Other's have helped in the past with no luck! I believe I have the 1870 cencus in with my Blair file's, it's just a matter of finding it since the file's are scattered in a few different place's. But I know I saw it & they were in Mt.Carmel.The mystery is what keeps us going, isn't it? Thank you again & if I find the 1870 census, I'll send the info. Author: Dozenelk6 Surnames: Blair Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.blair/3617.1.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Tammy, Thanks for the information. Sometimes a new person gives a fresh perspective. Sometimes not. But I love to search for things for others, when my own research goes nowhere for long periods of time. I do not think your Blair line connects with mine, but I helped someone else whose line might connect. That line first went to Canada and then to N Y. Now descendents live in N Jersey. I thought I would look at this from that angle. With the info you posted, I have already found and copied John H Blair & family on the 1850, 1860 and 1880 census. So far I've not been able to find them in 1870 even though I understand they were in Mount Carmel, Northumberland, PA. I've searched under Mariah's name and John D. in case John H was in the military and not listed with the family in 1860. The only observation I have made at this time is: 1850 Census was taken in October 2nd of 1850 and Catherine E Blair was 2 months old. So she was probably born last of July, 1850. The varied places of birth listed in these censuses are so typical. Right now I am leaning toward believing John H and Mariah were both born in NY, married in NY and first child born in NY. I will moved forward on that premise until I find otherwise. The 1870 census is a "must find" before I can do anything else though. I WILL find it! :-) You may write me directly, if you wish, dozenelk@hotmail.com. Just wanted to let you know I am working on your Blair line. I did not find a single Blair head of household on the 1820 census in New Jersey. If John H was actually born in N J parents may have gone to N J after the 1820 census and before John H's birth. However, he may have been born in NY. There does seem to be a N J connection somewhere. ! Oh the mystery! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I've been searching this family for 11 years & have not been able to get past John H. Blair (my gg-grandfather). I can give you most of the info. you asked for. You'll find that on later census they are contradicting to the earlier one's, mainly ab out where John & Anna were born? I've had people check NY & NJ marriage's with nothing yet. I'm assuming from census records that John was born abt. 1822. By 1860 they were in Mt.Carmel, Pa., northumberland Co. & they had children Catherine E. Mary/Virginia, b. in NJ abt. 1853, John D. b. in pa. abt. 1856. 1870/80 same census They had 3 more children ? child b. abt 1871, d. 1878, Susan A & Henrietta. John's wife Anna died in 1879, he remarried Lucinda Zartman in 1882 & had another son Edward, who is my g-grandfather. He was b. in 1883. It looks like they only stayed in Va. a couple of years, moved back to NJ had another daughter & moved on to Pa. I have not been able to find! any death records for John or Lucinda in the Northumberland Co. area. I do have some more info. on some of their childrens marriages. And mega info on his 2nd. wife Lucinda Zartman, very prosperous family.I have done much research in NY for John & Anna with not much luck. Although Dyckman's were prosperous there also. There is even today the Dyckman house that is preserved in NY city, built I believe in 1700's, early 1800's sometime. It is now a museum. There you go, pretty much all I know! I'll be looking forward to hearing from uou. Tammy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Dozenelk6 Surnames: Blair Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.blair/3617.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I notice that your Catherine Blair b. 1850 to John and Maria Blair, was listed on the 1850 census as born in New York while both parents were listed as born in New Jersey. Catherine was only 2 months old and living in New Jersey. But 2 months prior, she was born in New York, according to census. Did you look in New York for John H Blair in 1840? Do you know if John H and Maria were married in New York? I did a quick search for marriage records in New York and didn't find any. But a quick search rarely comes up with much for me. Will you tell me where John H and Maria were in 1860 & 1870? Still Fairfax county? Who were their other children? I will see if I can help you figure out who the parents of John H might be. Author: carolchristine27 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.blair/3400.4.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There are some remarkable parallels here. My grandfather, Frank, died at about that time in Novato, CA. But, as far as I know he was born in San Francisco, to Lillian Post and Frank B. Blair who were both actors (stage /vaudeville). I have been told Lillian was French. She and her father came to San Francisco, around the horn from either France or New York???. Frank Jr. married Miriam Offenbach (Jewish, whose Father, Nathan, began as a tailor), they had 7 children. Beatrice, Leland, Gerald, Lillian, Ramona, Ray, and Paul(my own father). Miriam had 5 or 6 siblings who lived in the Bay Area (some near San Jose)... She was young when her parents were killed in a car accident, and could have been adopted into another Jewish family. Like I said , parallels, but only if you combine Frank SR., Frank Jr. and Miriam's life histories together. I do know Frank Jr. traveled the world with his mother, Lillian when she went on tour. Also, Gerald, their first (I, think) Child was born in 1906 a short while after the the 1906 earthquake. if any of this sounds familiar go to the Message Board for "Nathan and Ester Offenbach" http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.offenbach/6/mb.ashx Very interesting, Carol Blair mangohead27@gmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
