    2. Fletcher Blanchard
    3. Yesterday, a friend told me about some wonderful old tin-types that were on display at a Parsons Family Reunion in Lake George, NY, about 35 miles from my home. Since they included some Blanchards, I decided to drive over and take a look. These are pictures of some of the descendants of Azariel BLANCHARD(1741-1818) who descends: Thomas>George>George>William>Azariel. Azariel settled in Cortland Co., NY after serving in the Rev. War. The connection to Parsons is: Azariel>Jesse Mason>Jesse Mason>Laura Blanchard who m. Noah J. Parsons. Laura's mother was Sally Harris. The collection of tin-types includes pictures of: Jesse Mason Blanchard(1808-1881) Sally Harris Blanchard(1809-1902), w. of Jesse Laura Blanchard Noah J. Parsons h. of Laura and inventor of a clothes washing machine (shown in the picture) William Blanchard, father of Nora and Alma Eugenia Blanchard Webster Nora/Eleanora Blanchard, w. of Fred Webster Alma Blanchard James Blanchard Trowbridge Blanchard Eugenia, William, Laura, and James are siblings. William's middle name is Trowbridge but Trowbridge Blanchard in the picture is not his son. Azariel's family came from Killingly, Windham, CT and this Parsons line came from the neighboring Somers Co., CT to the Cortland, NY area. It is possible that the early families were acquainted in CT. The owner of the album is Faye Elizabeth Parsons Bragg, who lives in Webster, NY, near Rochester. Faye's Parsons line is Noah J.>Paul P.>Faye Elizabeth. I thought that our list members who connect with Azariel might be interested in these people. The album will be in CA where the images will be scanned. Later it will probably be possible to get copies. Let me know of your interest and I will coordinate arrangements with Faye. Fletch

    1. Book: History of Huntingdon and Blair counties Penn.
    2. Donna
    3. I found this in the book above. Hope you don't mind me writing all of this to the group. Page 77-78 John Blanchard was a resident of Bellefonte. He was admitted an attorney in this county at April term, 1815. He had been admitted at York, Penn. on the 31st of March of that year. He was an Eastern man reared and educated in New England, a graduate of Yale College, and thoroughly imbued with Puritanical principles. He located in Bellafonte while yet a young man, and secured a good practice in Centre County and soon extended it into adjoining counties. For many years he was an attendant upon our courts, and participated in most of the important trials that took place here. He was one of Robert Campbell's attorneys in the case of the Commonwealth against him for libel upon Governor Porter. His Colleagues in that case were Samuel Alexander, of Carlisle, and John G. Miles of Hungtingdon. Mr. Blanchard had all his life been as opponent of the Democratic party. He had grown gray in that opposition. No wonder, therefore that he should in 1844 receive the unanimous nomination of the Whig party for Congress. The district was composed of the counties of Centre, Huntingdon, Mifflin, and Juniata, every county being represented. The conference nominated him by acciamation. John G. Miles, who was his brother-in-law , had many friends in this county, and the conferees from this county would have voted for his nomination, but he declined in favor of Mr. Blanchard, thus making a sacrifice which not many men are willing to make. Dr. Joseph Henderson, of Mifflin county, was his competitor. Huntingdon county gave Mr. Blanchard a majority of thirthteen hundred and thrity-one, and he carried the district by three hundred and ninety-six majority. In 1846, Mr.Blanchard was again nominated and elected to Congress over A.P. Wilson, of Huntingdon. hope you all enjoy alittle bit about Mr. Blanchard. Donna

    1. my family history
    2. christopher blanchard
    3. My family history (my dead end)begins with my grandfather George B.He came from England sometime in the 1920's.From what I understand he was schooled in a Methodist orfanage in Wayburn Sask. I think, and went to U. of Sask. He was part of the team that built the largest grain elevators in the world at that time, in Thunder Bay Ont.He went on to become alderman and mayor of Port Arthur and also founded the Masoic Temple there. Where he came from in England I don't know. The last name Blanchard stands for "white cart" in French. I understand it began in Normady France. It could be that the origin came from a man riding a white cart around town selling fresh vegies. It could also be possible that the reason that so many of us are of English back ground is that during the French revotion that lots of us fled to England. I have heard various roumors about my family history, all unconfirmed. JUst speculation that it was a Blachard that fist crossed the English chanall in a hot air balloon, and a Blanchard fist to use a parrashoot. I am also told that a Blanchard was a gardener for Royalty and ran off with one of their daughters. All unconfirmed. If any has word I would be glad to hear it. Thank you Mr. Christopher _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
