In spite of the hardships and constant fear of injury and death, my father believes his childhood years in a coal mining camp to be the happiest of his life due to the closeness of the community among the miners and their families. As a result of this, I am preparing for a college research paper on the subject of coal miners. I hope for this research to evolve into my graduate school thesis, and hopefully a dissertation for my doctorate degree.
