I sent on the situation at the Roots Web Archives needs to be modified. For many weeks, I followed the discussions on the listowners-L List, between Marc Nozell and the List owners about the new "Threaded Archives". I didn't want our List members to miss out on the opportunity to start using the new Archives so waited until it seemed that everything was running smoothly before publishing the web address on BLANCHARD-L. Apparently the site is still under development and has a number of problems so I can only suggest that you take a look at it to see what it is all about, but don't expect it to be fully operational. The address is: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/BLANCHARD-L/ and I will let you know when it is working properly. The new threaded archives started in Feb. 1999 so it has archived only messages from the past three months. The 'search box' labeled Search BLANCHARD-L operates in the usual fashion and returns all messages that contain the key words your entered in the search string. The box labeled Search all Threaded Archives will display the returns as related or "threaded" messages so it is easier to follow exchanges that took place on the List. I suggest that you continue to use the http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl address to get to the main search page for all Lists and enter BLANCHARD-L to go to the search page for our List. 1. The Mail List Archives at RootsWeb have been undergoing some changes and I have hesitated to report to you while they were still being tested. I monitor listowners-L@rootsweb.com faithfully and think most of the 'bugs' have been eliminated so here is the new URL for BLANCHARD-L. http://archiver.rootsweb.com/BLANCHARD-L/ This takes you directly to the search page for both the regular archives and Mark Nozell's new "threaded archives". The old address will work for a short time but you should bookmark this new one. I have not had a chance to check out the new page but will try to do that soon. In the meantime, give it a try and let me know if you have any problems. Rumor is that eventually all the list archives will assume the form of the "threaded archives". If true, it will be even more important that proper Subject: lines are used since it is my understanding that "threading" depends on the contents of Subject: rather than a search of the message body. 2. I'm happy to share some wonderful news with you about Pat Blanchard Curry's genealogical collection. As you know, Pat passed away the end of last year and it was a great shock to all of us who knew her and corresponded with her about our Blanchard genealogies. Pat's two databases on our web page are a sample of the quality and thoroughness of her research and BLANCHARD-L was privileged to be able to offer them to the Internet community. Pat's daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Mitchell have notified us that Sue Kartchner will be managing Pat's research materials. Sue is Pat's niece and is enthusiastic about the new project but will be getting into it gradually so I'll try to keep you informed. 3. We seem to be having about the normal number of 'bounces' on B-L and I receive notification of all of these plus all the sub and unsub requests. I usually assume that RootsWeb is able to take care of all of these but let me know if you have any problems and I can probably help you from the Listowner's Utility Page.

Hello all, My data shows this Jonathan Blanchard was the son of Lt. Samuel and Mary (Brown) Blanchard, grandson of John and Mary (Crosby) Blanchard and great-grandson of Samuel and Hannah (Doggett) Blanchard. Mary his wife was Mary (Polly) Lovell, daughter of Oliver and Hannah (Smith) Lovell. I do not have her birthplace. Jonathan and Mary may have had 13 children, some of whom married and moved to New York state. jututtle@aol.com (John Tuttle)
Hi Again, I just checked out John's file and found "Phyadilla BLANCHARD, born 1804 Jan 5 at Rockingham151" who appears to be a match for "Fidelia wife of Charles George". The date of birth matches and the name if you go phonetically. I did take a hard look at that date as she was so young for a wife. I wonder if Ester was a sister. The stones were so unique and all lined up together, set off from their "neighbors" that I think they were all related. Sherry ---------- From: John F. Hi John and All, The death date sure looked like 1825 to me at the time, but without being able to look again I can't *guarantee* that. I can say that the stones for Jonathan, Mary and the daughter were, like the adjacent ones of the before named women, nice stones in great shape. The stones were a different type of stone, I don't know what, but they almost looked "frosted". I guess they were more granulated, maybe salty looking. They sparkled in the sun. The cuts were clean, no mold or other obstruction. The sun was optimal and reading that cemetery was much easier than later in the day. At the same time I was with the hubby who at 6'4 with those long legs gives my 5'3 frame a real run through. I was looking for my revolutionary ancestor Deacon David Ingalls and worried he would cover the entire cemetery and miss him before I got these inscriptions down, so I could have made a mistake! I think it was 1825. Sherry ---------- From: John F. The most recent date for a publication by them was in the 1960s and their address was still Illinois. I forget the exact town.. They apparently published a number of genealogical works including the multivolume "The Compendium of American Genealogy, First Families of America beginning in the 1930s. The reference department of your nearest good-sized library may be able to help you further. Also you yourself may want to search for "The Institute of American Genealogy" on the search engines I mentioned plus some of the others. Different search engines often turn up different sites for the same search topic. If what you are interested in is the book you mentioned, you may find it on microfilm through your nearest LDS Family History Center. Good luck. jututtle@aol.com (John Tuttle)
