I receive little mail from the List, thought perhaps I had been unsubscribed. Can't get mail unless I post something, so today when three postings came in, it gave me the nudge I needed to update my old postings and give my BLAIRs another try. I'm searching for the parents and possible siblings of Andrew and his sister Sarah BLAIR reportedly born in PA, but sometimes listed as being born in MD. My BLAIR line, Andrew (gr. gr. grandfather) and Sarah, were recorded in the research of Dr. Eleanor M. Hiestand-Moore. She was corresponding with another BLAIR researcher, Nathan A. BLAIR. Apparently in 1917 N. A. BLAIR wrote to Dr. Hiestand-Moore making reference to a letter received from Josiah HISSONG of Point, PA. I will type in a portion of the account as it appears in the book. ===================================================== "Twenty years ago, Mosses A. Points, then a prominent lawyer of Bedford, Pa, wrote me in reply to an inquiry that his mother's maiden name was Blair, said to have come from Maryland; but he was unable to give me any details as to her ancestry. (Note by Alice V. Blair, daughter of N.A.B.: A strange thing though, this Mr. Points has a son who resembles Oscar Blair, son of the writer, enough to be his brother). From what Mr. Points says he has no record of his maternal ancestry but only today (Feb. 22, 1917) I received from Captain Josiah Hissong of Point, Pa., a letter stating that the mother of Mr. Points was a half-sister to his father, and her name was Sarah Blair. Captain Hissong says that his grandmother had three husbands: (1) Lear; (2) Blair; (3) Hissong. Hissong also states that his grandfather (Blair) was in the War of 1812 or the Whiskey Insurrection and marched West as far as the soldiers had to go. There they had a fight with the Indians and insurgents. Captain Hissong says that Sarah Blair had a brother Andrew Blair who lived at Hopewell, Pa and that his son Samuel Blair, is living at Six-Mile Run, Bedford Co., Pa. I shall write to this Samuel Blair and try to get something more of his family; will tell you the result later. I met him several years ago and he said that his people came from Franklin Co., Pa. He resembles the Blair family here, is the verdict of those who have met him." =================================================== I cannot find any other information that shows whether or not N. A. BLAIR ever contacted Samuel BLAIR (my gr. grandfather) and reported his findings to Dr. H.-Moore. In tracing Sarah BLAIR, sister to Andrew, she is recorded as being born July 4, 1815, Maryland/Pennsylvania, married to David POINTS, and raised their family in Bedford County, PA. I can not find any information for her parents Tracing Captain Josiah HISSONG, I find that he was born 1839 Washington Co. (MD/PA?) his parents were Jonas and Nancy Hissong. I have not found anything for Jonas' parents to determine whether the grandmother mentioned was the natural or stepmother of Jonas. Seems likely she could have been a second marriage, which leads me to believe that this is where the Blair lady with the three husbands comes in. While reading about a BLAIR line in MD, in Gerald Sword's "A History of Blairs Valley", I found a possible tie in. Sword follows the Andrew BLAIR family from Lancaster Co., PA to the valley that lies between MD and PA and is later divided by the Mason Dixon Line. Andrew married Elizabeth Davis. The children of Andrew and Elizabeth Blair are: James John David Mary Susannah Eleanor Ann Catherine The son, John BLAIR marries (1) Priscilla DAVIS; then married (2) Frances (?). After John died in 1799 his widow, Fannie/Frances BLAIR, married Jacob LEAR and moved to Ohio. I don't know how or if this is the same woman, but the similarities lead me to believe my Andrew and his sister, Sarah, were from the group of BLAIRs from BLAIR Valley. Now the big bricks in my brick wall are: Who are Andrew's parents? I can't find any of these Blair Valley BLAIRs with a son named Andrew and a daughter named Sarah. Where and when was Andrew born? Taking his ages given on the census, the year varies greatly, could be anywhere from 1809 to 1815 What was the maiden name of Susannah/Susan, Andrew's wife? Blair Research Society was given AIKENS. When did Andrew and Susan die and where are they buried? I last found Andrew and Susan listed on the 1880 Census for Six Mile Run P.O. (Coaldale), Bedford Co, PA. If anyone can contribute, correct, or has any other questions that I might be able to answer, please feel free to contact me. Thank you Barb << [email protected] >> CA
