    3. Sarah DEMING was the daughter of Eliakim (1741-1813) and Hannah Deming. I do not have her birth date. She should not be confused with Sarah Deming, daugher of Eliakim (born 1722) Deming, who was born in May 1760. Eliakim Deming was born August 1, 1741, in Wethersfield, CT, son of Timothy Deming and Susannah French. (He could not be found when Timothy's will was read.) THIS Eliakim was FOUND in Bennington County, VT, with sizable holdings in the townships of Dorset and Manchester. It is said that his daughter, Sarah, married Ezra BLAKESLEY in the town of Manchester in about 1788 (Ref. FamilySearch.org). Ezra's name is listed as a head of a household in Manchester in 1791. When Eliakim died in Manchester, five Blakesley grand children were listed in his will. (1) David Blakesley was born on March 18, 1792 in the Town of Manchester. (Because it is said that his parents married in "about 1788", I am wondering if there may have been an older child who died young.) David lived at Perry, NY, as did his son, Norman Blakeslee. (Yes, the name is seen both ways in various records.) (2) Jason Blakesley was born on June 19, 1794, in the town of Manchester. It is believed he also lived in Perry, NY. (3) Hannah Blakesley - is this the one who married Hiram Dean? (If it is, she was born on April 2, 1802, and died on January 16, 1861, in Litchfield, CT.) (4) Ruby Blakesley was born on December 15, 1803, in the town of Manchester. (5) Sarah Blakesley was born in about 1806. She too lived in Perry, NY. Ezra Blakesley died in about 1840 in Perry, NY. Sarah Deming Blakesley died in about 1845 at Perry. On the early censuses of the town of Manchester, it appears that there are at least two other girls residing in the Eliakim Deming household. Eliakim's first wife, "Hannah", died in April 1791. On the 1800 census, there was "one female under 10" which makes one wonder if Hannah did not die in child birth; and another "16 - 26". One of the Manchester neighbors married a "Deming" girl in about 1797. So if we can find the names of these Deming girls, hopefully we will find some missing pieces to our puzzle. Eliakim's second wife was seen as Mary Ann and Marian. Maybe after Hannah died, he married a widow with daughers. So it is unknown if the "females" in this household were daughters or step-daughters of Eliakim Deming. The purpose of this posting is to find someone who has information on Sarah Deming Blakesley and can tell me her correct birth date, death date, and the names of her siblings. (This lost information is our "brick wall"!) MaryLu in Minnesota

I have been searching for years for Samuel's ancestry. Have found many false claims but nothing substantiated. He could not have been born in the New Haven Colony in 1624 because it was not founded until 1637. However, he did live there in Guilford and married Hannah Potter there in 1650. I would love to find out how he came there.

I was on a visit to Plesseys in Towcester, but that was long before I started doing genealogy. I'm about to look at parish registers, and I'll certainly look at Northamptonshire. I recently got a Blatchley to test his DNA and I'm looking for anyone else with a name like ours who might have a trace back several centuries to submit his DNA for testing. I have shown that I possess the DNA of Samuel Blakeslee. If someone's test results match mine, then he and I have a common ancestor. How far have you gotten back in the area around Guildford, Surrey. That is a likely place for Samuel's origin, since he went to Guilford, Connecticut. Gene

This has been concluded and reiterated over and over. Only Thomas Blachley, who almost certainly was not a brother to Samuel, was on that ship. All stories and searches based on that totally incorrect assumption have caused endless confusion and repetition. The only possibly correct version of Samuel's crossing was stated without documentation by Edward Atwater in his 1902 book "History of the New Haven Colony". He said that Samuel was thought to have come to Guilford, Connecticut on the second ship. Nobody has been able to discover the name of that ship.

The link to our projects website is shown in the previous message below. Gary Blakely Fort Worth, Texas, USA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Previous message" There are dozens of close variations of the Blakesley surname. Some of the families are closely related, and some are not. This has confused genealogists for a hundred years or so. To sort out some of this confusion we are starting a DNA surname project in which we will compare the DNA "fingerprints" of participants and classify them into related groups. The more participants we can attract, and thus the bigger our database, the better chance we will have not only to associate related families but also to supplement conventional genealogy in helping individual members trace their ancestry. We have set up a website for our project which explains what our project can and cannot do and how you may participate at: http://users2.ev1.net/~blakely52/Dna/DNA%20project.htm In addition we have obtained a reduced price for group participation. Please email Gary Blakely at blakely52@ev1.net or Gene Blakeslee at GBlakes442@aol.com for more information.
